Chapter 176 Preparations For The Zombie Virus
When everyone saw the woman on the video, they were all surprised.
Arlan paused the video when the woman's face was visible. They noticed that her skin was pale white and there were grotesque purple spots that made her look terrifying.
"As you can see in the video, this woman is the first zombie we discovered. This happened in the capital of Pakistan. The government believed that she had some mental illness so they locked her up in a mental institution. As for the victim of her attack, he is currently staying in a hospital." Arlan said as he scanned everyone's expression.
The people inside the conference room revealed different kinds of emotions. Some were still skeptical, while others started to believe his words.
"I know that this is very hard to believe, but the evidence is already in front of you. If I didn't know about this virus beforehand, why would I sell all my billion-dollar assets and company shares?" Arlan said in a serious voice.
"Mr. Roa, how did you know about this zombie virus? It's like you're already aware of it from the start." Rex De Guzman asked while looking at Arlan.
The others turned their gazes at Arlan. They were also wondering the same thing. How did he know about the virus when the entire world wasn't even aware of it?
Arlan leaned on his chair and pondered deeply. He was hesitating whether he should tell them about the true source of the virus or not. "Someone under me is an expert hacker. While she was doing her routine check on the global situation, she discovered the presence of a hidden civilization. You heard it right. Other than us humans, there is another civilization that shares our world. They are responsible for spreading this zombie virus. I don't know their goal for doing this, but based on their actions, we can say that they are hostile towards us."
"A hidden civilization?! Do you have proof of this?" Laurence Finn and the others were stunned by his words.
Arlan shook his head. "I don't have any evidence to show you that could prove their existence. This hidden civilization managed to hide from us for many years so there is a high possibility that they have some advanced knowledge that is no weaker than what we humans have developed."
Everyone's expression became serious all of a sudden. The presence of a hostile hidden civilization was like a sword of Damocles.
"Let's not think about them for now. We have to contain the zombie virus before it is too late. As of the moment, we only discovered an infected person in Pakistan. We can still warn the other nations about the virus. Hopefully, they will listen to us." Arlan said. He then turned his gaze to Laurence and Morgan. Both old men were legendary figures in the business world. He wanted to make use of their reputation to spread awareness about the dangers of the zombie virus. "Mr. Finn, Mr. Stan, I hope you can help me relay this message to the global leaders. You two are more well-connected than us so I'll leave this matter in your hands."
Laurence and Morgan glanced at each other. They agreed to stay in Last City because Arlan promised them numerous benefits. It turns out that this was his real motive. "We will try our best, Mr. Roa." They nodded solemnly.
"I will also offer my assistance." Peter Bacari knew that this was a precarious situation so he had to support them.
"Great! Everyone, please spread this news to the government. We can also slowly inform the public about this through rumors and social media to make them more prepared." Arlan didn't want to see a ruined world like the image he saw on the first page of the book, Zombie Dictionary.
The people inside the conference room immediately called the important people in their contacts and informed them about the matter. They also sent the video that Arlan showed them.
Meanwhile, Lieutenant General Rivera walked towards Arlan and said to him. "Mr. Roa, we still have time to evacuate more people. I have an army stationed in Metro Manila. We can mobilize them to assist in the evacuation."
Arlan furrowed his eyebrows. Even if the army was mobilized at this point, they still couldn't save everyone. Last City was almost fully occupied and the underground shelter in Catanduanes couldn't hold a lot of people.
Looking at the general's face, Arlan fell into a dilemma. "Alright, but we have to prioritize saving the people who can help us destroy this zombie virus." He replied.
The commanding general's expression hardened. "Mr. Roa, what about the ordinary citizens? We can't leave them behind!" His voice was a pitch louder, attracting everyone's attention.
Khalon walked towards them, but Arlan stopped him. He gazed at the commanding general and replied in a cold voice. "General, I understand your concern for the safety of the people, but we don't have enough resources to accommodate millions of people. Last City can only accommodate half a million people and the shelter we have in Catanduanes can only hold twenty thousand. If we go beyond that, the lives of our people will be affected. We will have less to eat. We won't be able to drink clean water and our energy consumption will increase. If you really want to save them, we can pressure the government into making a community that can hold millions of civilians. I believe they would positively consider this if they learned about the virus. I will send the De Guzman Family to help you persuade the government."
Lieutenant General Rivera nodded at him gratefully. "I apologize for my rudeness, Mr. Roa. I will make preparations now. Please excuse me." He bowed before he left the conference room.
Arlan glanced at Rex De Guzman and said. "Mr. De Guzman, please support the commanding general in his task. With your presence, I believe those stubborn government officials will consider this carefully."
Rex nodded his head. "I understand. Leave it to me."
