Chapter 872 Four Pillars: Full Circle (1)
With him now knowing that he had access to what was essentially the debug feature of the system, it went without saying that Vaughn had focused his attention on improving his personal strength.
From the various classes and subclasses he could obtain by doing various actions to the skills and titles he had gotten from either his class or through repetitive actions, the man began to record them.
After he had reset his system for the first time, he had obtained a Rare class for his Rank 1 class, which was already a considerable improvement to the Uncommon class he had obtained before.
Obtaining a subclass of similar rarity along the way, as well as skills that suited the general direction his progression was heading, the man took his time as he passed through the ranks.
Making use of the information he had already gathered the first time he went through Rank 1, Vaughn was able to snatch himself a Rank 2 class that considerably improved upon the Rank 1 class he had gotten.
Then, by the time a few years had passed, he had ascended to Rank 3 class, improving the rarity of his main class to Epic.
Though his subclass was lagging behind by a single rarity, the strength Vaughn had amassed at this point gave him even more confidence to roam the streets of Veldanyr unfettered.
In fact, with the current strength he wielded, he decided to attempt fighting against beasts that had reached Rank 4 in strength.
The verdict?
His loss.
Singling out a beast that he sensed to be at the early levels of Rank 4, Vaughn laid out all of his cards as he fought against it, smiling as he felt that he had the advantage.
However, as more and more time passed, the scales gradually began to tip towards the beast's favor as it tapped into a fount of strength that the man hadn't discovered before.
Coincidentally, that was the first time something clicked in Vaughn's mind after a long time, recalling the other features of the system he had tinkered in the past that were sealed at the time.
"Intent, huh…"
Understanding that there was still a lot for him to do if he wanted to surmount such a gap, Vaughn did not extend the fight any further, getting a rough idea of where his strength stood.
Yet, at the same time, he thought about the amount of strength lingering within him that he had yet to tap into, the potential within him that was just waiting to be uncovered.
"But of course, I have time on my side."
With that in mind, the man returned to the laboratory, gradually increasing his knowledge regarding the concept of Intents.
And with that, many years unknowingly passed.
Ever since he had obtained access to the Apparatus from the two Arbiters, about 50 years had already passed since then, with the man's strength continuing to undergo massive improvement.
Though it had taken the man quite some time to embark on the path of Intents, it could be said that the man's journey to fully comprehending Intents became smooth-sailing from there.
Armed with the power of Intents and skills honed through hard work, Vaughn fought against the beasts once more, gradually increasing both his strength and comprehension along the way.
By the time he finally decided to take a look at the progress he had made, he had unknowingly reached the peak of the mortal realm already, reaching the terrifying Level 100 barrier.
Aside from that, the man also had a few Intents under his arsenal, with many of them hovering around the 3rd to 5th Grade in terms of power.
Then again, there was one concept amongst his Intents that stood above the rest, ascending beyond its original limits to arrive at a greater level of comprehension.
'The Force of Life.'
Muttering these words to himself, the man clenched his fists before calling upon the power slumbering underneath the concept.
Whoosh!
Within moments, the energy from the Force enveloped both of his fists, only then to expand to cover his entire body not long after.
With his entire body giving off a faint gold sheen, the man soon headed out of the laboratory, deciding to fight against a couple of beasts that had already gone past the realm of mortality.
The Myth level.
Unsurprisingly, just like the first few fights he had against the beasts at Rank 4, his fight against the Myth-level beasts had opened up his mind to a wider world once more.
By fighting against them, he became cognizant of the existence of Legacies, which was considered the agglomeration and fusion of one's entire achievements and actions thus far.
Apart from that, he also became cognizant of the level of comprehension that went beyond Forces, its sheer power allowing one to tap into the strength of the entire world itself.
Concepts.
With those gains, Vaughn swiftly forgot the massive losses he obtained from fighting against the Myth-level beasts, only being able to land a couple of hits on them that did not really amount to much.
Seeing that his current level of strength was not enough to handle the Myth-level beasts that seemed to be the strongest beings of Veldanyr, Vaughn eventually made the decision…
To reset his system once more.
Whoosh!
Going through the sensation of losing all his strength once more, a bitter smile appeared on Vaughn's face as he thought about the amount of time he'd spent getting to that point.
Though, with a few deep breaths and a long exhale, the man quickly moved on as he thought about how what he'd done far paved the way for a better future.
And thus, leaving the laboratory once more with the experience he'd gained throughout the past five decades, Vaughn went through it all over again for a third time.
Fortunately, the experience he had accrued was finally bearing fruit this third attempt, with the Rank 1 class he'd gained now starting off at Epic grade.
By the time he'd reached Rank 3, he was able to ascend his main class to Legendary grade, giving him a level of strength that truly allowed him to transcend class ranks.
At some point down the line, he had even gotten a subclass of the same rarity, allowing his strength to reach even greater heights.
Yet, even after spending a total of 100 years in this third attempt…
Vaughn still wasn't able to succeed in defeating even one of the Myth-level beasts.
Though he had experienced a far more lenient loss this time around, the bout against the beasts made him question himself, wondering whether there was even a point to everything he was doing.
At the same time, it made him think back to the many humans that used to once roam the world he was on over a century ago, filling him with a great sense of sadness.
Fortunately, after having lived through over one and a half centuries on his own at this point, the man was eventually able to readjust himself to how he was before, returning to his laboratory with a firm expression.
'If the third attempt didn't work, then proceed with the fourth.'
And so, Vaughn went through system reset after system reset, slowly gaining more and more knowledge of the ins and outs of the system he had control over.
From the XP he gained from the beasts, to the classes and subclasses that had a specific set of requirements to obtain, all of that was gradually being stored in the man's mind, giving him a better start with every reset.
By the time he had reseted his system for the fifth time, Vaughn ascended to Rank 1 with a Legendary class, only to find a subclass that was of the same rarity not long after.
By the time he had reseted his system for the tenth time, Vaughn had seemingly broken through a barrier, obtaining a Mythic grade class after he had ascended to Rank 5.
By the time he had reseted his system for the 18th time, Vaughn was able to ascend his subclass to the Mythic grade as well, finally giving him the strength necessary to fight against the Myth-level beasts.
In total, he had spent just shy of 3,000 years going through those 18 resets, with his 19th finally giving him the chance he needed to defeat the Myth-level beasts at a lower rank.
Though, not long after he had successfully defeated one of the Myth-level beasts, he found out that the gap between him and the beasts were far higher than imagined.
Rather than fight against beasts whose strengths hovered around Rank 6, the beasts that were considered the strongest in Veldanyr…
Were actually at the pinnacle of Rank 7.
With that realization, Vaughn finally took what was considered the final step, shedding off his mortality and becoming a true Myth-level being.
Only to then reset his system once more, bringing him back to where he started.
Now armed with the knowledge of how strong he needed to be to rule over Veldanyr, as well as the knowledge that came along with ascending to the Myth level, Vaughn decided to take a more relaxed approach to his resets, exploring avenues to the system that he hadn't explored before.
Of course, that did not mean that he'd slacked off in obtaining greater strength, getting the feeling that he would obtain a Mythic grade class at Rank 1 just with a few more resets.
Nevertheless, with the pinnacle level of strength in Veldanyr now understood by him, the man took more time before each reset, now taking over a thousand years before deciding to do so.
Naturally, great changes eventually began to appear on Veldanyr with how much time had passed since the Great Cataclysm.
One such change among them was a random thought Vaughn had one day. Nôv(el)B\\jnn
A thought to bring humanity back where it belonged.
