Chapter 36 Amelia Proposition
[Samuel's perspective]
When I first learned about Uncle George and Aunt Amelia; i didn't mind much. Everyone casually mentioned about them in conversation, but Arthur told me about their occupation and other details which made me surprised. Hobbit and its successor were huge hits in the entertainment industry, often regarded as best trilogy for book adaptation. I had thought about the future, but I had to put it on hold until I secured proper channels in the industry, but now it seemed feasible.
I realized the it would be better if I finished the book early. My skills have improved well and I could fill my inventory and give it to Uncle Thomas. I have been practicing my skills to improve my title but I will need guidance for Acting and Singing. I had a ton of reference, but I will need some experts to guide me further to develop my own style.
Oscar came in while I was planning the future, to inform me that Aunt Amelia wanted to talk to me in the garden. I obliged and followed him.
I went to the garden deck to find my parents and Gradpa Kenneth sitting along with Amelia. They were casually talking as I entered and said--
" Good morning everyone. Aunt I heard that you wanted to discuss something." I said.
" Ah, yes. Samuel sit down. I want to discuss a matter not just with you but I will have to talk to your parents too that's why I called all of them here. " She said.
I sat down. I was confused; we had already discussed and talked a lot for several days now. She never mentioned anything important; mostly about her work and the some interesting stories about the industry.
" Since all are present here, I will say it outright without dilly-dallying. I want to cast Samuel as a child actor. I think he will do great in the industry. He has great spirit and with little bit of work he could become an excellent actor. " She said seriously.
I was taken aback by the sudden proposition. I have thought about joining but never thought the opportunity would come so soon. Everyone else was also surprised.
" Sister, I think it is too soon to decide such things and he had to rest for few more months to recover form his surgeries. " Laura said.
" Yes, he is just a child. I cann't allow it. He have to start schooling too; study is important. " Robert added.
" I will not deny outright but I agree with Robert and Laura on this matter. " Kenneth added.
Amelia had already anticipated this reaction, but she had to gauge Samuel's feelings about this matter. If he agreed the things would go much smoothly. They all turned toward me and stared, waiting for my answer.
I thought about it; becoming an actor so young could definitely affect me negatively, but I know myself better than anyone, if it is a matter of straying off the path or doing something bad; I honestly don't think I am capable of it. I always pride myself on receiving teachings from the best elders out of both worlds, whether it's my parents or elders here in this reality or Director and seniors from my original one.
I could avoid constant schooling to focus on other things and properly utilize my knowledge. There were many opportunities just waiting for me in near future. I could also establish myself early in the industry. I weighed the pros and cons when the long-sleeping Apollo interjected--
" Young master, I think you should take this oppurtunity with system's help it will not be hard. Entertainment industry is vast and you have lots of material just lying out here. You should capatalise early and effectively "
I nodded to his suggestions. Studying was the easy thing for me. I could assimilate the whole subjects in mere minutes, specially high school material. I could do distant schooling to free up sometime and get the relevant certificates; two birds with one stone.
" I will do it Aunt Amelia. But why are you bringing it abruptly? " I inquired.
Seeing me agree, everyone panicked except for Aunt, who smiled slightly.
" Sami, think about it carefully. Don't rush into such things. It's not so easy to be an actor; you have constant pressure and a public eye scutinizing your every move. I think it is too early. " Mother said worryingly.
" Yes, Samuel listen to your mother and you have not recovered yet. " Robert added.
I interjected and said, " Mother, Father, I know you worry about me and want to protect me but please trust me again. I can take distant schooling and attend whenever I am free. I can promise that my grades will not fall much. As for my recovery I am feeling better than ever and if something happens Aunt will be there for me. You could also let uncle David and others to protect me."
" Sigh, Robert, Laura, we should let him do as he wish. We should trust him when he is this serious. " Gradpa Kenneth supported my decision.
We argued back and forth, placing our concerns and advantages, and in the end I could convince them slightly, at least they agreed to consider the possibility with certain conditions. First, being constant communication and secondly, to get a checkup with Dr. Michael to confirm the progress of healing. Aunt was silent throughout all this, waiting for her opportunity.
" Now, that everyone is somewhat on the same page, I will explain further. Some days ago, Warne Bros production team greenlit to start pre-production for a new franchise. It is in early development, but everything is set. They want to adapt the Harry Potter series and are looking for children to play parts in the series.
They want to cast people who have British and Irish accents to bring originality to the films. We don't know much more, but it has a planned release for 2001. It will be hard for Samuel, who has no acting skills but I am sure he could get some side roles to start with. After the planned party, Samuel could start learning, and from what I have seen so far, He will surely succeed in learning some of it.
We can't expect much with how the industry is all based on connections. You all emphasized on keeping his identity a secret, which only backfires in this situation."
" It is true that Samuel should not take much spotlight until he grows up, but we will introduce him at the party in the coming weeks. But you should not underestimate the power of our family children. At least we can provide fair treatment for my grandson in my company. The matter regarding the roles will be based on his ability. "
" Your company? " Amelia exclaimed.
