Chapter 57 The Decision
Chapter 57 The Decision
As Michael waited for the salesperson and the car technician to prepare the pickup truck for a test drive, he felt the phone buzz in his pocket as he waited. Pulling it out, he saw "Mom" flashing on the screen. He quickly pressed "answer."
"Hey, Mom, what's up?"
"Michael, where have you been? You left without saying anything. You know I worry," Myra's voice came through, a mix of concern and frustration evident.
"Ah, Mom, it's nothing to worry about. I'm just out handling some... personal stuff," Michael hedged, not ready to reveal his current undertaking.
"Personal stuff? Michael, you know I just want to make sure you're safe. It would help if you at least told me where you're going."
"I know, Mom, and I appreciate it. But this is something I need to keep under wraps for now. I promise I'll explain everything once it's all done," Michael reassured her, hoping to ease her worries without giving away his plans.
Myra sighed on the other end, her tone softening. "Alright, Michael. Just... be safe, okay? And don't forget to eat something."
"Will do, Mom. I'll be home later and tell you all about it. Bye for now," Michael said, ending the call before turning his attention back to the dealership—but his phone rang again. "Will do, Mom. I'll be home later and tell you all about it. Bye for now," Michael said, ending the call before turning his attention back to the dealership—but his phone rang again. Michael glanced at the name of the caller and this time, it wasn't his mother, it was Bridget.
He pressed the answer icon.
"Hey, Bridget. What's up?" Michael greeted her.
"I was just checking in to see if you've managed to handle all the paperwork for starting your business," Bridget inquired, her tone direct and to the point.
"Yeah, I was actually at the DTI office earlier today but there were a lot of things needed to prepare, it's comprehensive and it will be difficult to explain to you over the phone so how about I send you an email detailing everything? That way, you can see exactly what I've done and what's left to do," Michael suggested, trying to manage the complexity of the situation efficiently.
"That sounds like a good idea," Bridget replied, her voice indicating she understood the necessity for detail. "Just make sure to include any deadlines or important dates I need to be aware of."
"Great. Goodbye." Bridget hung up the phone, and just as Michael was about to stow his phone in his pocket, it vibrated again, this time it was Antoinette. Michael answered the phone.
"Good morning Mrs. Estolas, how can I help you?" Michael said formally. "Well, I just want to get an update on your business registration and your application for patent filing," Antoinette asked.
"It's being processed at the moment," Michael answered and added. "I don't have the exact timeline yet, but I'll make sure to keep you updated as soon as I have more information."
"That sounds good, Michael. Just ensure you keep us in the loop. We're keen on seeing how things progress, especially with the patent application. It's crucial for our investment planning," Antoinette explained.
"Understood, Mrs. Estolas. I appreciate your patience and support. I'm doing everything I can to expedite the process," Michael reassured her.
"Excellent. We have high hopes for this venture, Michael. And remember, if you need any assistance or run into any hurdles, don't hesitate to reach out," she offered before ending the call with a polite goodbye.
Michael pocketed his phone, hoping that no one would call again, at least for a while, so he could focus on the task at hand. Luckily, no one called. Just then, Lev approached, signaling that the RAM 1500 TRX was ready for the test drive.
"All set, Michael. The TRX is waiting for you," he announced, gesturing towards the gleaming vehicle parked outside.
"Thanks, Lev. I'm looking forward to seeing what it can do," Michael responded, his earlier conversations momentarily set aside as he focused on the immediate experience ahead. The prospect of test-driving the truck was a welcome distraction from the pressures of business setup and patent filings.
As Michael and Lev approached the gleaming RAM 1500 TRX, Lev began speaking.
"You'll notice right away that the TRX is no ordinary truck," he said, opening the driver's door for Michael.
Michael, sliding into the driver's seat, felt the premium materials and noted the spacious cabin. "Feels more like a luxury SUV in here than a truck," he remarked, running his hands over the leather-wrapped steering wheel.
Lev, leaning on the open door, nodded. "Exactly. And that's before we even talk about the tech features. The infotainment system is top-notch. You've got a 12-inch touchscreen with navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and more. Plus, there are safety features like blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, and lane-keeping assist."
Lev continued, "And for the off-road enthusiasts, it's equipped with a high-performance suspension system, ensuring that it can handle pretty much any terrain you throw at it."
"Okay…how do I turn on the engine? Is it okay just to start the engine by myself before the driver takes over?" Michael asked.
"It's simple really, all you have to do is press the brake firmly and then push the start button right here," Lev pointed, showing Michael the ignition button. "And don't worry, our dealership driver will handle the driving during the test drive since you mentioned you don't have a license yet. It's all about getting you familiar with the feel and performance of the TRX, even from the passenger seat."
Michael nodded, pressing the button as instructed. The engine roared to life, its powerful sound filling the cabin.
"Impressive," Michael couldn't help but comment as he felt the vibration of the engine through the seat.
Yes, it's quite the machine," Lev agreed, closing the door once Michael was comfortable. "Our driver, Eric, will be with you for the test drive. He's very experienced with the TRX and can show you its full potential."
A moment later, Eric, a professional-looking driver wearing the dealership's uniform, approached the truck. Lev introduced him to Michael. "Eric, this is Michael. He's interested in the TRX."
"Pleased to meet you, Michael. Ready to see what the TRX can do?" Eric asked with a smile, getting into the driver's side.
"Definitely," Michael replied, as he stepped out of the driver's seat and then walked around to the passenger side. Once settled, Eric started the truck again, and they began to ease out of the dealership parking lot onto the main road.
As they merged into traffic, Eric began to explain more about the vehicle's features. "As you can feel, the TRX offers an exceptionally smooth ride for a pickup, thanks to its advanced suspension system. It's designed to absorb bumps and shocks, providing a comfortable experience even on rough terrains."
Michael nodded his attention split between Eric's explanations and the reactions of pedestrians and other drivers as they passed by. It was hard not to notice the admiring glances and occasional pointing directed at the muscular build and imposing presence of the RAM 1500 TRX. "Seems like it turns quite a few heads," Michael remarked a hint of pride in his voice.
Eric chuckled, "Oh, it definitely does. The TRX has a way of making a statement wherever it goes. Whether it's the roar of the engine or the distinctive design, it commands attention…more than the Ford Raptor."
As they continued the drive, Eric demonstrated the truck's agility and power, occasionally pointing out the ease with which it navigated through traffic and the responsive acceleration. "And here, if you look at the dashboard, you can see how the infotainment system is laid out. Very intuitive and user-friendly, with all your essentials within easy reach," Eric said, highlighting the screen's features without taking his eyes off the road.
Michael was impressed not just by the truck's performance but also by the level of thought that had gone into every aspect of its design. The luxury and technology packaged within the rugged exterior of the TRX far exceeded his expectations. n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
As the test drive neared its end, and they started heading back to the dealership, Michael's decision was clear. "I'm going to get this car and I am going to pay it now before anyone gets it," Michael said firmly. "Good choice sir!" Lev smiled.
