Chapter 23
Chapter 23: Ch. 23 Exposed
Breakfast that morning should have been warm and filled with laughter, but not this time.
Stanley, who was chewing his food, stopped moving and froze for a moment. The same happened to his wife, who fed the sweetest little thing, an angel-like creature.
The husband and wife glanced at their youngest daughter with a look demanding an explanation causing Harmonie to shrink in her seat.
How could the family’s atmosphere be so tense?
Let’s go back to a few minutes earlier.
Like the previous days, Loreine had been awake and patiently waiting for someone to come to her room. Meisya was the first to go to the little girl’s room to see if Lori was awake or not.
Meisya fell in love with this sweet girl who was especially easy to care for. Unlike her three children, who used to be naughty and unruly, this little Lori was lovely and did not create chaos at home.
.....
Coupled with two unique eye colors that make anyone unable to turn their attention to this little girl, anyone who sees her in person would be willing to be her protector.
Stanley and Meisya immediately fell in love with this child as soon as they saw her eyes and a very bright smile, like the sun, plus a melodious voice like the soothing sound of waves.
Harmonie only tells them that an acquaintance of Richard’s left their daughter with Richard because the bad guys are after Lori. Hearing this, Stanley immediately strengthens his cyber security defenses to make sure no one can track Lori in his house.
And this morning, they had breakfast together, and Meisya painstakingly fed Lori, who was still learning to eat by herself. Unfortunately, Harmonie forgot one thing. She failed to tell Lori not to mention Richard as her daddy.
When Lori saw a photo of her father with his family, cheerfully, without a doubt, Lori called her father.
“Why is dad’s picture here?”
“Dad? Whose dad?” Stanley asked curiously as he shoved his breakfast into his mouth.
“My handsome daddy,” came the endless cheerful answer while showing one of Richard’s photos hanging on the room’s walls.
And oddly enough, Lori was pointing to Richard’s photo instead of Raymond’s next to Richard’s.
Richard and Raymond were identical twins, but their nature and eyes glint differed. Only a person with extraordinary sensitivity could tell the difference between the two.
But Lori could tell the difference right away and pointed right at the photo of her father.
This amazed Harmonie, and she wanted to praise her niece’s superb gift if her parents didn’t look at her intently.
By now, the two of them had finished assuming. This child was so intelligent that it was impossible to call a native person ‘daddy’ if that person was not her father.
This child cannot be Raymond’s offspring, considering Raymond was already happily married to his wife in America and was expecting his first child.
Does that mean Lori is Richard’s daughter? Nonsense!
Richard never presented any girls to his parents. Whenever Meisya tried to pry about her eldest son’s ideal woman, Richard constantly changed the topic of their conversation.
Maybe Lori misunderstood and thought that Richard, who had saved her from criminals, was her father. They thought then.
“Are you perhaps my daddy’s papa and mama? Does that mean you guys are my grandparents?”
“Lori, honey. It seems you misunderstand something. We’re not your grandparents.” explained Meisya patiently as she wiped the traces of food stuck to the corner of Lori’s mouth.
“But Aunt Moni calls you papa mama. Doesn’t that mean Aunt Moni is your child?”
“Moni is indeed our daughter.”
“Then Daddy Richard is your son. Daddy Richard said Aunt Moni is his younger sister, so I have to listen to Aunt Moni’s words.”
That’s when Stanley let go of his spoon, which fell on his plate. Stanley and Meisya turned into statues, and there was no sign of life from them.
Stanley first came to his senses from his shock, then looked sternly at his youngest daughter. Finally, he realized what was different about his daughter when she came home last night with Kendrich and Melodie. His daughter had something to hide.
Meisya recovered from the shock and glanced at Harmonie, who was awkwardly taking her glass to drink.
“Moni, is there something you want to talk about?”
Harmonie gulped nervously when she heard Stanley say his question in a dangerous tone but still gave a friendly smile. This is precisely what is especially terrifying.
“There isn’t any?”
Stanley still stared at his daughter unblinkingly, giving his daughter a warning look.
“That... that... You should just ask Richard directly.”
“Grandma, is grandpa angry?”
Stanley gasped at the soft, sad voice across the dining table.
Meisya gave a faint smile while patting Lori’s back gently. Then Lori looked at Stanley, causing the older man to give a complicated look. Her pair of green-purple eyes started to tear up as she realized her grandfather didn’t seem to like her.
Seeing a pair of sad eyes from the boy made Stanley couldn’t bear it. In the end, he got up and went into his study to avoid making the child... or maybe his granddaughter... be afraid of him.
Stanley activated Audrey to discover where Richard found the girl and whether Lori was Richard’s daughter. If Richard had left the girl in this place, then there was a chance that Richard had already done a DNA test.
After all, this was the first time Richard had brought a child into his home under the pretext of protecting the child. Why would Richard put someone else’s child into his protection if not his own?
While waiting for Audrey to find his wanted information, Stanley called his son.
“Yeah, dad?”
“Richard Calvins, do you want me to kick you to Antarctica? Did I teach you to have a daughter out of wedlock, huh?”
“...”
Richard couldn’t answer his father’s question at all.
What happened? Why did his father find out so quickly? His sister couldn’t have told him so soon, right?
Meanwhile, Anxia, sitting next to him in Richard’s car, glanced at the man sarcastically.
So, her daughter was in NETHERLAND!?
If she had known, she would have gone there instead of falling into this man’s trap!
