Dead Man Walking: Living By Day, Dead By Night

Chapter 119: Breaking Through An Encirclement

Knowing that they were in danger of being overrun by the enemy that surrounded them, Zane immediately pulled out his knife and slit his wrist, causing his blood to spill down his forearm, blood which he then manipulated into the form of spikes which flew directly at the leapers, piercing through their skulls before they could even react.

At the same time, Elena cast her ability freezing time on the spot, making sure that no other undead got close to their location. While Olivia cast an area of effect spell. Due to her reaching Tier II of Electric Discharge, she had far better control over her skill, allowing her to spread it across much larger areas.

The attack instantly fried the dozens of Walkers who surrounded them, turning them to nothing but ash, their only remains being the blood crystals that fell to the ground where their bodies had just stood. And though they had taken out many of the undead in a single moment, alleviating the pressure they felt.

There were still around a Dozen or two undead left remaining in the vicinity. This included an abomination, and several Leapers who Zane was focusing his efforts on to eliminate. Worse yet, Elena's skill was starting to wear off, and the cooldowns which she and Olivia had were long enough to put their party at a disadvantage.

Angelica was virtually useless, as she only had the ability to heal, and was still not really trained in combat. All she could do was sit by and wait for others to get hurt. As for Madison, she was overwhelmed by fear at the sight of the small undead army that surrounded them.

She had already had a panic attack earlier in the day when she came across small groups of walkers within the neighborhood, and was ultimately forced out of the situation by a violent Zane who slapped the shit out of her and told her this was the world now.

But this many Undead, it was truly a harrowing sight, and the idea that the world she had known was well and truly gone was finally starting to settle into Madison's mind. Though she had the ability to use a rifle, one which she was barely capable of operating, her fear overwhelmed her as she back up against the door of the mansion which they had just finished clearing out moments before.

Zane was not focused on the girl at the moment, or her panicked state, and was instead sending more blood spikes at the leapers, who nimbly avoided them while leaping mid air.

Or so they thought, but Zane controlled the blood spikes, which were almost crystalized like a blood crystal, while they flew in the air, redirecting them into the back of the leapers skulls who, if not for this sudden disruption, would have landed on Olivia and Elena.

Immediately after killing the leapers, Zane snapped at Madison, turning to face her as he grabbed hold of her collar and dragged her up from her own crying position.

"Get you shit together! We need your protection!"

Zane was visibly angry. If his blood spikes had been just a slight bit slower, then Elena and Olivia could have been harmed. Something that wouldn't have happened if Madison had her shit together and cast her skill on them.

But before Zane could properly pull Madison out of her overwhelmed state, Elena spoke to Zane with a worried tone in her voice.

"Zane, we've got trouble! The abomination is on the move, and there's two of them now!"

Knowing that they would be easily run over by the Abominations if two of them came after them, Zane did not hesitate to pick Madison up and toss her over his shoulder, as he ran off in the opposite direction, retreating through a gap that existed within the undead army's formation, which was a result of Olivia's attacks.

"We need to buy some time! Follow me!"

Olivia and Elena did not hesitate, dragging Angelica with them as they followed after Zane, who was literally carrying the weakest link in their team. All the while, the abominations chased after them, along with the remaining dozen or so walkers.

For whatever reason, they seemed mad in their pursuit of Zane and the others, almost as if their movements were being coordinated to entrap them. Which though Zane and the girls didn't realize it, they were indeed being done so by Eliza, who watched from afar with a look of complete and utter disgust on her face.

After all, the moment the young horde king saw Zane's powers, she realized what he was, and immediately cursed beneath her breath. Understanding now why Bart had tasked her with capturing Zane and not killing him.

"You fucking bastard! You tricked me into hunting down a rival to your throne! You know the rules as well as I do! When Lilith hears that you're trying to kill one of our brothers and are using me as your proxy, you're finished, Bart!"

Knowing that she was now facing another Horde King, albeit one who had chosen to hide among the living for some strange reason.

Eliza was far more cautious of mindlessly sending her servants to attack Zane, after all, if he really was a Horde King, like she believed him to be, and just so happened to be more powerful than she was, then Zane could steal her forces from beneath her command and use them against her.

With this in mind, Eliza sent only those forces she had the most control over after Zane, which were, of course, the handful of abominations beneath her command. Hoping that Zane's powers were not enough to deal with them all simultaneously.

But of course, by focusing all of her attention on Zane, Eliza had completely forgotten that Zane had several hyper competent party members by his side, and it was only a matter of time before their cooldowns were completed.

Meaning it was quite literally a race against time right now. Which begged the question... Could Zane and the girls hold out long enough to use their skills a second time, and in doing so, eliminate the most elite forces beneath Eliza's command? Or would they succumb to the pressure and find their lives cut short?
