Chapter 5: Slaying The Rat King!
Chapter 5: Slaying The Rat King!
As Aurora stared unblinking at the huge woodrat in front of her, an information window emerged in the air.
---
Wood Rat King
Level: 10
Skills: Commander, Bite, Wood Attribute Resistance
---
'What the heck! It's actually the Rat King!!'
Aurora felt her headache getting worse.
The special monster that could not be spawned in hundreds of rat plagues in the game was actually bumped into by her now? She thought the leader of the woodrats would be Wood Rat Leader around level 5~6, but unexpectedly she met their king.
But at this point, she had no other choice, so she could only bite the bullet in silence. Fortunately, she had contracted the Flamberge Waltz. The additional fire attribute from the sword relatively restrained the Rat King; otherwise, she would have to run for her life if she had other attributes.
The woodrat king roared, and the surrounding woodrats became restless. They began to sprint towards Aurora's side.
Facing the attack of the woodrats, Aurora immediately released the fire element to surround herself and, at the same time, waved the Flamberge Waltz to kill those pests that broke through the defense.
But the strange thing was that this time the horde of woodrats didn't show any timidity at all, even if they were engulfed in flames, it couldn't stop them from charging forward.
Aurora understood the wood rat king's intentions at once. It was using the commander to order the wood rat group to form a wall of flesh with their bodies while it would break through from above.
How could Aurora give them this chance?
She slashed forward three times. The burning sword energy roared out from the edge of the sword, tearing apart the wall of flesh piled up by the woodrats in front. Afterward, she slammed into the Rat King not far away like a broken army.
"Captain! We have to help her!"
Seeing this situation, Claudia was extremely distraught. Even though Aurora had a very strange fighting style that allowed her to contend with the Rat King, such a serious injury could not allow her to fight for a long time. Furthermore, she could only use her [Cure] spell for one last time. Claudia couldn't imagine what would happen if Aurora's wound reopened following the final cast of [Cure].
In the dense group of woodrats, if she showed her weakness, she might be eaten up on the spot.
"Although I really want to go help that lady, but right now..." Gard said helplessly as he trampled the woodrat, who was still alive, to death.
Aurora took some of the woodrats' attention away, but there were still a lot of woodrats gathered around them. They had lost several people, and now they had no way to assign people to help her. Even if there were... no one would want to jump into the quagmire.
The cruel reality was that not many mercenaries could help others desperately in the face of death, let alone strangers who were not even clients.
"Oh! Goddess, please save your pious believer!" The businessman was still kneeling in the carriage, trembling and praying, "Hurry up and get rid of these damned rats! Oh! My wine... damn it! I paid a lot of money for that!"
He only heard the sound of the rope snapping, the sound of gurgling and rolling to the ground, and the sound of gnawing wood, followed by a strong smell of wine permeating the area, and the heart of the businessman was almost broken. He didn't need to look to see that these rats had ruined all of his fine wine.
Aurora didn't notice the commotion here at all. All her attention was on the Rat King.
After a fight, she could only inflict a few wounds on the monster that was neither deep nor shallow. This Wood Rat King was really cunning. It could even order the woodrats in his surroundings to rush over to help him resist quite a few attacks during the battle.
Although there were no HP or MP displayed like in the game, Aurora could instinctively sense that they were almost in a very unhealthy state, while the Rat King seemed to be in a very good state.
The Rat King seemed to see through Aurora's current situation. It just calmly ordered these wood rats to attack and consume her energy.
[Congratulations to the player Aurora for reaching level 3 and gaining 1 skill point]
After beheading five or six woodrats in a row, Aurora was shocked by the system's notification sound. Now her level had reached level 3, which meant she had two skill points to allocate!
And these two skill points were her lifeline!
Aurora directly opened the skill bar, added these two skill points to [Spirit Sword Art - F], and upgraded it to [Spirit Sword Art - D]
[The Spirit Sword Art had been upgraded to level D, and the sword skills are unlocked: Mirage Sword Art - F, Magic Enhanced Sword Dance - F]
---
Mirage Sword Art: When using this skill to attack within 5 seconds, the sword move will be recorded and released with a delay of 1 second.
Magic Enhanced Sword Dance: During the use of the skill, it continuously consumes mana to enhance its own attributes, and releases four quick slashes forward after ten seconds.
---
Aurora breathed a sigh of relief. By unlocking these two skills in combination with the Flamberge Waltz in her hand, she was confident that she could kill the Rat King.
"Let's start the second round!"
Aurora raised the crimson sword and stabbed forward violently. Fiery flames erupted from the blade, devouring the chattering woodrats in front of her.
"Magic Enhanced Sword Dance!"
It turned out that, just like in the game, she just needed to chant the name of the skill and it would be automatically activated.
At this moment, the time around Aurora seemed to slow down, and her body glowed with a faint red light. In the next moment, she rushed towards the Rat King like a piercing bullet.
When the scarlet sword blade hit its body, the flames surrounding the sword also spread out, burning small holes in the surrounding body. The severe pain made the Rat King howl, and it twisted its body and used its thick tail to ruthlessly sweep toward Aurora.
The tail swept towards her with the sound of howling wind, and there were two options before Aurora's eyes. One was to back away immediately, but she would miss a chance to strike, and the other was to take the initiative to attack.
The Rat King turned its back on her and attacked with reckless abandon, thus its weaknesses would also be exposed to her, but the price was very likely that she would have to forcibly resist this wave of damage.
This was a very risky choice, but also an opportunity!
"Mirage Sword Art!"
Aurora didn't hesitate any longer, and almost simultaneously activated the mirage sword art as the time for the magic attribute sword dance was about to end.
Her body involuntarily lowered down and made the movement of drawing the sword, and the sword followed!
In an instant, the four slashes formed and slashed towards the sweeping tail, but in the next second, another four slashes appeared in front of Aurora, who had not moved at first, and a total of eight slashes fiercely met the Rat King's tail attack.
"Screeech!!"
The Rat King let out a sharp, mournful cry from the slashing wounds. Its tail was split apart into several pieces, and a large amount of blood spurted out, staining the grass red.
Aurora immediately seized this opportunity, jumped up with all of her strength, stepped on the giant rat's buttocks, and slashed at the little blue flower on the rat's forehead fiercely with the long sword in her hand.
With the flower chopped off from its stem, the Wood Rat King's entire body was shaken, and then the ear-piercing cry stopped abruptly as its body went limp and fell heavily on the grass.
[Killed the Rat King and gained 1500 experience... Congratulations to the player Aurora for reaching level 5 and gaining 2 skill points]
[Acquired Loot: Wood Rat Flute]
"Is it finally over?"
Aurora stuck the sword on the ground to support her body, and a holy light fell from the sky to heal her wounds again. However, she quickly realized that the situation was not right.
After killing the Wood Rat King, the hordes of wood rats should've immediately dispersed and fled, but now they just stopped attacking and hissing.
Boom!
In less than a few seconds, another area where the woodrats were densely packed suddenly surged. A giant pale green rat crawled out of it, its scarlet eyes stared at Aurora, and a bloodthirsty light shone inside.
"Oh, Jesus! Not again!"
Aurora couldn't help but curse in her mind.
