Chapter 174: Chapter 174 - Surprising Comeback

The basketball bounced a few times, capturing everyone's hopes that it would miss the hoop. Everyone except Leon silently wished for failure. Yet, to Leon's relief and everyone else's

dismay, the ball swished cleanly through the net.

Viktor leaped with joy, sprinting back to his friends, who greeted him with laughter and high- fives. The spectators cheered, clearly impressed by Viktor's skill on the court.

Viktor assumed his position again, ready for action. Leon, determined, squared up in defense.

"I didn't even break a sweat, Leon," Viktor teased, chuckling.

However, Leon had managed to nearly block Viktor's shot, falling just short of stopping it entirely. He knew he just needed to replicate that effort one more time.

The score flashed 8 to 0 as the whistle blew, signaling a play. Viktor received the ball confidently, with a sly smile. He jumped, preparing to shoot from where he stood. Leon, anticipating this move, sprang into action. Just as Viktor released the ball, Leon swatted it away, sending it hurtling toward the stands. The crowd gasped and scrambled aside as the ball ricocheted against the seats before coming to a halt.

The unexpected deflection drew astonished murmurs from the audience. Now, the possession switched, and the ball was in Leon's hands.

"Do it right, Leon," Viktor taunted.

Leon remained expressionless as the whistle blew. He caught the ball, instantly grabbing Viktor's attention. Viktor lunged for the ball, but Leon skillfully shielded it with his body. He tried to sprint forward, but Viktor's long arms obstructed his path.

"Do it right, Leon," Viktor repeated with a mocking tone.

The crowd's cheers for Viktor were loud and clear, pushing him forward. Leon acted as if he was about to sprint, then, with a quick feint, sent the ball soaring into the air. Viktor, caught off guard, could do nothing but watch as the ball arced gracefully toward the hoop.

It glided gracefully through the net. The whistle sounded once more, and the score adjusted to 8 to 2.

"Wow, not bad," a voice from the crowd remarked.

"That was pure luck, right?" another speculated.

"Show him how it's done, Viktor!" someone shouted.

The

game pressed on into the next phase, with Leon evading Viktor's attempts to block him. He dribbled the ball skillfully, surprising everyone when he executed a graceful layup into the hoop.

Despite being shorter than Viktor, Leon showcased impressive agility, leaping higher than anyone expected. The score climbed steadily until it stood at 8 to 7 in Viktor's favor. Leon was on the verge of surpassing him, clutching the ball with determination.

"Don't celebrate too soon; the game isn't over yet," Viktor remarked.

"Please, teach me how to play basketball, Viktor," Leon responded, before darting forward and dribbling the ball.

Viktor lunged forward, aiming to body-check Leon, but Leon moved with agility, sidestepping the attack effortlessly. Viktor swung his arm in a desperate attempt to swat the ball out of Leon's grip. Yet, Leon was too quick; he spun gracefully to his left and, with a swift motion, launched the ball toward the hoop.

Viktor, seeing his chance, leaped into the air, arms outstretched to block the shot. However, Leon's aim was powerful. The ball sailed past Viktor's fingertips, and with a satisfying swish, it dropped cleanly through the hoop.

The piercing sound of the whistle sliced through the air, and the scoreboard flickered to show the new score: 8 to 8.

"What's going on, Viktor?"

"Are you throwing the game on purpose? Hahaha!"

"Surely you won't let Leon win, right?"

Viktor's frustration grew. His score was no longer a comfortable lead but rather an even match. Determined to reclaim his dominance, Viktor steeled himself, ready to up the ante against Leon.

Viktor's frustration was so clear. What had started as a comfortable lead had now dwindled into a neck-and-neck battle. The time for playing it safe was over; he knew he had to elevate his game to match Leon's newfound intensity.

From the entrance came a woman, it was Freya. She froze momentarily, astonished by the commotion that revealed itself to be Leon engaged in a heated one-on-one basketball match against an opponent.

"What is he doing now, huh? Accepting another challenge from someone?" she mused, a giggle escaping her lips.

Freya's arrival definitely didn't go unnoticed. Her natural charm always seemed to grab attention, and today was no exception. A wave of curiosity swept through the crowd, especially from those who had never laid eyes on her before.n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om

"Who is she?" a few of them whispered among themselves.

"I don't know... But she looks familiar."

"Man, she's stunning..."

"Go on, talk to her, ask her name."

"Damn, I want to... But let's wait until the game's over."

Freya sauntered over to the spectator seats, gracefully crossing one leg over the other as she took her place. Her eyes were fixed on the court, intrigued to see how the game would conclude.

"Huh, turns out he's still quite the basketball player," she remarked, a smile playing on her lips.

The game continued with Viktor back in possession of the ball. But, in a flash, Leon managed to steal it away. The score climbed to a tense 12 to 12, signaling the game was nearing its conclusion, with Leon holding the ball once again.

This time, the audience seemed to hush, curiosity and suspense hanging in the air as they anticipated the outcome.

Leon accepted the ball, and Viktor immediately stepped up, determined to reclaim it. Leon, finding his opening, began to dribble skillfully. Viktor shadowed him closely, trying to block any attempt, whether it be a direct shot or a layup.

With a low stance to shield the ball, Leon deftly maneuvered, passing the ball between his legs. In a swift, surprising move, he darted to Viktor's right and prepared for a shot. Viktor chased after him, unwilling to let this opportunity slip. But Leon was already a step ahead, gearing up for a daring dunk.

The spectators watched with bated breath, some skeptical of Leon's audacity.

"He won't pull that off," a voice doubted.

"Viktor will block him easily," another predicted.

Viktor leapt to intercept, but Leon's speed and strength were unmatched. With a final, powerful thrust, Leon dunked the ball, hanging from the hoop momentarily before dropping

to the floor just as the whistle blew. The basketball bounced around his feet, marking the

dramatic end.

"Woah... Damn, did Leon just win?"

"Is he a professional player? How did he beat Viktor?"

"I think the team should recruit him. He's really good."

"This must be because Viktor underestimated his opponent. No way Viktor lost otherwise."

Viktor, breathing heavily, grappled with the outcome. He had fought hard, indeed, recognizing the game had been far from easy. What struck him most was how he hadn't

anticipated Leon's basketball prowess.

"Pay up," Leon said to Viktor. "Honor our bet."

Viktor stood, fists clenched, weighing his options. "I'll apologize," he conceded, "but I won't

kowtow. I'll pay you since you won. You need money, right?"

By now, the crowd encircled them both, buzzing with excitement and questions.

"Hey, Viktor, did you really lose to him?"

"Yeah, isn't he just a newbie in basketball?"

"But I saw he can really play."

"So, what was the bet?" another inquired.

Viktor showed no intention of holding up his end of the bet.

"You're good. Thanks for the game," Viktor said, his voice still trembling as he struggled to

accept the terms of their bet.

"Leon..." A woman's voice cut through the tension that lingered on the court.

Everyone turned their eyes to see a young woman making her way through the crowd. She had red-brown hair neatly tucked behind her ears and wore a jeans skirt with a white t-shirt.

"Freya?"

She rushed forward and grabbed Leon's hand. "Come on, you promised me a date, didn't

you?"

Freya then glanced at Viktor. "So, you won the game? That's great... Seems like you still have your basketball skills even though the last time you held a basketball was in high school, huh," she remarked with a smile.

Wrapping her arms around Leon, Freya then took his hand and led him away from the court.

"Let's go."

The onlookers were left stunned by the turn of events. The beautiful woman who had captivated everyone's attention knew Leon? And they were going on a date? One of Viktor's friends patted him on the shoulder. "How did that happen, Viktor?"

Viktor sighed deeply. "I guess he really can play basketball," he admitted.
