Chapter 21: The Larger Survivor Base
Chapter 21
"Alright, that's settled then. Xu Shi, you take charge of him and explain all the rules clearly," said Gu Wanyin.
"Yes, boss!" Xu Shi immediately replied, "Leave it to me."
"Ding! Congratulations, host. Task completed. Rewards: Unlock rooms 301 and 302, upgrade rooms 209 and 210; unlock one staff dormitory room, two sets of staff uniforms; unlock unlimited quantities of five types of medicine."
The other two people looked at Fang Yang enviously.
Xu Shi had them carefully review the hotel rules, then processed their check-in, placing them in rooms 208 and 209.
These two were ordinary people without Crystal Cores, so they could only exchange some of their jewelry for just over 100 points.
At this moment, they were grateful they hadn't discarded their jewelry just because it seemed useless in the post-apocalyptic world.
After completing the check-in, Xu Shi taught them how to buy food, and instructed Fang Yang as well.
Fang Yang's staff dormitory had also appeared, right next to Xu Shi's room. The interior setup was identical, as were the staff uniforms: white shirts and black pants.
Fang Yang was so moved he burst into tears, sobbing and wiping his tears and snot on Xu Shi's clothes, which angered Xu Shi enough to go complain to Gu Wanyin.
...
Gu Wanyin looked around and noticed a new room had appeared next to the cafeteria, containing several cabinets.
In one of the cabinets, five types of medicine had already appeared.
Unlike typical pharmacies with numerous brands and varieties, the system-provided medicines were simply categorized. The ones currently available were cold medicine, fever reducer, diarrhea medicine, stomach pain reliever, and cough suppressant, each priced at six points per box.
Gu Wanyin thought that since the system was so miraculous, the medicine must be equally amazing and highly effective.
However, she didn't particularly want to verify this. No matter how miraculous the medicine, falling ill was never a good thing.
That evening, she dined in the cafeteria with Cola and Hamburger. Dong Yue, wanting to save points, only took a piece of bread back to her room to nibble on.
Gu Wanyin, on the other hand, got a serving of sweet and sour pork, a plate of boiled fish, a dish of garlic-flavored crown daisy greens, a bowl of corn and pork rib soup, and three portions of rice, enjoying the meal with Cola and Hamburger.
"This soup is incredibly delicious!" Cola exclaimed.
Hamburger, busy gnawing on a pork rib, couldn't respond.
Gu Wanyin also wanted to say that every dish from the food machine was unbelievably tasty, better than anything she'd eaten at any restaurant before her transmigration.
Although she had been poor in her previous life and hadn't dined at fancy restaurants, she felt certain that the food here was no worse than what high-end establishments would serve!
Just as they finished eating, she saw Zhuang Xiaoxia walk in, looking dejected.
"Xiaoxia, coming for dinner?" Gu Wanyin greeted her.
"No, I came to find you," Zhuang Xiaoxia said, sitting down beside her.
Cola and Hamburger, being considerate, put the empty dishes in the sink.
"What's wrong?" Gu Wanyin noticed she seemed troubled. "Is it because of what Wei Fenghua said to you today?"
"It's because of that scumbag!" Zhuang Xiaoxia lamented, "My first love... it's all ruined!"
She then poured out everything Wei Fenghua had said to Gu Wanyin.
Although Gu Wanyin was younger, Zhuang Xiaoxia found her impressive for running such a unique hotel. Being the owner, Gu Wanyin naturally became someone Zhuang Xiaoxia wanted to confide in.
Gu Wanyin also found the situation exasperating after hearing the story.
How could Wei Fenghua, being so handsome, be such a dog!
"Just ignore him," Gu Wanyin said. "He can't enter your room anyway, and if he dares to violate the hotel rules, we'll throw him straight into the volcano."
"I just can't believe that the first man I ever loved, the one I've been thinking about for so many years, could be like this," Zhuang Xiaoxia said weakly.
"It's normal. Who hasn't loved a few jerks when they were young?"
"Little sis boss, do you think I should tell Bai Shuwen about this?" Zhuang Xiaoxia asked hesitantly. "I don't want her to be deceived by Wei Fenghua too."
Gu Wanyin thought for a moment before replying, "I wouldn't recommend telling her, but ultimately, it's your decision."
She felt a connection with Zhuang Xiaoxia and was willing to chat more, but that didn't mean she wanted to forcibly interfere in others' personal affairs.
Mainly because they didn't really understand the situation between Bai Shuwen and Wei Fenghua.
What if it was a case of mutual consent?
If Zhuang Xiaoxia went to tell Bai Shuwen with good intentions, and Bai Shuwen not only didn't appreciate it but blamed her instead, it would just cause unnecessary trouble.
But these were just her speculations, so in the end, it had to be Zhuang Xiaoxia's decision. She wouldn't intervene.
"I'll think about it some more," Zhuang Xiaoxia sighed and left.
As night fell, the temperature plummeted.
According to Fu Siheng, who had just returned from outside, it must have dropped to around -20 to -30 degrees Celsius.
The temperature was likely to drop even further. The extreme cold weather was coming again in the next few days.
In this post-apocalyptic world, there were no longer distinct seasons. Temperature changes were unpredictable: sometimes it would suddenly become extremely cold, other times scorching hot. People were truly suffering.
Of course, inside the hotel, the temperature was always comfortably constant, free from these worries.
As for the air conditioner in the Main Room... well, that was just for show.
If Gu Wanyin wanted to wrap herself in blankets with the cool air on, she could certainly do so.
Fu Sishu, with his poor health, was badly affected by the cold. After returning from outside, he was coughing his lungs out.
"There's a room next to the cafeteria selling medicine, including cough suppressants. You might want to check it out," Gu Wanyin suggested.
Hearing this, Fu Siheng immediately went to buy medicine.
He had plenty of points and Crystal Cores, so to be safe, he bought a box of each type of medicine.
After taking the cough suppressant, Fu Sishu indeed felt much better, almost completely free from the urge to cough.
"This medicine really works well," Fu Sishu mused to himself in his room. "It's much more effective than many medicines I've taken before."
He then looked out the window.
Although the temperature inside the hotel was comfortable, he could faintly hear the howling cold wind outside, giving him a slight chill.
"In such cold weather, I wonder how Ruru is doing..."
...
City B, Haikang Survivor Base.
This was a relatively large base, home to high-level ability users and a small number of their family members. The minimum level for ability users here was four.
As for the highest, that would be the current leader of the base, Ye Gaofei, a level seven ability user.
At this moment, he was in his small villa, holding a glass of red wine, with music playing nearby and a steaming bowl of noodles in front of him.
Surprisingly, there was even an air conditioner in the room, currently running, making the interior as warm as spring.
Even powering a small light bulb required quite a few Crystal Cores, let alone an air conditioner.
So what Ye Gaofei was enjoying could be considered one of the highest luxuries in this post-apocalyptic world.
Just as he was about to pick up his chopsticks, one of his subordinates rushed in.
"Mr. Ye, someone outside is requesting to see you."
