Chapter 148 The Old Capital
"So it's him?"
Ajax raised his eyebrows as he asked.
"There's no mistaking that, right? Did you personally confirm it?"
As he asked, Zeshion turned to Vermeil and nodded. Seeing his signal, Vermeil opened the door leading to the room, and six girls entered slowly. Each of them had overly tense expressions as they faced the pressure of the four god tamers together.
"These here are the proof you wanted. The first three in front are his tamed beasts, while the three at the back are the ones who got into a Servant Contract with him."
At Zeshion's words, both Ajax and Blanc turned to Wan Li, Wan Er, and Ying Yue at the same time. The three girls' shoulders twitched as they felt a wave of energy sweep over them.
A few seconds later, Ajax snorted as he turned away, while Blanc just smiled.
"Hmph! I don't know what a Servant Contract looks like, but I see that they are still tamers despite looking like monsters."
"Ajax, watch your words. You're hurting the poor girls' hearts."
Vermeil let off a violent atmosphere as she glared at Ajax. The person in question just kept his mouth shut as he looked away, acting as if nothing had happened.
"Cool down, Raven. It's your turn to speak now."
Zeshion tapped her shoulder as he smiled gently. Vermeil looked back at him for a few seconds before sighing. The pressure she exuded quickly returned to normal.
"Right. When I went to where Ember, one of Will's tamed beasts, pointed as his location, I found myself in an old fortress."
Vermeil announced as she quickly took out a map of the country and the surrounding areas. Most of the map was covered in black, though, depicting the areas dominated by Demons.
"He should be around here, based on my estimates. He's escaped by himself, so he must be somewhere further, though."
She pointed at the red area marked on the map. Then she circled the red area and the few black areas around it.
"The Old Capital?"
Blanc muttered in surprise.
The Old Capital was collectively known as the "previous" capital of their kingdom before they lost their name and a large part of the territory. It should be infested by 9th-stage demons and treated like their playground now.
"If it's there, is he still alive now?"
Ajax asked seriously.
He knows that Will was barely at the 5th level, meaning he should be helpless against such powerful demons. Zeshion quickly corrected his perception.
"Agor is there, so he must've pushed the 9th-stage demons away from their hideout. You know how resourceful that man is."
Hearing this, the three others quickly donned dark expressions. It hadn't even been two months since he escaped from prison, and now he was already able to push back 9th-stage demons.
If he were on the side of justice, then he'd definitely be a powerful ally. As an enemy, he's nothing but a headache. Memories of their battle to capture him a hundred years ago resurfaced in their minds.
"That means this area is safe... But if Will ran past the red area and into the black..."
Vermeil frowned as she imagined it happening.
"That's it for me. Any questions?"
She scanned the faces of her colleagues, but none of them raised any objections. As she was about to return the lead to Zeshion, Ember suddenly raised her voice.
"Wait, Goddess Vermeil."
She bravely strode forward as she gripped her fist tight in front of her chest.
"Please let us come with you to save Master too!"
"Hah! You'll just drag us down! Why would we even bother?"
Ajax quickly chided her. However, Ember didn't back down and stared straight into Vermeil's eyes. Seeing Ember's determination, she just sighed before smiling brightly.
"Of course we will bring you. Why else do you think we allowed you into this room?"
She glanced at Zeshion, who was nodding his head in agreement. This sequence of events was already predicted by Alpha and was told to Vermeil by Zeshion. Alpha even emphasized that bringing the girls along is essential to saving Will. Even if Ember hadn't raised her voice, Vermeil would have just told them to come along.
"What?! Are you two serious? Who's gonna babysit them? I won't do it, I tell you!"
Ajax shouted in dissatisfaction. Blanc was about to volunteer herself, but before she could, Zeshion had already announced his intentions.
"I will. I probably wouldn't be able to move when we reach there anyway. If I move, then Agor would be forced to move too after all."
Among the Demon Tamers, only Agor could fight Zeshion and not lose. So Zeshion joining the fight would only make it more chaotic and unpredictable.
"So I'll watch over the girls while you guys fight. I'll immediately step up if you're dying or something, so don't worry."
Zeshion added with a refreshing smile. Ajax, who noticed what his words implied, quickly rebutted.
"Where are you looking at when you say that?!"
"Amongst us, only you experience being on the brink of death at least once a month. Who else do you think Blue was talking about?"
Vermeil sneered as she insulted Ajax. It was a fact, though, as he was someone who frequently needed healing from others. Amongst the god tamers, only he and Blanc meet frequently to get healed.
However, it was an obvious consequence, as he was always actively fighting 9th-stage demons day in and day out. Ajax and his god-level monsters are responsible for defending almost half of the entire kingdom. Without him sacrificing himself, demons would have long since trampled the whole country.
Now, he was forced to leave his post, so his tamed monsters that were on their rest periods were forced to fill up his spot. Zeshion even had to send two of his tamed monsters too, just to make sure that nothing unexpected happened during his absence.
"Everyone, enough talk; let's get going."
Blanc sighed as she urged Vermeil to open the gates.
An instant later, the entire wall before them turned into a portal that exuded blue light. Vermeil quickly went to the other side, followed by Ajax and Blanc. Zeshion looked at the girls, waiting for them to enter.
Ember, Fang, and Igni hardened their resolve as they took a step forward, vanishing into the blue portal. Wan Li and Wan Er held hands as their tails waved, jumping into the portal right after Igni.
Ying Yue had a complicated expression before releasing a long sigh. She walked to the portal and entered as if she were unwilling to do so.
As everyone had already gone to the other side, Zeshion entered too. A moment later, the portal vanished, leaving the meeting room completely devoid of signs of life.
