And now? In just two days, they’ve ended up behind bars, all for crossing Finn Lewis. For the first time, they were engulfed by a profound sense of powerlessness. Initially, they even scoffed at and looked down upon him. Looking back, they must have been the butt of his jokes. Despite being of the same age, why were the differences between them so vast?
The entire Davis Clan wouldn’t be sleeping tonight.
Once back in Celeston City, Finn had another matter to deal with — Emma Lewis’s birthday party. He had initially agreed to go, but after confessing his feelings for Kay Lee in front of all the news media, what role was he supposed to play at Emma’s house now?
Since he made the commitment, it wouldn’t be right to back out, would it?
After much hesitation, Finn decided to call Emma.
The scene before the birthday party involves a cyber warfare between the protagonist and Zero, messing with the whole Belmare Country and selling a lot of blueprints to the Flame Nation to further strengthen them, earning a lot of points in return.
“Wow, you are still willing to call me.” Emma, naturally, had seen the whole incident but surprisingly wasn’t upset. In fact, she had been emotionally prepared for such scenarios. She hadn’t expected Kay Lee, but other women in Finn’s life were not a surprise. After all, it was unbelievable for the world’s wealthiest man to have just one woman. No one would believe that.
Originally, Emma thought the woman was Fishy Wells. But later, Emma learned that Fishy was still innocent, and it was through Fishy that Emma learned much about Finn. So, Emma wasn’t surprised by this development and was even joking with Finn, which took him by surprise.
Letting Emma go to work seemed to be the right decision, otherwise, anyone idle at home would end up overthinking stuff.
“Are you calling to tell me that you’re attending my father’s birthday party?” Emma asked, shrugging her shoulders.
“Erm, since I made a promise to you, I’ll go.” Finn stuttered a bit and then asserted confidently.
“Really?” Emma questioned, somewhat surprised.
“Of course, a man’s word is his bond.” Finn declared firmly.
“Oh, please! You don’t have to come. If you do, are you causing trouble or celebrating my father’s birthday?” Emma flatly rejected the idea.
“Er, as you say then.” Finn pondered and understood her point. If he hadn’t made those declarations public, it wouldn’t have been such a problem to attend the party. Some people would know what was going on, but it wouldn’t have been a major issue.
“Finn, you’re such an asshole. It’s clear to see that you’ve no sincerity!” Emma lashed out.
“Look, I said I would attend, and you said it would cause a commotion. I agreed not to go, and you called me an asshole. What exactly do you want?” Finn was speechless.
“Can’t you shy away for once and firmly say that you’re going?” Emma huffed.
Finn was taken aback. Was there any difference? “Fine, let’s go over this again.
“Forget it, you were never planning on coming. I’ve got work, so I won’t hold a grudge if you don’t come. Besides, attending might stir up other issues, and I might as well go back alone.” Emma replied and changed the topic.
“Yves King isn’t causing any troubles, is he?” Finn switched topics instead of dwelling on the previous issue.
“What sort of trouble could he cause? Ever since that incident, he hasn’t bothered me. I bet you scared the wits out of him. He’s just a coward.” Emma scoffed contemptuously, “Alright, enough chit-chat. I’ll call you if anything comes up. I’ve got to go; I’m at work.” Emma ended the call abruptly.
Finn paused when he heard the disconnected tone. He smiled wryly. Although he hadn’t spent much time with Emma and didn’t know her well, he had a pretty good grasp of her character. She was prideful and stubborn but today he discovered another side to her.
It seemed that there were brilliant women in this world, and Finn had encountered quite a few. Olivia had done a thorough investigation of Emma’s family business. They were involved in real estate development with a massive construction company on their side, undertaking many large-scale infrastructure projects domestically and several in Liga State. They also ventured into the heavy machinery manufacturing industry.
With assets ranging between 40 to 60 billion Flame Nation coins, it was certainly a formidable group.
“Olivia, do we have any dealings with the Lewis Family’s businesses?” Finn decided to address the issue. Since he had promised Emma, it wouldn’t be right to go back on that. Even though Emma had verbally discouraged him from attending, it was still an agreement that men couldn’t renege on. So he decided to attend her father’s birthday party. If Emma invited him, it implied that the birthday party was not strictly a private affair.
“Yes, the recently transported engineering equipment to the other dimension was purchased from the Lewis’ enterprises. They offered a very competitive price. Besides, I think you should consider moving to a new residence. I’ve detected many journalists and people with hidden motives around our current location.” Olivia suggested.
“The Lewis Family has a large construction company, right? Why don’t we give this project to them?” Olivia proposed.
“What project? Building a villa?” Finn scratched his head. Initially, living here seemed like a good fit, but now it definitely wouldn’t suffice. Although Finn had transferred quite a lot of his assets into the hands of the T2500 intelligent robots, his personal assets amounted to over 60 billion federal coins.
As the founder of Moon of West Lake, many people would be visiting Finn in the future. Although many had tried to visit already, Finn had been turning them down. He couldn’t avoid them forever, so his current residing place was far from aligning with his status.
“A villa, sir? That hardly suits your status.” Olivia quickly suggested.
“Alright, what do you think we need then? How about a private western-style estate?” Finn mulled it over and nodded, feeling that he had nothing to lose. After all, he’d wasted lots of money before; why not do it again? He’d just earned a whopping 24 billion federal coins – money that just sat around.
