Chapter 1071: Wolf Sightings
Chapter 1071: Wolf Sightings
"That'll secure me to your back, sure. But how do you expect it to hold my legs from slapping in the wind?" she asked, looking at him like he was dumb.
Alex sighed heavily, finding her retorts exceedingly sharp for what he considered a great idea.
"I'll strap your legs in like if you were riding a horse. That way, you'll be tightly secure to me and won't go flying off. If you clench them tightly to my sides and hold on tightly with your arms, the belts should provide enough stability for this to work," he claimed.
The crazy idea discouraged Kary, but was there a point in arguing? She knew Alex wouldn't give up until they tried his way.
"You better be ready to catch me if I suddenly fly off," she muttered, getting up and leaning on his back.
She wrapped her arms around his neck and lifted her legs off the ground.
With a whip of the belt around his midsection, Alex wrapped it around her back and thighs, tying the belt over his lower abdomen, and he smiled as he checked the sturdiness of his makeshift harness.
Everything seemed fine, and he grinned.
"This is perfect!" he exclaimed, jumping a bit to ensure everything held in place.
He felt Kary's arms squeeze his neck, and her thighs squeeze his sides, and he smiled.
"See? You already get what you need to do. The belt will keep you from swinging around as long as you hold yourself in place like that," he said cheekily.
Kary's arms squeezed a little tighter, starting to block his airway, and he heard her whisper in his right ear.
"Keep being a smartass, and I'll choke you out," she growled.
Alex chuckled, knowing he could clench his neck muscles hard enough in this form to negate her threat entirely, but he instead slid his hand across her arm gently.
"I'm sorry. I'm not trying to mock you. I'm just proud of my idea," he said softly.
He felt Kary's arm loosen around his neck and heard her sigh.
"Fine. Can we go now? I feel stupid in this position," she mumbled.
Alex nodded, his smile turning to a smirk without her noticing.
He lowered his posture, starting to move forward, accelerating slowly at first. Alex wanted to be sure everything still held as he ran, so he couldn't just burst forward.n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
When they reached the speed they had been travelling up to now, he smiled, feeling confident in his setup.
"Are you ready? I'm accelerating now," he asked, his muscles starting to tense.
Kary felt the change under both their clothes, and her grip around him tightened. "I'm ready," she reluctantly said.
Alex grinned, feeling the beastly instincts inside him rise, and he howled loudly before his legs exploded with force, and the dirt cracked under his feet, blasting him forward.
The people who lived close to where this happened suddenly frowned as they heard a wolf's howl.
There weren't supposed to be wolves in the low south of China, and this made them call animal control so they could look into it. Of course, animal control would laugh them off, as most wolves in China were already tagged and micro-chipped, so they would know if one suddenly descended so far south.
The people's complaints were discarded, and the officials claimed it must have been someone pulling a prank on them from inside the woods.
It was only a few hours later, when people started calling back and sending images of a white furry blur passing on their trail cams, that the officials began questioning the accuracy of their tagging system.
But even when they sent someone there the next day, there wasn't any trace of wolves or even tracks left behind by canines at all in the sectors in question.
Only footsteps dug deep into the ground like the person leaving them was either extremely heavy or pushing against the ground with extreme force. Of course, this theory was discarded, as no one could exert the force needed to dig their foot so deep into the ground.
In the meantime, Alex blasted through the woods, dodging between the trees, trying to keep his passenger as stable as he could by borrowing the straightest path he could in between each trajectory change.
Kary was tasked with telling him if she felt traces of mana around them, since she could see further than he could.
She warned him every time she felt traces coming their way, and he would stop momentarily, gauging if they were from Violette, and changed paths when they were, sometimes having to cross over the road and getting seen briefly.
He figured no one would ever believe a person claiming to have seen a humanoid wolf person carrying on his back a woman with red hair, going quicker than most of the cars on this road, so they were safe for now.
Of course, all these reports could come to bite them in the ass if someone with knowledge of the situation was looking into them. But he was sure they would be out of the country before anyone found the traces back to them.
Plus, he was sure that Kujaku had someone canvassing through the news and police reports and erasing traces of their presence. Well, almost sure...
But it didn't matter right now. His only thought was following the path left behind by Violette and regrouping with his friends.
They could figure things out once they were back together.
Alex cursed how far 'Point Delta' was from their last position, thinking Kujaku could have thought of spots closer for their regrouping.
'I'll have a few words to tell her about this. If I couldn't keep this form for a long time, there would be no way for us to catch up to them, and we'd get ditched on foreign grounds with no way to know where we are...'
He didn't know what the reasoning behind her picking a spot so far from their position to reconvene was, but he would give her shit about it, regardless.
He liked running like this; it made him feel free. But this was a risky situation that could go to shit at any moment.
'I can't wait to see the face she makes when I reach there not long after them, hehehe,' he
mentally chuckled.
'I bet she'll be fucking surprised.'
