Chapter 78: This Fight Will Never End
Chapter 78: This Fight Will Never End
Shiing!
The long sword cut through, slicing Liu Ji's body diagonally in two.
Liu Ji didn't care though. His upper body, still airborne, threw a punch at the black-armored commander's face.
Unfortunately, this amateurish punch was easily dodged, and the commander countered with another swift stroke, further slicing Liu Ji into four.
The next moment, the dismembered pieces of Liu Jiu suddenly vanished and, with a flicker, reappeared behind the black-armored commander, fully intact and launching another punch.
Yet, as if already anticipating this move, the black-armored commander effortlessly dodged again and countered with a click that sent Liu Ji flying.
As he flew through the air, Liu Jiu's body flickered, and he reappeared once more between the black-armored commander and Yaine.
Scrutinizing the black-armored commander, Liu Ji felt annoyed. This was clearly a high-level enemy, vastly different from the previous simple-minded brutes. Liu Ji was outclassed in terms of combat skills and reaction speed. After several rounds of exchanging blows, Liu Ji hadn't landed a single hit, while he himself had been sliced up many times over.
If it weren't for Mr. Myza's cheat-like research, no amount of lives would be enough for Liu Ji.
Yaine, on the other hand, was bewildered. She felt her heart nearly stop when the commander first sliced Liu Ji in half. But the very next second, Liu Ji had reassembled himself and tried to strike back.Though he missed and was slashed once more.
He was sliced vertically the first time, horizontally on the second. Still, he reassembled almost immediately, leaving Yaine dumbfounded.
She couldn't be faulted for reacting in such a manner. After all, this kind of bizarre technique was possibly unique to Myza, who couldn't leave the desert. Liu Ji, with his own special ability, had benefited from Myza's research, allowing him to gallivant the world with this body.
Yaine had never seen or even heard of such an ability before. Even pure elemental spirits would dissipate when disturbed by foreign magic or hit with an opposing element.
As for that black-armored commander…
Yaine recognized it. The lowest-ranking commander in the Tyrant's army, typically leading large platoons or elite squads. Such commanders were equipped with heavy armor, a powerful magic-resistant cloak, and a greatsword imbued with chaos magic.
There were races that could resist physical slashing, but this sword's attacks weren't just slashes; they carried the effect of chaos magic—devouring and destroying life force. Many races suffered greatly when they first faced these commanders.
The fact that this attack was ineffective against Liu Ji was astonishing.
Fortunately, Liu Ji was managing to hold him off. After a final glance at the two continuing their seemingly futile battle, Yaine took a deep breath and focused on her spell to locate their companions.
The black-armored commander's cloak could counter three strong spells in a short time. To break through it, Yaine needed to cast four spells in rapid succession, with the final one being especially powerful.
This meant that the best way to deal with it would be to cast three mid-level spells followed by a high-level one, where the chanting had to be adjusted accordingly to finish in the exact order and period.
Just thinking about it gave Yaine a headache. She could do it, but if she started chanting, the commander would likely target her, and Liu Ji wouldn't be able to stop him.
Yaine reckoned that even her own teacher might struggle having to deal with close-ranged attacks of such a high-level enemy while casting complex spells.
Thus, the best strategy was to gang up on the commander, breaking his cloak, so she could finish him off with a powerful spell.
So, for now, Yaine would act less conspicuously while trying to detect traces of the others first.
"Damn it. Where did all of you run off to?" muttered Yaine. "Don't get yourselves killed, y'all."

Clang!
The female knight's shield parried the gray knight's longsword and countered with an upward slash that forced the latter back several steps.
She pressed her attack, stepping forward with a shield bash. The gray knight managed to block, but stumbled and nearly fell.
Before he could recover, the female knight's next slash was already upon him. He raised his sword in a desperate block, but the impact knocked the weapon out of his hands, and it was sent flying.
A thrust followed. The gray knight barely raised his shield, only to see a sword arc around it, slicing through his elbow joint.
Effortlessly, as if cutting through butter, the female knight severed her foe's forearm and shield. Blood sprayed as the limb fell to the floor.
Stumbling back, the gray-armored knight reached for his fallen sword, but his opponent gave him no chance. Her footwork was precise, following him like a shadow. Her next strike crippled his left leg, leaving him immobile.
Falling to the ground, the gray knight tore off his shoulder guard, using it as a makeshift weapon.
"You bunch of soulless monsters are just infuriating," the female knight spat, her voice dripping with disdain. Without hesitation, she swung her sword again, severing the gray knight's remaining arm.
Yet even with both arms gone, the gray knight continued to flail his stumps, his face blank and devoid of emotion, struggling uselessly.
Reduced to a pathetic, writhing form, he resembled a grotesque worm squirming on the ground, evoking both pity and disgust.
The female knight gazed at him, sighing deeply. She raised her sword high and whispered, "May you find no peace in the light."
With a swift motion, her sword descended, a brilliant beam of light falling upon the gray knight. In mere moments, his body disintegrated like melting snow, leaving only a pile of bones behind.
The female knight flicked her sword, the blood evaporated from the blade in a flash of light. She sheathed her sword and crushed the bones underfoot. Then, she turned and gently lifted the injured Girunini, carrying her over to Osar.
Seeing her gravely wounded comrades, she sighed softly. "Sorry I'm late…"
She then began to sing a soft hymn. White feathers from the sky floated downward, tenderly caressing their wounds and healing them.
At that moment, a small magic circle floated to her side. The female knight glanced at it and smiled. "Yaine? Thank goodness you're safe. Wait for me, I'll be there at once…"
