Chapter 22
C22 – You Don’t Understand!
“The Head Master himself has arrived; he holds our Third Martial Club in high regard. We must not disappoint him.”
“The Third Master is on track to reach the Perfection Stage within a decade. When that happens, his prowess could rival that of the Head Master.”
“It’s no surprise the Head Master frequently visits our third club for tea; he’s been personally grooming the Third Master.”
The disciples of the Super Martial Club’s third branch whispered among themselves. As Qian Wenwei approached, they perked up, eager to showcase their skills.
“Head Master, welcome.”
Ji Tong approached with utmost respect, his usual hot-headedness tempered by Qian Wenwei’s presence, as he was careful not to overstep.
“Baldy Ji, what brings you here?”
Qian Wenwei expressed mild surprise upon encountering Ji Tong and his group.
“Head Master, there’s no need for you to intervene in this trivial matter. I can easily take care of this young upstart myself. I hadn’t anticipated your personal visit.”
“What?” Qian Wenwei paused, taken aback, wondering if he’d misheard.
Pei Yu stood calmly, hands clasped behind his back.
Ji Tong pressed on, “Head Master, weren’t you here for this youngster? I’m saying there’s no need for you to lift a finger—I can defeat him on my own.”
Qian Wenwei’s sense of unease grew as he listened, while the other two Masters exchanged puzzled glances.
They had just received an urgent directive from Qian Wenwei back at the club, instructing all senior members to accompany him to meet an esteemed visitor.
If the entire Super Martial Club was mobilizing for recruitment, the individual in question must be of exceptional status. They refrained from questioning Qian Wenwei further, aware only that the Head Master sought to enlist a Grandmaster.
Yet upon their arrival, they found Baldy Ji already present, with Qian Wenwei seemingly in the dark.
This left them bewildered.
Before Qian Wenwei could respond, Ji Tong burst into laughter, stepping up to Pei Yu. “You talk tough, kid. Now prepare to meet your end.”
“I’ll have you know, our Head Master is formidable.”
“Ji Tong, enough!”
Before Ji Tong could even finish his sentence, Qian Wenwei quickly stepped in, his face a picture of alarm, and yanked him back.
Without hesitation, Qian Wenwei bowed deeply to Pei Yu, apologizing, “Mr. Pei, I’m terribly sorry for not having properly disciplined my student. Please, I ask for your understanding!”
Pei Yu was a Grandmaster who had perfected his skeletal refinement by the age of twenty. Baldy Ji had nearly sabotaged a significant endeavor of his.
He had assumed Baldy Ji was there to extend an invitation to Pei Yu and was taken aback by the turn of events.
The crowd was bewildered by the unfolding drama, with Ji Tong especially perplexed.
Qian Wenwei wasted no time and delivered a sharp slap to Ji Tong.
Spinning around, his face flushed with anger, he rebuked, “How dare you show such disrespect to Mr. Pei? Do you realize who he is? He’s a distinguished guest of mine.”
Hearing this, Ji Tong and the others felt a shiver of fear. Their expressions were those of people confronted by a formidable foe.
“Is he the new recruit the Head Master was talking about?”
“He’s so young. Who is he? What capabilities does he have? Can he truly be a Grandmaster?”
“It seems too far-fetched! Somewhat unrealistic!”
A buzz of conversation erupted among the Masters and several formidable figures. They hadn’t anticipated that the esteemed guest the Head Master had referred to would be the youthful Pei Yu.
The Super Martial Club had mobilized en masse for such a young fellow, prompting some to wonder if the Head Master was perhaps making a mountain out of a molehill.
