Inside The Black Mist

Chapter 67 - Dark Shadows Behind

Activating the night vision mode of the tactical electronic eye, Tianyang adjusted the distance, and the blurry images in the distance were immediately brought closer and became clearer.

The soldier pointed towards the remains of a car on the highway, and behind the frame of the car, a figure suddenly jumped down.

It was a Mad Dog!

The abominable creature with a human face crouched low on the car, peering in the direction of the camp.

More Mad Dogs appeared on the highway, bypassing the cars and obstacles and spitting out crimson tongues covered in flesh spikes. Like the work of a god of nightmares, these humanoid creatures with human features and reptilian characteristics began to run.

"What's happening?"

Hearing the alarm, Han Shu jumped out of the car and ran in the direction of the alert.

Putting down a telescope, Lao Xu looked nervous. "It's a pack of dogs, about a hundred in number, charging towards our camp."

Suddenly, a black-red beam shot out from the darkness of the road, hitting the chest of a nearby soldier. The soldier didn't even realize it at first. After a moment, he lowered his head, then covered his chest, gushing with blood.

He kneeled, reaching out towards Han Shu, probably trying to call for help. However, blood poured out of his mouth within his helmet.

Han Shu cursed, "Full alert, we have a shooter! Mysterious Marksmen!"

Tianyang was already lying on the ground, unfolding the bipod of his Assault Rifle, and placing the gun on the ground. His tactical electronic eye searched for the source of the beams, and then he saw an Enigmatic Marksman. The creature with a goat-like face stood on top of a car, aiming its bone-barreled gun toward the camp and continuing firing.

Aiming at the eye on the alien gun, Tianyang adjusted the color, and a deep blue beam cut through the darkness of the road, shattering the Mysterious Marksman's Will Cage.

More black-red beams were shooting towards the camp.

Cang Du hid behind the armored vehicle, aiming the gun at the enemies in the darkness, firing and shouting, "Prioritize eliminating those marksmen with heavy artillery, or we'll be in big trouble!"

The soldier inside the tank operated the Star Element cannon mounted on the vehicle, pointing it at the enemy's firepower point. After the humming sound of charging, a blue energy projectile soared through the air, exploding into a blue fireball on the stronghold of the dark creatures.

Meanwhile, the pack of Mad Dogs initiated a charge.

Nearly a hundred Mad Dogs moved agilely on all fours, rapidly closing the distance with the camp.

Just at this moment, the camp suddenly erupted with an immense aura. Following that, a shower of arrows ascended into the sky, only to shake off towards the ground below, aiming at the charging pack of Mad Dogs.

Instantly, the frontline of the Mad Dogs collapsed; those blue arrows, upon hitting the monsters, explosively created massive wounds even without shattering their Will Cages.

Even if the Will Cages of the Mad Dogs weren't shattered, the explosions still sent blood and flesh flying, rendering them momentarily unable to move.

After this barrage of arrows, a layer of Star Element Barrier appeared around Tianyang.

Beside him, Lao Xu whispered, "This is the Captain's ability, but don't expect it to be very sturdy. At most, it can withstand a few shots from those Mysterious Marksmen."

Lao Xu had already drawn his sword, his Star Element aura visible on the surface. He, along with Cang Du, then advanced, knocking down the scattered Mad Dogs.

As the two Ascenders of the War God class, their wrists began to radiate dazzling light, and when their long swords were swung, a dull sonic boom was produced.

No Mad Dog could reach them!

As for Han Shu, the luminous armor outlined on his body flickered. Then a star-made long spear appeared in his hand.

Standing between Lao Xu and Cang Du, he either swept or thrust with the long spear, slaughtering all the Mad Dogs that rushed towards them.

Under the suppression of the heavy artillery on the two armored vehicles, the Mysterious Marksmen were forced to retreat, reducing the pressure on the camp's defense line.

Even so, sporadic Mad Dogs occasionally rushed into the camp, requiring Tianyang and Ji Yu to eliminate them.

After a moment, a new soldier couldn't handle the psychological pressure, shouted, and ran away.

Several Mad Dogs happened to charge into the camp. Tianyang drew the Crimson Moon Warblade, beheading one of them.

Ji Yu promptly shot two arrows, destroying their Will Cages. However, one of the Mad Dogs pounced on the new recruit, grabbing and biting him. The recruit's armor was torn apart, and he screamed for help, but ultimately, the Mad Dog bit off his neck. In his helmet, the recruit's eyes widened, blood pouring out of his mouth as he died.

A red light flashed across the Mad Dogs, and Tianyang's blade almost cleaved one of the monsters in half. Unfortunately, it was too late to save the soldier. Tianyang grunted, lifted his rifle with his left hand, and sent beams of Star Element into the pack of Mad Dogs.

After a few minutes, the severely injured Mad Dogs began to retreat. Before leaving, they bit the heads of their severely wounded but still alive comrades, tearing out their skull caps along with the underlying Will Cages.

When there was not a single living Mad Dog left on the road, the remaining Mad Dogs retreated into the distant darkness.

The battle came to a swift end. At this moment, a soldier kneeled on the ground, weeping. He was a new recruit who had recently joined the Night Walkers. Surviving such an intense battle required some luck, but unfortunately, it seemed his luck had run out.

As the recruit tried to control his emotions and stand up, a wisp of black smoke rose from the front of his helmet. He stared for a moment before realizing that his hand was on fire!

The black flames weren't scorching; instead, they were cold, sending shivers down one's spine.

The recruit screamed in terror, "What is this? What is this?!"

Han Shu and the others just noticed his abnormality. Seeing the black flames, Han Shu's immediate reaction was to rush forward. Suddenly, the black fire surged, and in an instant, it engulfed the recruit.

The recruit turned into a black fireball, emitting a terrifying scream within the flames as he stumbled towards the crowd.

Even Han Shu was at a loss, and just as the black flames rose higher, Tianyang shot a deep blue beam into the fire. The recruit's screams ceased, and he collapsed to the ground. The black fire continued to burn but was no longer accompanied by his cries.

He was already dead.

It was only then that Han Shu reacted, looking towards the source of the beam. Tianyang had just put down his Assault Rifle.

Cang Du also witnessed the scene, and the expression on the young man's face became complicated.

Tianyang sighed lightly, but suddenly his heart thumped heavily. As if electrified, he raised his head and saw a sinister figure behind Ji Yu.

"Get down!"

Tianyang shouted, aiming his gun at Ji Yu and firing abruptly!

Ji Yu's response was also swift. Upon hearing the shout, she immediately threw herself to the ground. Just at this moment, the eerie figure behind her extended a pale and withered hand.

If Ji Yu hadn't dropped to the ground immediately, this hand would have landed on her back.

More importantly, this hand was engulfed in a cluster of black flames!
