Last Egg: Reincarnated as a Dragon in a Game

Chapter 523: Thieves and Assassins

Imagining the great profits of the entire operation, Vesuvius immediately retracted his hostility. At the very least, he decided to hear out the proposal.

After a moment of silence, he spoke, "Continue. I'm interested."

Seeing this, the blonde man smiled, his eyes twinkling with a mischievous glint, and dramatically waved his hand. "I knew you were the right dragon for this. Let's discuss this in private."

With a flick of his claw, Vesuvius transported them to a secluded space above the burning star within his divine kingdom. The blonde man leisurely waved his hand, conjuring a white throne behind him. He sat down, crossing one leg over the other, exuding an air of casual confidence.

"Why do you think angels follow the god of light?" Lucifer began, his tone almost playful.

Vesuvius shook his head, suppressing his growing impatience. He didn't care about heavenly politics; he was focused on the treasures of heaven.

"Because he was appointed as a regent when the Father left. However, the regency claim is false and fabricated!" Lucifer declared, leaning forward with a dramatic flourish.

"How could one fake something like that?" Vesuvius asked, his curiosity piqued despite himself.

"Those who noticed the deception were chased away," Lucifer explained with a theatrical sigh. "This fake god is using a powerful artifact left behind by our Father to trick my naive, dimwitted siblings. The artifact emits the aura of our Father, which he uses as proof of his claim like a seal to sign the father's will."

The blindfolded angel turned to Lucifer, her aura intensifying slightly.

"And since the god of light is already a being of light compatible with angels, as long as he pretends to be righteous, my siblings don't doubt him," Lucifer continued, a devilish grin spreading across his face.

'Are angels really that foolish? No, they are just zealots and lunatics,' Vesuvius thought. He had met enough angels to know how blindly they pursued their truths. Anyone suggesting that their current god was a fraud or that the will of their father was falsified, would be denounced as a heretic without hesitation.

"You want to steal that artifact?" Vesuvius asked, already envisioning the wealth such an item could bring.

"Exactly! The power of the artifact is too great for the impostor to always keep it close. It's mostly kept in the vaults of heaven. If a few other valuables go missing along the way, well, no one will notice," Lucifer said with a nonchalant shrug.

'An artifact too strong for a god? How powerful is this father of angels?' When he thought of it, Vesuvius realized he severely lacked knowledge about the beings at the top. He didn't even know much about some of the hands of Genesis, the faction he was part of.

However, now was not the time to ask, the devil, random questions.

"Without prolonged exposure to that artifact, the aura will fade, and it won't take long for the angels to realize the truth," Vesuvius concluded, his mind racing with the possibilities.

Lucifer's grin widened. "Precisely. Together, we can expose the fraud and claim unimaginable treasures in the process. So, are you in?"

Vesuvius looked at the two celestial beings before him, weighing his options.

If it was earlier, he might have been more careful about a potential trap that something like entering enemy territory could be, but now with his mastery over space elements and even the hidden card of his void travel, he was sure he would be able to escape without any trouble.

'Oh, this might even be why they sought me out. My space element is not a secret, and what is better for robbing someone than the ability to simply teleport in and out,' he mused.

At last, he was sure this plan was a good one. Not only would he get richer, but he would finally get the pesky and annoying angels off his back. With a slow, deliberate nod, he made his decision.

"I'm in. Let's rob the heavens."

"Marvelous!" Lucifer exclaimed, clapping his hands together. "Now, we have the transport," he pointed at the dragon, then shifted his hand toward Raguel, "the insider, and last," he stood up, spreading his arms wide, "me, the greatest demon and angel to ever exist."

Remembering his time back on Earth, Vesuvius almost shook his head, feeling like he was watching the crew introduction of some heist movie.

'Phh, who will be next? A computer guy?' He thought with amusement.

POV BoobaFet:

Rain drummed on the nearby roofs and cars, the raindrops glittering under the lights of streetlamps. In a shadowy side alley, beside an overflowing dumpster, a hooded trio stood. Two were tall, one distinctly feminine, and the third was short and stocky.

"We have found them," the female whispered, her voice a mix of satisfaction and malice. "We have finally found the real locations of those pieces of trash that betrayed us."

BoobaFet's eyes flashed golden as he spat out in disgust. The memory of those they once considered allies, only to be betrayed by them, still made his blood boil even after all these years.

'Fools and idiots!' he thought, his anger simmering. 'The boss always treated us fairly, gave us power to become something greater, to live forever without sickness, and they spat on it all.' To him, they were ungrateful traitors.

If they had simply left over their moral values, he might have been disgusted, but they did more than that. They joined their enemies, using the powers given by their boss against them, actively hindering them throughout the years.

The rough voice of the short dwarf brought him back. "So we are?"

BoobaFet finished, "Yes, we are going to kill them in real life. For betrayal, killing their avatars, no matter how many times, isn't enough."

BoobaFet's face, barely visible under his hood, twisted into a grim smile. "Send a message to the rest, we will gather, and hunt them all down."

He didn't enjoy killing, but this time, he would love it.
