Chapter 69: Difficult to Understand
"I am not in the habit of interfering with my daughter's choices," the woman replied, instantly making David breathe a sigh of relief.
"However," the woman continued, "whether or not your relationship can work out will depend on the opinion of the Rothschild Family. You know that I'm just an outsider married to one of their members, so my opinion doesn't really matter. If it weren't for my abilities, they really wouldn't care about me."
"Why wouldn't they care about you, Mrs. Evelyn? You are the wife of Jane's father." David was somewhat surprised by Evelyn's words, feeling that something was wrong.
"No, Jane's father is dead, so I'm just a widow," Evelyn replied.
This time, David's lips parted.
Jane had never told him that her father was dead. This was of course sad news.
In such a family where rivalries were common, being without a father must not have been easy.
David was silent for a long time before saying, "For me, the important thing is that you agree to our relationship. As for the Rothschild Family, that is an issue that needs to be dealt with slowly."
"It won't be easy, and you should know, some of Jane's cousins actually have an interest in marrying Jane," Evelyn replied.
Hearing something like this naturally made David upset. His expression became rather ugly for a moment.
However, in no time he became indifferent.
"I'm not afraid of fighting with anyone. If they want to fight, I will accompany them to the end," he said in a very decisive tone.
Evelyn was a little surprised when she saw David's expression now, especially since his words contained a domineering intent.
This was beyond her expectations as she thought David would not be that bold in speaking.
She looked into his determined eyes for a moment before laughing. "Yeah, it's great if you can beat them up someday!"
After saying that, she poured more wine into her cup and David's cup.
"Come on, keep drinking," she said.
Since David did want to drink more after tasting it once, so he didn't refuse.
It was just that, before he could drink, Evelyn pointed her cup at his.
"Cheers," she said.
Clang!
The sound of two cups colliding resounded. Only then did Evelyn take another drink.
David rolled his eyes, finding it increasingly difficult to judge this woman.
"Mrs. Evelyn, are you the one who helped me overcome the problems at the university?" asked David after he had a drink. He wanted to confirm it so that there would be no more doubts.
"Yeah, it was easy with my authority," Evelyn replied casually, not denying that.
"By the way, stop calling me Mrs. Evelyn, just call me Evelyn, after all, aren't we online friends?" she added, looking at David with an inexplicable smile.
David rolled his eyes, and in time he felt that something was going to go in a direction that might be good but difficult.
After a moment of thought, he stood up.
"Mrs. Evelyn, it's probably time for me to go now," he said, not following the advice to call Evelyn by her name directly.
"Isn't that too soon?" Evelyn instantly knitted her brows.
"I need to get to bed early because I need to go to class tomorrow," David replied.
"You're drunk enough already, you shouldn't drive. I'll book a room for you here."
"No, I'm sure I can still drive."
"Does this place not appeal to you?"
"You must know that I'm the kind of guy who dislikes places like this."
"Ohh, right, you're a guy who likes games, how about we go to the next room, there are lots of fun games."
David didn't know whether to laugh or cry now that she was obviously taking him to a casino.
In David's view, gambling was the worst thing ever. Audrey often talked about how harmful gambling was, and he agreed with everything she said. Even as a different being now, he would still choose to avoid gambling.
Perhaps money didn't matter to him with the card given by Jane. However, the traits of a gambler was something that was truly harmful to himself and those around him.
"I'm not going there," David replied.
"You don't have to play, just accompany me," the woman replied.
"No!" David still refused.
"What if I insist? And if you don't agree, I won't approve your relationship with Jane." she asked in response to David's refusal.
Hearing that, David was silent for a moment.

However, that didn't stop him. He took a step without saying anything else.
Because of the Zeus blood in his body, every part of him did not allow others to force him.
He might need Evelyn's approval for his relationship with Jane to go well, but if Evelyn tried to force him to do something he didn't want, like going to the casino, he was ready to be antagonized by her.
Evelyn's eyes showed a strange look as David ignored her.
After that, she suddenly laughed.
David wanted to stop his steps because he heard her laugh which could be said to be beautiful and charming. He was a bit curious as to what made her laugh. However, he thought it would look awkward if he stopped his steps now.
"It seems that your principles are very high, young man?" The woman's voice echoed behind David.
Although David did not stop his steps, he still looked back, finding that Evelyn was smiling broadly at him.
It was a very alluring smile, making it hard to take your eyes off her, especially for people who had only ever seen her on tv.
What was she thinking?
For David, she was too hard to guess.
"You know, you really resemble the main characters in son-in-law themed novels," she said suddenly.
David instantly stopped his steps when he heard that.
He even wondered if she was talking about the online novels that were popular these days. Did she like reading that kind of novel?
According to David himself, it was a genre full of nonsense. Even if Evelyn liked reading novels, a woman of her class should be reading high-quality novels.
"David, do you want to know a secret from Jane. It's a very important secret and only me and Jane know about it," she added.
When he heard that, David even turned around.
"What is it?" he asked.
Of course, he was curious about something like this.
"How about we go downstairs and dance together? I'll tell you there," Evelyn replied as she stood up.
David, "..."
