Chapter 42: Goblins
Chapter 42: Goblins
The following day, both Lily and Thea woke up when the sun rose but instead of leaving they lay in the tent for a few more hours, when they finally lazed around enough they set on their way.
During the trip, Lily watched Thea use her magic and the other way around. Both were fascinated by the others, as they their understanding of magic was fundamentally different. Thea then thought of a situation that would never happen to her and asked Lily about it.
"What would happen if someone would use all their mana?" Thea asked curiously.
Lily looked a little shocked but answered anyways.
"I don't know how you don't know, as you yourself have been practicing magic, but normal people only have about 0.1-5% mana regeneration, now when your mana hits 5% left, you start to feel sluggish, when it hits 0% you faint. Your body naturally regains that mana at the speed of your bodies passive mana regeneration rate, but if you faint, you go into mana sickness, the rate at which your mana returns will be exponentially slower and you only wake up, when your mana reaches 5% again. Understand?" Lily asked Thea after a long explanation.
Thea had frozen in her tracks, when she heard normal people only have 0.1-5% mana regeneration, while she had a whopping 300%. Wouldn't this mean, that if someone with 5% mana regen had her [Hair Suit] skill, they wouldn't even be able to use it for a whole minute!
"Mommy about how much mana regeneration do you have?" Thea asked hesitantly.
"Hmmm, if I were to guess, about 15%. Though let me have you know, there are few out there with more passive mana regeneration than me." She smiled, brightly, proud of herself.
"Urgg Is there any other way to regenerate mana?" Thea asked, realizing how over the top she had gone with her mana regeneration.
She had paid 25 000 DP for her skin and another 600 DP for her magic core. Every time Thea learned more about the standards of the inhabitants in Duca, she realize how exaggerated her choices were. She didn't regret them though.
Answering Thea's question Lily answered: "You can consume potions, herbs and certain foods to regain mana again. Would you like to hear more about these?"
"No, it's fine." She replied, as all her questions had been answered.
As they had just finished this topic, Thea had noticed something on her map. After the incident with the pond, she decided she would leave her map visible while they travel.
Now though, in the peripheral of the map one green dot was covered by a lot of red dots, 35-40 dots if Thea had to guess.
She looked at her mother who was walking next to her and her mother smiled warmly back at her.
"What is it dear?" Lily asked curiously, looking at Thea.
"My skill tells me there is something that it considers 'friendly' in danger a few hundred meters that way." She said while pointing east.
"Shall we go take a quick look?" Lily asked, even when knowing, it was exactly what Thea wanted to do.
Thea nodded and jumped up to the branches of the surrounding trees and headed to the location with Lily following close besides her.
When they arrived where the map was showing the dots, what Thea and Lily saw was a hooded merchant carriage with 12 humans, all men, protecting it from the surrounding creatures attacking it.
When Thea inspected the recognizable creature the following status came up.
-----------------------------------
[Name = Goblin]
[Race = Monster]
[Level = 0 ]
[Strength = 15] [Mana = 5]
[Defense = 10] [Charm = 0]
[Agility = 10] [Luck = 0]
-----------------------------------
[Active Skills: Select to Open]
-----------------------------------
Thea noticed a few things as she checked the status. None of the goblins had any level, they were all level 0, next: although there were different types of goblins which used short-bows, daggers an pathetic magic using canes, each goblin using the same tool had the same specific mastery for that tool and the same stats. Last was that they didn't have a passive skill section.
Although the men were physically larger, they were outnumbered 3:1 and as a result, the goblins seemed to be pushing them back. As Thea and Lily were observing the situation from a nearby tree branch, one of the men defending the carriage was struck with an arrow, creating a flaw in their defense.
When Thea saw this she wanted to go and help them but looked at her mother instead, as she hadn't moved yet.
"I'll let you do what you want but you take care of the situation until it is properly handled." Lily said unamused and Thea could see a slight disgust in her expression which Lily was trying to hide.
Thea thought this was weird but the group of humans was running out of time and this situation provided her a perfect excuse to try out her hair suit in combat. Thea equipped her suit and jumped down the branch.
