Chapter 23
C23 – In the Small Forest
“This is a school. Fighting here would tarnish my reputation. How about we find another spot?” Qi Ning suggested to Pei Liang.
Pei Liang was momentarily taken aback, not expecting Qi Ning to propose such a thing. He was acutely aware of the repercussions that would follow a brawl at the school’s entrance. His plan had always been to lure Qi Ning to a secluded area and give him a thrashing. He certainly didn’t have the audacity to drag Qi Ning away right at the school gates. Despite his rough exterior, Pei Liang was no fool. If he were to take Qi Ning away in full view of the crowd, it would look like a kidnapping. That would spell trouble not just for Pei Liang but potentially for Xu Linshan as well.
“Are you asking for trouble?” Pang Yuejuan snapped at Qi Ning.
Qi Ning remained nonchalant. “If you’re scared, you could always go home.”
“I’m not scared,” Pang Yuejuan retorted with a defiant look.
Qi Ning could only shake his head at Pang Yuejuan’s demeanor. A short distance from Sigu No. 1 Middle School lay an expansive forest. Its proximity to the school made it a popular spot for dates and fights alike. The frequent brawls had trampled a clearing in the midst of the underbrush. Qi Ning positioned himself in the center of this clearing, motioning for Pang Yuejuan to stay behind him.
“You’re really asking for it,” Pei Liang said, eyeing Qi Ning’s calm demeanor with a cold laugh. “Yesterday, you only won because I’ve been dealing with a stomachache. Today, I’m back in top form. The events of yesterday won’t be repeated.”
Even now, Pei Liang was making excuses. “Are you truly prepared?” Qi Ning asked with a smile.
Pei Liang nodded, his expression fierce. “I’m ready to give you a beating, and after that, I plan to spend the night with the little miss behind you!” He declared.
No sooner had the words left his mouth than Qi Ning charged towards him.
”Perfect timing!” Pei Liang bellowed, seizing the steel pipe in his grasp and swinging it down toward Qi Ning’s head.
Qi Ning, having mastered his martial arts skills, had significantly honed his reflexes.
As the steel pipe neared his skull, Qi Ning effortlessly raised his hand and caught it mid-swing.
Pei Liang, a veteran in brawls, had never before been countered like this.
Caught off guard, Pei Liang could only watch as Qi Ning’s fist rapidly approached his face.
Pei Liang was knocked back before his gang could even blink, stirring up a cloud of dust upon hitting the ground.
Qi Ning had barely exerted any force; had he used more, Pei Liang’s fate would have been far grimmer.
One of Pei Liang’s henchmen was the first to snap out of it, charging at Qi Ning with a ferocious yell.
The rest of the crew quickly followed suit, converging on Qi Ning.
Turning to the visibly scared Pang Yuejuan, Qi Ning reassured her, “Don’t worry. They’re no challenge for me!”
With those words, Qi Ning’s right foot shot out like lightning, targeting the first of the underlings who had lunged at him.
