Chapter 18: The devil's camp

Chapter 18: The devil's camp

In a place in the underworld, a light surged contrasting with the dark and ominous ambient, indicating that a person just passed through an array. The place is dark with some leafless trees and a dense fog that covered the sky and make it difficult to see 2 meters ahead.

Ye Yan only saw scenery like this in horror movies, making him feel like a ghost will pop up at any time, and to think that he is in this place looking for a devil makes you wonder about what you are doing. He couldn't count on his vision to look for the devil, so he concentrated in his surroundings, trying to hear some sound that could help him to find the way the devil had gone, but the only sound he could hear was the hooting of an owl and the howl of wolves. Maybe meet a werewolf is a possibility here. After a while, he gave up on trying to found them by the sound and tried to look at any discernible detail that he could found. When he looked at the ground, he discovered some footprints and was surprised because he never thought he could find them in a game. Even after some days playing, he still didn't completely adapt to the game, because in his mind, certain things aren't possible in games. He had playing detective games before and used footprint to find the criminal, but using it here was not a thing that ever passed in his mind.

Ye Yan followed the footprints until he started to hear voices, but it was a strange language that he never heard before. He tried to see what was happened but the fog was too thick, so he had to crouch while moving in the direction of the voice to make it harder for him to be found. He even started to think that maybe he should have chosen to be a thief class, because he is becoming an expert in skills like sneak, ambushes, backstab, and now crouching.

When he began to discern some silhouettes through the fog, he stopped and went in the direction of the wall that he could see near the devils. He moved soundlessly while crouching and tried to hear any other sound, but to no avail.

When the devil started to go away, Ye Yan followed them moving close to the wall to make it difficult for him to be detected. They entered the camp and walked further inside. When he got to the entrance, he didn't saw anyone guarding it, so he entered and hide behind some bushes and started to look around to see exactly where he is and if he could find the people that were kidnapped. The fog was almost nonexistent inside the camp, making it possible for him to see around the place. What he thought was a stonewall of a building, in truth, was the wall of a dry gorge. Inside the gorge have some tents and in the central part of the camp, there is a big cage with about twenty people inside, 7 humans, 4 half-elvens, 2 tigerman, 4 dwarves, and 3 halflings.

He analyzed everything so he could decide how to act. This time there are fifteen [Legion Devil]'s, which means that he will have to defeat forty-five devils in total. This place is not like the village that the devils would separate and be far enough from it other for them to hear anything. Ye Yan found a strategic location near the entrance where the fog was thick and waited for only one devil to get near enough for him to bait him with a pebble. After about ten minutes, he got to make one move in his direction alone and enter the fog.

They started to fight and luckily the others didn't hear them. Ye Yan used the same techniques that he used before and just deflect the attacks without dodging them. He tried to use the devil as a training partner while there is only one, so he could fight better later when he would be more used to this type of fight where his objective was not only attacking them but hitting as fast and as many times as possible. When the devil finally used the [Summon Ally], Ye Yan stopping the training and started to get serious, he activated [Luck Hit] so he could finish the battle as fast as possible. As the cooldown of the skill is very long, he will only get to use it one time for battle maximum.

He got to kill them one at a time until the eighth because later they started to walking in pairs inside the camp. Ye Yan decided that he should just take 2 at a time now because he only has five more hours of gaming before being forcefully disconnected for reaching the maximum time of gaming permitted and he would be punished if that happens too.

He started the battle with two this time and focused in one until he and his summons were dead, so he would have to fight with four maximum. When the first devil summoned two more to the battle, Ye Yan couldn't dodge them as well as before, so he had to drink two novice healing potions during the battle and now he only has seven more potions for him to use. He started to get used to the battle and dodge better, even doing a cartwheel to dodge and hit the four at the same time. It was a fest of -1 damage. And Ye Yan decided he should look for equipment that suited more his fight style.

When he killed the Twelfth devil, just 3 more remained and he had to fight them at the same time. The fight was extremely difficult when the first devil summoned two more, totaling five monsters. Ye Yan used every move he knew would be effective in the fight to helping him dodge and hit more than one devil, like moves that could hit them but don't knock them back because it is ineffective with the low strength of his character. In this fight he had to use all the novice healing potions he had, leaving not even one.

When the last demon fell, Ye Yan breathed a sigh of relief. He deserved a very delicious dessert today after all the work. Even in the game, he could feel his stomach growling from hungry and he started to think about food, a lot.

The devils up until now only dropped mother-in-law's tongue, but the last three dropped very good items.

Ye Yan looked at the items but when he looked at the headband appearance and description, it burned his eyes and his hands trembled. The item is extremely good and it probably only dropped because it was part of an S difficult quest, but to equip such an item really can hurt the heart. He decided to keep it in his bag and only use it if he really will need the extra strength and defense.

He used the key to open the cage and free the NPCs. They thanked him and some asked for help to find the way out of camp, while the 2 Tigerman were kicking the devil's dead bodies to vent their hatred. He continues to speak with them, but he didn't know how to ask if some of the humans are the family members of the drunkard. It's not like he can just say "Hey, any of you are the wife and child of a drunk man in the Tuvas Village?".

Ye Yan leads them to the array at a very slow pace because he needs to follow the footprints and some didn't want to hold hands as a precaution for them do not to get lost in the fog.

They finally arrived at the array location and they almost fought to be the first to pass through it, making Ye Yan act like a school teacher and ordering them to form in a queue, so they could enter orderly. This array is different from the others that he used before because it is only 1 meter wide and only 2 people can pass at a time.

After everyone passed, was Ye Yan's time, and even feeling a little nauseous, he felt much better having gotten out of that place.
