Chapter 4
C4 – Prodigy
Subsequently, one after another, individuals approached to interact with the Spirit Summoning Pearl, yet none managed to elicit its glow.
By this point, the testing process was halfway through, with nearly half of the students in Class Nine having taken their turn, but to no avail.
“I hope everyone can maintain a positive mindset. Even those without the Battle Spirit Bloodline can contribute to society through diligent study of science and culture. Let’s not adopt the extreme views of Zhou He,” the homeroom teacher said with a caring look at the crestfallen students, his voice filled with sincerity.
He could relate to their emotions; who wouldn’t want to be a prodigy, a Battle Spirit Fighter revered by all?
Yet, with only one in a hundred people awakening the Battle Spirit Bloodline, it wouldn’t be unusual for none of his sixty-odd students to possess it.
Still, as their teacher, he couldn’t help but hope for a student to rise to the ranks of Battle Spirit Fighter. His eyes naturally settled on a standout student in the line.
“Ji Buyu, why don’t you give it a try?” he called out to Ji Buyu with a wave and a smile.
At the teacher’s beckoning, Ji Buyu made his way to the Spirit Summoning Pearl. Taking a deep breath, he gently rested his hands upon it.
To everyone’s amazement, the once clear pearl began to transform, emitting strands of pale yellow light from Ji Buyu’s fingertips. The soft glow captivated everyone, as if it were the most enchanting light in existence.
“Well done! It looks like our class has nurtured a potential Battle Spirit Fighter. Remember your teacher and your school when you make it big!” The homeroom teacher feigned composure as he nodded, though inside he was bursting with joy.
Having a Battle Spirit Fighter emerge from his class was not only a significant honor for him as an educator but also a boon for his career prospects.
The previously subdued Class Nine erupted into excitement with their class president’s breakthrough.
“Our class president really has the Battle Spirit Bloodline! And here I thought that pearl was just a piece of broken glass!”
“I always knew our class president was favored by the heavens. You’ve got to have my back when you become a Battle Spirit Fighter!”
“Hey, class president, I’m not too shabby, right? How about I become your girlfriend?”
Suddenly, everyone swarmed around the class president like a throng of ecstatic fans mobbing their idol.
Yet, Ji Buyu found no joy in these empty compliments. His attention was drawn to Qin Hongyu and Bo Miaojiao, queuing at the end of the line.
Clearly, they had noticed the commotion around him but showed no interest in joining the celebration. Qin Hongyu’s lack of response was expected—he was always like that.
But Bo Miaojiao’s indifference, even in the face of his Battle Spirit Bloodline, was something he couldn’t stomach.
He had assumed that once Bo Miaojiao witnessed his Battle Spirit Bloodline, she’d recognize his superiority over that waste, Qin Hongyu. She’d surely revise her opinion of him, perhaps even fall into his arms.
Instead, there they were, still laughing and chatting at the back of the line, utterly unconcerned with his Battle Spirit Bloodline.
“Infuriating! Absolutely infuriating!” Ji Buyu seethed internally, yet he maintained a pleasant facade, betraying no sign of his inner rage.
He strolled over to Feng Yixiu and Bo Miaojiao, offering a gentle smile. “Qin Hongyu, it’s getting late. Shouldn’t you be off to your job at the food stall? Let me keep Miaojiao company. After all, you’ll never possess the Battle Spirit Bloodline.”
“You…”
Bo Miaojiao was on the verge of fury when Qin Hongyu pulled her back, shielding her with his body.
“I thought you only knew how to hide behind girls,” Ji Buyu scoffed.
“You’re so sure I can’t have the Battle Spirit Bloodline?” Qin Hongyu stepped forward, closing the distance between him and Ji Buyu, his gaze steady and unfazed.
Though Ji Buyu stood tall at 1.78 meters, despite being only fifteen, Qin Hongyu matched him in height. They locked eyes, neither yielding an inch in presence.
“What a joke. If a weakling like you can possess a Battle Spirit Bloodline, then pigs might as well fly!” Ji Buyu sneered, refusing to back down in front of his goddess.
Under normal circumstances, he wouldn’t dare to be so brazen, especially with a teacher present. But today was no ordinary day—it was the final class of junior high, and the teacher’s authority over him had all but evaporated.
Besides, he was a bearer of the Battle Spirit Bloodline, elevating his status far above the average person. He was confident that when push came to shove, the school would never favor an unsupported orphan over him.
