Chapter 104 No Skill Points
<I'm glad you made that call> Catherine said as Dave stepped outside of the house before closing the door. <Those annoying thoughts are less now>
'You know your voice in my head is annoying most of the time.' Dave replied as he moved toward his car.
<There's a feature to turn me off if you want to>
'I'll think about it after the match.' He said subconsciously before opening the door.
He threw his backpack to the other seat before getting into the car and quickly reversing into the road before zooming off toward the Wondamino stadium.
He was one of the first players to arrive but it didn't take long for the other players to arrive and after everyone was there, they all got on the bus which was their ride to the airport.
It didn't take them long to arrive at the airport where the team's private plane was already waiting for them.
They got on the plane as fast as they could before and just a few seconds after the step had retracted and the door closed, the plane ran down its lane before zooming off into the sky.
As always, Mateo and Dave were sitting together but the two weren't having any conversation as they were both on their phones.
Mateo had wired earphones in his ear so he couldn't really hear anything that was going on around him.
It was only after a few minutes that he had come across something that he thought Dave needed to see.
"Classic Darwin Shaw." The left winger said.
"Huh?" Dave said, turning his gaze to him.
Mateo disconnected the headphone from his phone before turning the screen of the phone to Dave so that he could see and hear what it was saying.
It was the video of the interview between Caitlin and Darwin Shaw.
"Yeah, I was watching BPL weekly yesterday and she played the video," Dave said before turning his gaze away from the phone and turning it back to his phone.
"You've already seen the video?"
"Yeah," Dave said with a nod.
"What do you think about what he said?" Mateo asked.
"I don't know." The goalkeeper said with a shrug. "We'll just have to wait till the match starts to see if he can keep to his words."
"Yeah," Mateo said before plugging his headphone back into his phone.
It took up to forty-eight minutes before their plane landed at Frono airport and without wasting time, the players along with the coach and other staff made their way down from the plane.
Given the fact that the Frono Da Best stadium was about a twenty minutes walk from the airport, they were going to need a ride to get there but that wasn't a problem as Frono FC's bus could be seen entering the area a few minutes after they had stepped down from the plane.
With the bus, they were able to get to the stadium in less than six minutes, and coming down from the bus now, they could see that there were a lot of fans in the area waiting for them to arrive.
The time was 5:50 PM when they arrived
The fans were screaming the names of the players as they made their way into the stadium and for the first time ever Dave could hear his name among the screams.
He signed the jersey of a young girl who had asked for it and after that, there were a lot of other people asking for his autograph so the security officers quickly made their way to the area to block them off before things got out of hand.
"You really like signing autographs," Mateo said as soon as the two stepped inside.
"You can't blame me." The goalkeeper muttered with a shrug.
The players along with Norman were taken to their locker room by one of Frono FC's staff and as soon as he was gone, the players began to change into their training kits.
Their training jerseys were black with three long orange stripes but the shorts were just plain black.
Dave was also putting on the kit but instead of shorts, he was putting on trousers.
He was sitting beside Mateo tying his boots when the winger suddenly dipped his hand into his backpack and brought out a pair of nice-looking silver boots.
"You bought new boots?" Dave said as soon as he spotted the boots.
"Not exactly, I just signed a sponsorship deal with Adidas so they gave me the boots." He said, showing him the Adidas logos on the side of the boots.
"Wow."
"Adidas makes nice boots," Ferran said showing them the Adidas logos on his red boots which he was putting on now. "Welcome to the family Mateo, why didn't you tell me earlier?"
"Well, it only happened yesterday and I was planning to tell you guys with the boots." He said.
'I didn't know Ferran was an Adidas athlete.'
<You should pay more attention to what they are wearing especially the boots>
"Wow, Mateo's now an Adidas athlete," Jonas said before turning his gaze to Dave. "Which one are you under Dave?"
Dave ignored him as he brought out his boots from his backpack and dropped them on the floor before he began to remove his sneakers.
"That's going to haunt him for a long time." Mateo bent down to whisper to the goalkeeper.
<You've ignored him a lot of times but I think this one hit him hard>
After putting on their training kits, the players made their way to the pitch where Frono FC players were already training.
One of Frono FC's players made his way toward the area as soon as he saw the players walking into the pitch.
A player named Rodriguez Seth, Frono FC's right winger.
"Hey, guys." He said as soon as he stopped in front of Ferran, Mateo, and Dave.
"Hey, Seth," Mateo said.
"Welcome." The winger said with a smile.
Seth and Mateo had gotten quite close since the day the nineteen year old was subbed in against Frono FC, they weren't that close but they were close, and Set really liked the youngster.
"Thank you," Mateo said.
"I'm looking forward to a fun match," Seth said.
"It's only going to be fun if we beat them." Darwin popped up from behind Seth to say. "Hello, Ferran, Mateo, and of course Dave."
"Darwin," Ferran said.
"I heard they are calling you the ball magnet now," Seth said, turning his gaze to the goalkeeper. "No, I saw it in an article online by Emma Smith."
"That's a cool accolade," Mateo said.
"Well, I hate to break it to you ball magnet but magnetic forces don't work in the Front Day Best so you're going to have to figure out something else," Darwin said. "See you guys later." He added before running back to the rest of his teammates.
'We'll see.'
