Molting the Mortal Coil

Chapter 1039: Change

Chapter 1039: Change

There was no wonder Core Laws were at the top and some even said they didnt exist. Change was such a far reaching concept that it was hard to find something it didnt apply to. Corruption, something that is changed from its purest form. The law he called Thermodynamics, which was the change of heat from one place to another. Filtration, a process to remove unwanted things, which was of course to change it from its original state. Even combat was trying to change the opponent's current state of health. Taking any action was in itself a form of change. That meant he could apply his Law to not just his own attacks, but everything around him.

No wonder they spoke of Core Laws with such legendary reverence. This is absurd.

Sage hadnt yet begun to truly experiment, but was merely making guesses based upon his intuition. To grasp the Law of Change, he had to resonate with it, forming a connection with its concepts and ideas. He not only had to isolate that strange feeling, but attune his whole self with it. There was no way he could do that if he didnt understand the magnitude of what Change could entail. He felt that his perspective from modern Earth had helped him again, many concepts of physics dealt with change over time and created a far more systematic view of such things than the people here could ever realize. They might be able to recognize that things slow down more and more over time after they are thrown a long distance, but did they create a name for that term? Did they connect deceleration to acceleration? Would they ever break down such a phenomenon into its component parts and use them to calculate such things in reverse?

Even without adding in other factors like wind resistance and gravity, the locals of the Cultivation world had zero depth in this field. The only studying they did was related to their fighting and cultivation techniques. They would run into all these considerations, but they were far from codifying and studying them all in such great detail. The fields of science and mathematics were greatly lacking in this world. The greatest advancements in those fields were related to Professions, as Alchemists were quite similar to chemists, and Formation Masters used mathematical ideas to create their formations. Yet even these two Professions barely scratched the surface of the two fields.

Alchemists would experiment with different temperature levels, different ingredients, and the potency of those ingredients. They tried to use them in different orders and created many techniques to work with and alter these variables. Sage was never a chemist on Earth, but how could Alchemists ever reach the peak of their Profession when they didnt even know about molecules and compounds, let alone Atoms and Ions? How could they really control every reaction and combination when they didnt even know the basic nature of their materials? While Law energy altered these things and how they interacted, it was a whole sea of variables they didnt even know existed.

Formation Masters were even worse, they used intricacy and the most laborious of calculations to create massive tables to have the answer to every problem. They were lacking more complicated algebraic knowledge that would let them solve all these problems using simple formulas, which is what had first elevated Sage into the high ranks of Formation Masters so easily.

These sorts of gaps in their basic foundational knowledge meant that Sage felt he had a big advantage when it came to understanding the Law of Change. It likely also made a very big difference in his understanding of Primal Laws. He wasnt sure that the actual technical knowledge mattered all that much as he himself wasnt deeply invested in physics or chemistry, but he felt that understanding important major concepts derived from those fields made it much easier for him to comprehend these laws. The cultivators of this world would have only their own experiences to draw upon. Someone trying to understand the laws of fire would watch fires burn, study fire techniques, and travel the world looking for strange fire related phenomena. That was a far cry in depth compared to someone from Earth knowing about the simple fire triangle of: oxygen, heat, and fuel. At the same time, encounters with fantastical flames with strange colors and properties was something those on Earth could never run into.

The narrative has been taken without permission. Report any sightings.

None of that really mattered to Sage personally at this point, he had already grasped the Law of Change. At least not at the moment. There was still a chance these clues could help him on his future advancement path or help to better inform the research teams in their studies. That was also the reason that Sage continued to linger in the separate dimension of the Realm Heart. He needed to return to the outside world in order to fully realize his gains and make his control over the Law permanent, but he had no idea when the process going on in the Realm Heart would come to an end. These fluctuations were the most useful time for studying laws, and once they came to an end then the Realm Heart would have little value left to him. In many thousands of years it would evolve into another full dimension, but that had already been promised to Guan Zhenyan.

Sadly, the Realm Heart was best experienced by a single person. Having others nearby would interfere with the fluctuations of law energy that were being released by the forming dimension. Sage had thought about bringing others from his family with him for the most perfect environment to study laws, but the disturbance caused by multiple people would ruin that perfect environment. It would downgrade guaranteed improvements into simply a great place to train, which was why he chose to go in solo. On the plus side, he was the most well equipped person to be in there solo, with the Inner World to extend his analysis time and whole teams of researchers to help him analyze everything that was going on.

It was also why he wasnt leaving the Realm Heart yet, since he needed to gather as much information from this event as he possibly could. It took a few months for him to gain some control over his resonance with the Law of Change, finally becoming able to stop radiating those resonating energies. With that he could resume studying the Realm Hearts nascent laws as they continued to form. It was doubtful he would get any more progress with his own personal laws as was still wary of influencing the Law of Change, but that didnt mean he couldnt just continue to gather data for the research teams. As the owner of the Realm Heart he had to be here to allow anyone else inside, and he couldnt transfer it to anyone else due to the agreement with Guan Zhenyan. It was better to just remain here solo rather than muddy the waters by adding other people.

A few more years passed by in study, before the Realm Heart finally shifted. The strange flat crystalline structure he was on had started to break down and he knew it was time to leave. Another period of upheaval in the Realm Heart was about to begin, as it moved to the next stage in its development. Sage would have never known any of these things, so it was worth the trade with Guan Zhenyan to gain the related knowledge. After gaining a Core Law, the trade was worth it.

Exiting the Realm Heart, Sage reappeared in the courtyard he was given by Bear Three. Returning after a decade of training in another dimension. The energy of the heavens and earth was vastly different here in comparison to the Realm Heart. The greatly reduced scope and power made it possible for him to observe the core of the dimension, yet that also meant the density and power of those laws was miniscule in comparison. Now that hed returned to the outside world, the power of laws felt like a vast ocean around him. If before he could tap into a few currents, now he felt like he could direct the waves.

CRACK!

The evaluation of his strength was suddenly interrupted by a loud noise. The sky had darkened so rapidly he barely noticed it and that sudden loud noise sent his gaze upward. A roiling black cloud was above him, and the loud sound repeated itself again. The thunder was so loud that he heard the dishes and cups within the nearby kitchen shatter to pieces.

Its here!
