Primitive Man

Chapter 81: Suspicious behaviour

In a quaint little hut nestled deep on the right side of the main village, Rona sat with her parents, their faces bathed in the warm glow of a bonfire.

The room was filled with the soothing sound of crackling firewood, and a sense of comfort enveloped them, as they took their ate all the delicious meal Rona brought with her.

Rona's mother, her eyes filled with concern, asked, "How have you been, dear? Are you feeling any better?"

Rona nodded and replied with a small smile, "Yes, Mother, thanks to Garnt, things have been much better lately. I'm officially going to be his underling and I can't help but feel that is the purpose of my life."

Her father chimed in, his voice filled with gratitude, "Indeed, Garnt has been a blessing. We owe him a great debt to see all these new inventions. I feel like my young blood is screaming to help this young man and learn from him."

Both Rona's parents talked showing they were indeed humble people that didn't view Garnt as a way to enrich their own life, instead, they wanted to stand beside him and help him.

Just then, the door creaked open, and a familiar figure stepped into the room. Amel, with a radiant smile on his face, greeted Rona's parents, "Good evening, Uncle and Aunt. I hope you're both well."

He had some raw meat and fruits in his hand, which looked rather rotten and Rona's face went sour seeing those. She wanted to shout at him and say that he shouldn't bring those things, but she waited as she didn't want to cause problems in front of her parents.

The two parents couldn't hide their delight at seeing Amel. Rona's mother spoke warmly, "Amel, it's always a pleasure to see you. How have you been?"

Amel's smile widened as he responded, "I've been doing just fine, thank you for asking."

Rona couldn't help but chime in, her eyes shining with gratitude toward Garnt, "Amel after Garnt helped us, everything has improved so much. Once my parents are completely better, you should join the main village and help Garnt."

Amel nodded in agreement, his eyes filled with a mix of appreciation and determination, but hidden inside his calm face was the anger that he tried so hard to hide. "Thank you, Rona. I appreciate your kindness. I'm sure together, we can overcome any challenge.

I will try to do that."

After a few moments of warm conversation, Amel excused himself and left the room, but Rona finally scolded him telling him not to bring raw food into the hut where her sick parents are.

Without showing any objections, Amel took all the food back since he didn't want to stay in that hut any longer.

Rona's parents exchanged a knowing look, and her mother couldn't help but ask, "Rona, dear, what's your relationship with that young man, Garnt? From the way you talk about him, you seem very close to him."

A soft blush crept onto Rona's cheeks as she tried to find the right words. "Well, Mother, Garnt and I... we've become really good friends over the last few days. He's been there for us when we needed him the most."

She then started to compliment Garnt as if she were introducing her boyfriend to her family for the first time. "To be honest, Mother, I think he is the most attractive man in the village now."

Her father chuckled softly, his eyes twinkling with understanding. "Friends, huh? Well, he seems like a fine young man. We're just happy to see you so happy, my dear."

But Rona's mother wasn't going to let her daughter ignore the main question, so she got to the main point with a grin on her face. "So are you going to mate with him?"

Rona blushed at her mother's directness but couldn't help but chuckle nervously. "Mom, it's not like that... We're just friends."

Her mother leaned in closer, her grin widening. "Oh, honey, I can see it in your eyes. There's something more there, isn't there?"

Rona hesitated, realizing that there was no point in denying it any longer. Taking a deep breath, she nodded, her cheeks still flushed. "Okay, fine. Maybe there's something more.

But we're taking it slow, Mom, just getting to know each other better. Besides he is not a wild animal like man, he respects me."

Her father chimed in, his voice gentle but supportive. "That sounds like a wise approach, dear. It's important to build a strong foundation for any relationship."

The way her parents were thinking was nothing like primitive cavemen and that's exactly what made them special from the normal people.

Rona's mother beamed with delight. "That's wonderful, sweetheart. We just want you to be happy."

As the warmth of the room enveloped them once more, Rona couldn't help but smile. In that cosy little hut, with her parents' blessing and Garnt's friendship, her heart felt lighter than it had in a long time

But Rona's moment of contentment was abruptly interrupted by a loud noise coming from outside the hut. Startled, she quickly excused herself and rushed to the source of the disturbance.

"What was that?" She questioned herself, as she walked outside.

Her heart raced as she reached the broken wooden wall, her eyes scanning the area for any signs of what could have caused it.

Confused and slightly worried, Rona couldn't find any immediate explanation for the damage. The village had always been a peaceful place, and such occurrences were rare.

She examined the splintered wood and the surrounding ground, but there were no footprints or clues as to what might have caused this.

Frowning, Rona decided to return to her parents and share her discovery. She didn't want to keep them in the dark about the strange incident. As she made her way back into the cosy hut, her parents looked at her with concern.

"What happened, dear?" her mother asked, her expression shifting from happiness to worry.

Rona shook her head. "I'm not sure, Mom. There's a broken wall outside, maybe some kind of an animal. I will ask Garnt to increase security."

She said those words and went back to her cosy talks with her parents without knowing what kind of a message that broken and shattered wooden wall carried.

As Unami and Ayra crouched behind the thickly grown bushes, hidden from sight, their eyes remained fixed on the entrance of the mine. They had been tracking Moga, the notorious invader and the enemy with a penchant for cruelty, for days.

Today was the day they would finally catch him in and quickly assassinate him, so he wouldn't be able to harm their people. Neither Unami nor Ayra talked, since they knew even the slightest sound would be dangerous for them, but things didn't go as expected.

But as they watched, their anticipation turned to confusion. Instead of Moga emerging from the mine, it was only a group of small fries, low-level workers who were hardly a threat. Unami and Ayra exchanged wary glances, their instincts on high alert.

Unami's eyes narrowed as she whispered, "Something's not right, Ayra. Why are they leaving the mine looking rather weird like this? Did they sense us or something?"

Ayra's grip on her dagger tightened, her knuckles turning white. "They might be onto something, Unami. But we can't let them return to Moga with the knowledge that we're out here. Let's take them down quietly."

With a swift nod of agreement, the two skilled spies moved in, stalking their prey like shadows in the night. But their hopes of a silent takedown were shattered as soon as the small fries sensed danger and began to scatter like frightened rats.

Ayra cursed under her breath, her frustration evident. "How did they know we were waiting for them outside? We've been so careful! You were right, they knew we were here"

Unami, still chasing one of the small fries, replied, "It's as if they were expecting us. Perhaps they've been tipped off."

The small fries, however, were faster and more nimble than Unami and Ayra had anticipated. They quickly made their way back to the mine entrance, where reinforcements could be lurking.

"Tell Garnt that they know we are here, also tell that-" But before she could respond, a huge rock came from the mind and landed on the place where they were spying from earlier, and Ayra knew if something like that was possible, it should be Moga that Garnt was speaking about.

"Tell him that they are not like the aggressive people he was talking about.

Retreating like this and using aerial attacks, they might have done something to improve like this," She wanted to keep spying, but she knew it was too dangerous, so she also decided to go back until Garnt took his decision to fight these people and she knew it won't be long before that happens, after all, Garnt won't allow these people to exist even if they wanted.

"This is a nuisance we should eliminate before it grows into something big. So I agree with Garnt, these people should die, if we want to survive,"
