Chapter 219 The Sea Monster and the Progress of the Construction Project
Chapter 219 The Sea Monster and the Progress of the Construction Project
Two days later, the mining of raw materials on the ocean floor became a lot easier with the presence of three additional navy ships and 1000 navy personnel. The number of miners also increased.
Mining raw materials on the ocean floor was very dangerous, but the salary was high so many people still applied for the job.
At this moment, the mining team was extracting the mineral deposits. Four navy ships guarded them, prepared to take action if something unexpected happened.
"It looks like the sea beasts are intimidated by the navy ships."
"We have nothing to worry about then."
The mining team chatted between themselves. Compared to the old heads, the new workers were still feeling nervous. They had heard some nasty rumors about the evolved sea creatures. Some said that they saw a shark bigger than a ship, while others also mentioned about a humongous octopus that was as tall as buildings! Just the thought of it made them anxious.
While the mining team was extracting mineral deposits on the ocean floor, the navy personnel observed their radar.
Among the 1000 navy personnel sent by Rear Admiral Fuliand, there was an officer with the rank of a Lieutenant. He was assigned as the commander of this guard team and his main task was to ensure the safety of the mining team.
"Did you guys discover anything strange?" Lieutenant Pershing asked in a stern voice.
The personnel responsible for looking at the radars shook their heads. "There's nothing out of the ordinary, sir." They answered.
Lieutenant Pershing didn't say anything. He didn't believe that the evolved creatures wouldn't notice the commotion caused by the mining team. "Keep a close watch on our radars and inform me immediately if you discover something."
"Yes, sir!"
An hour passed and nothing happened. The mining team managed to extract a sizable amount of mineral deposits. The mining equipment they had was a product from the future and it was capable of faster mineral extraction. The team only needed a few hours to fill their storage.
Just when everyone thought that everything would go well, a red dot was spotted in one of the navy's radars. From its speedy blinking, the personnel could already tell how fast this creature was.
"Sir, there is an unknown creature spotted on our radar! What do you want us to do?"
Lieutenant Pershing stared at the radar and the blinking red dot as he replied. "Destroy it!"
"Yes, sir!"
The battleships fired their torpedoes at the incoming creature
The sudden movement from the battleships scared the mining team.
"The navy is attacking! The sea beasts are here!" A new worker shouted in panic.
Pa!
One of the older workers slapped his head and scolded him. "Calm the f*ck down! The Navy is here to protect us! You don't need to be alarmed! It's their job to eliminate the threat! We only need to extract the mineral deposits! Do you understand?!"
The new worker glanced at everyone and he found out that the older workers seemed to be relaxed. He realized that it might be a normal occurrence for them when he saw their calm expression. Only the newbies were shaking in fear.
"The navy won't let anything happen to us. From what I heard, they sent a lieutenant to lead the guarding team and the ships they brought are also stronger than the ones protecting us before."
While the mining team was calming the newbies, the sea creature was hit by the torpedoes. It let out a wail that reverberated in the ocean.
The navy had finally gotten a closer look at the creature. It was a giant jellyfish with a transparent body. The upper half of its body was revealed, while the other half remained submerged in the ocean. Just its upper body alone had reached a height of over a hundred meters!
"Kill it!" Lieutenant Pershing commanded in a cold voice.
"Yes, sir!"
Boom! Boom! Boom!
This time, the navy used their most powerful weapons to shoot the giant creature. The missiles landed on its body, causing multiple violent explosions.
The giant beast wailed in pain as it fiercely slapped the seawater using its long tentacles. Its fierce actions created massive waves, but they did no damage to the sturdy battleships.
A huge portion of the giant jellyfish was blasted into smithereens. It still managed to emit another wailing sound before its mangled body sank onto the ocean floor.
"Target eliminated!"
"Good job!" Lieutenant Pershing wasn't stingy with his praise.
The emergence of the humongous jellyfish scared the mining team. They were like tiny insects compared to it. They thought that it would be their end, but when they saw the battleships destroying its colossal figure, they excitedly cheered.
After the death of this massive sea monster, a few more sea beasts attacked them, but they weren't a threat to the navy and were quickly taken down.
The mining team soon managed to fill their storage with mineral deposits and they returned to Last City under the protection of the navy.
Arlan was notified about their successful mission. "Great! It seems like Rear Admiral Fuliand has nurtured some good naval officers. The mining team also did great in their job." He was very satisfied with today's performance.
"Boss, the navy brought in the corpses of the sea beasts they killed." Krizia said while showing Arlan a photo of the colossal jellyfish.
Arlan frowned when he saw the large jellyfish. The other sea monster looked tiny compared to it. He didn't expect that the growth speed of the sea creatures would be even faster than the ones on the surface. This made him feel alarmed. "Tell them to send the corpses to the laboratory and please convey my thanks to the lieutenant." He uttered.
"Yes, boss." Krizia nodded her head.
Suddenly, Arlan thought of an idea. "Also, tell the researchers to study the remains of the sea beasts and see if it's possible for us to consume them safely." Although Last City had many food processing facilities, they wouldn't be able to provide enough food for the civilians once the shelter and the city were fully occupied. Not to mention that a new residential area was being built in Catanduanes.
Krizia was taken aback by his idea, but she soon nodded her head. If the sea monster were edible, the bases would have new sources of food. "I will let them know, boss."
"You may leave now. I still have to check the progress of the construction project in Catanduanes." Arlan stood up from his seat and stared at his reflection in the mirror.
"Alright, boss. Take care." Krizia bowed to him and left the office.
After arranging his hair and clothes, Arlan went to the construction site in Catanduanes.
He didn't inform anyone about his visit so the sudden arrival of a flying car stunned the workers.
"Who is that?"
"I don't know. Is it a military official?"
"Only a few powerful people in the base owns a flying car. I wonder who is inside…"
The flying car landed at the designated landing zone. This place was restricted and only a few important personnel could enter the premises. The civilians could only stand behind the metal railings while looking at the flying car. The parking zone was too far so they couldn't clearly see who stepped out of the vehicle.
When the parking zone personnel saw Arlan coming out of the car, they were stunned. They quickly walked towards him and bowed their heads. "Greetings, boss!"
Arlan smiled and waved his hand. "Where is Terrence and Karl?" He asked.
Rex De Guzman was the head of this construction project, but he was now busy dealing with official matters so Terrence Montefalco took over for him. It should have been Luke Montefalco, but he was also busy in the city handling some other issues.
"Sir Terrence is in his office. We will take you there!" The workers answered.
"Alright. Lead the way." Arlan nodded.
Meanwhile, the civilians were shocked when they saw the parking zone personnel bowing at the person who stepped out of the vehicle.
"It's the boss! The boss is here!"
"Oh sht! Back to work guys!"
Most of the civilians here were construction workers. When they realized that the person who arrived was Arlan, they immediately went back to work. Arlan was the most respected person in the base, but they also feared him.
Arlan was unaware of this. He just followed the workers towards Terrence's office. Soon, they arrived in front of a small office.
Both Terrence and Karl were already made aware of his arrival so they waited for him in front of the office. Upon his arrival, the two lightly bowed their heads.
"Boss!"
"There's no need to be formal. I came here to check on the progress of the construction. I've seen the situation from above, but tell me the details." Arlan patted their shoulders.
Hearing this, Terrence nodded his head. "Alright. Let's talk inside my office."
