The Invincible Full-Moon System

Chapter 1134: Heart Break

It was like thunder exploding directly beside the ears.

Calidora's declaration caught everyone who was around in a petrifying trance of shock.

Nobody was immune to this as it was a declaration that came out of nowhere.

Or at least, from their perspective, it came out of nowhere.

Kyran couldn't process—and wrap his head around what he had just heard but he saw Flunra make his move to aid Calidora, who was in distress, carving a reverse pentagram mark on his palm with his own blood, and blasting the cursed barrier that blocked the door.

Holding nothing back, he obliterated the barrier that ensnared Calidora, into oblivion.

He did it with a simple, yet powerful slash.

As the barrier exploded with torrential force of energy, Evelyn was thrown back hard.

But as the situation receded, Evelyn saw Flunra standing beside Calidora.

He caught Calidora before she could fall to the ground.

Soon the words that came out of Calidora's mouth settled inside Evelyn's mind, and her gaze contorted into a gaze of shock and betrayal, "No... This can't be hap-" Bitting her lower lip in utter frustration, she looked at Calidora helplessly. "She can't be pregnant. It must not be his"

Despite being in denial, her body trembled with the weight of the unbearable, possible truth.

Her mind, a tempest of anguish, and disbelief, struggled to come to terms with the revelation that had just torn through the fabric of her existence. Even now—the truth hung heavy in the air like a heavy shroud.

Upon hearing the commotion, a lot of people rushed into the wing courtyard.

Amongst them were Adhara, Gistella, and Rex himself.

Each one of them looked ahead and realized that something had happened to Evelyn.

She was kneeling on the ground with devastation palpable on her face.

It brought up questions, but the three were rooted in their spots.

As Evelyn's gaze fell upon Flunra, a surge of agony gripped her heart with merciless claws.

It felt like her soul was being torn apart with its cruel irony.

How could she have been so blind to the deceit that had wept beneath their camaraderie?

"Did you know that she was pregnant with Rex's child?"

"With my Alpha's child?"

Accusations burned on her lips, poised to shatter the fragile veneer of their shared history.

Flashes of memories of when Flunra advised her with a lot of things to become a better Luna—the care and respect that he showed even though he was an enemy once, it all blitzed past her mind as she looked at Flunra directly in the eyes.

It made her pause, struggling to hold in her emotions.

Evelyn's lips quivered, and her eyes were watery—but no tears came out.

She struggled to say the next confrontational words.

"The man that I love...?"

However, even as the words formed, she knew deep down what the answer was.

And it would only serve to deepen the chasm of betrayal that yawned between them.

Despite having to be in this exact position in the past, seeing countless Lunas being severed from their position by a newcomer countless times throughout thousands of years, the sight of Evelyn breaking down was a hard sight to see.

It messes up with Flunra's emotions, struggling to keep his stoic expression.

Surprisingly, his eyes mirrored Evelyn's with a watery sheen.

Gulping down his saliva through a dry throat, he nodded heavily in confession, "Yes."

Instantly after Evelyn heard the confession, she closed her eyes as a single tear—crystalline and achingly poignant, traced down from each of her eyes, a silent attestation to the pain of the heart that already consumed her whole.

Evelyn fell down to her knees and clasped her heart as her entire world shattered.

She began sobbing profusely as the pain she was feeling toppled over any pain she ever felt.

A pain so bad that it felt like her heart was stabbed multiple times by a jagged sword.

"I began to like you. Rex begins to like you." Evelyn mumbled heartbreakingly.

Listening to her, a confession of its own, Flunra lightly shook his head, "It's the tradition..."

"A guardian such as me should never meddle in the struggle for the Luna's position, I am not allowed... my position is not high enough to interfere in such a high-position confrontation. I am trained—and indoctrinated to merely be a means for survival for the Prince and all those he holds de-"

But before he could finish his explanation, Evelyn quickly cuts, "No, you're family!"

Upon hearing this, Flunra's body trembled as he was silenced.

"You are not a tool, you are not Arnulf anymore..." She added with a lilting voice.

Finding no strength to hold back her tears, she bent down and pressed her forehead against the floor. It was too much to bear. Even though Flunra might know late, had he told her about this, she wouldn't be humiliated by Calidora like this.

Her plan wouldn't be crushed like this.

It was her coronation day as Empress, but she was greeted by this devastating news.

More importantly, this is about loyalty, and that is what hurts the most.

As Evelyn's words sank in, painting a grim picture of the event unfolding, Adhara's expression turned pale. With wide strides, she reached Flunra and gripped his shoulder, her face twisted with anger, "She can't be telling the truth, can she, Flunra? Tell me that Evelyn is lying!!"

Boom!!

Violet flames exploded, shaking the castle itself with its might.

One could see the entire place was tainted with a purple hue because of the flames.

Despite Adhara's burning grip sinking and scorching his skin, Flunra remained rooted in place as he was unsure—of what to feel. He was taken aback by what Evelyn said—and heavy guilt began to gnaw at him from within.

Seeing that he was unresponsive, Adhara grabbed him by the collar, "Answer me!!"

Meanwhile, realizing that the situation was getting out of hand, Kyran shook his head.

Calling for Gelmar, Dindora, and Linthia, he alongside the three of them, escorted the people out of the wing courtyard—and told them that the banquet for tonight was over. It would not be a good idea to let them watch any longer.

Even though the night should've ended on a good note, there was no helping this.

As everyone's attention was on the unfolding scene, he decided to deal with other matters.

Meanwhile, Gistella was also having the same devastation.

Upon learning the fact that Calidora was pregnant with Rex's child, her heart was broken.

In a meek demeanor, she grabbed Rex's hand and squeezed it firmly.

"Please, be good to Adhara and Evelyn. Calidora is the only one who they don't like. I vow to be better, I will do anything you ask, and put more effort into ensuring Adhara, and Evelyn do not anger you," She pleaded, tears streaming down her face. "You can even vent your anger, and frustrations on me if it helps you treat them better,"

"Just... please. Calidora wants to take you away from us," She added finally.

Listening to this, Rex was at a loss for words.

He has always been bad with the sight of women crying, as he always felt his heart breaking whenever he saw his mother cry in the past. To think that he would see Evelyn, Gistella, and Adhara all crying at the same time was beyond him.

Even Gistella's words pierced his heart as they depicted the gravity of the situation.

"Don't say that, it's not your fault," Rex assured, pulling her into his embrace.

Burying her face on Rex's chest, Gistella exploded in tears as there was no other way to out her troubled emotions other than this. On the other hand—Rex looked at Calidora with clear confusion in his eyes.

I had only kissed her once, nothing more than that. So when...?

Recalling back to possible times that this might've happened, Rex eventually frowned.

Since there were hardly any times that Calidora could use to do this to him, he recalled that the most plausible time was when he went to Calidora's chamber to give her some blood to pay her for helping and letting him stay.

A perfect time before the Hare Moon when Rex was at his most vulnerable state.

She prepared her chamber for his arrival with runes and formations.

Not to mention, Calidora was seducing him back then.

It must've been then. I don't even remember what happened after I lay down on the bed.

Releasing Gistella when he realized that Adhara, was going to go berserker in a moment, and needed his intervention, Rex heads over to intervene in the escalating situation. He was calm on the outside, but his heart raced with urgency.

Not only because of the situation but also the fact that Calidora carries his child.

Despite the method, it was still undoubtedly his child.

Upon reaching Adhara, he stood and looked at her without uttering a single word.

He paused briefly before speaking, his tone firm yet understanding, "That's enough, Adhara. I know what you are feeling right now, but I can explain. Flunra is not in the wrong, so spare him your anger,"

Hearing this, Adhara gritted her teeth as her eyes flickered in anger.

Eventually, she pulled away from Flunra and Calidora despite her extreme reluctance.

She was furious at both of them, the same as Evelyn.

Maintaining a composed demeanor, Flunra turned to Calidora whom he was supporting, and asked, "Are you hurt anywhere? And the child—how is it? How can you be so reckless to get reduced to this state, you Vampires could only be pregnant once,"

"Evelyn tried to take my curse away with the help of the Witch, I didn't know," She replied.

Calidora's voice was light and weak.

On the side, Rex was about to calm Adhara down who was still struggling to calm down.

But when his hand reached out to her, she slapped it away and stormed off.

Even though Rex had a strong explanation for how this happened—as it was not consented, the fact that Calidora, carries his child couldn't be undone. Knowing Rex—he also would not go as far as aborting the child.

It was known that Rex was quite soft to kids.

Now that the kid in mention is his own kid, there's no way he would abort the kid.

Observing her retreat into the building, trailed by Gistella who chose to follow, Rex let out a sigh. He made to attempt to halt them; they likely needed time to digest and return to their usual selves, if that is even possible.

Nevertheless, he knew that it was all up to him to make things right, somehow.

Rex doesn't know how right now—but he's determined that he would figure it out.

Exhaling heavily, he eventually glanced at Calidora.

A million emotions could be seen flashing inside his eyes as he viewed her, and there were a lot of things that he wanted to say—but he refrained from saying anything, except the most important question, "Is it true? Is it really my child?"

Upon hearing this, Calidora was silent for a couple of solid seconds.

"Yes, and I know you know I'm telling the truth," She replied.

Despite the suddenty of the revelation, Calidora was right, Rex could tell that it was his child considering the inexplicable pull he had to Calidora recently. Now—it made sense as it turns out, she was the mother of his child.

Instead of relief, Rex's expression tightened as he remembered the recent great battle.

Calidora was there, and his body burned in anger upon that realization.

Even though he was extremely angry at Calidora—for putting herself in jeopardy—he showed immense control over his emotions and nodded lightly instead. He felt stupid for not realizing it sooner, but here they are.

Hiding his clenched fists by folding his arms, Rex pivoted his body away.

"Bring her to the castle and have her checked," He commanded.

Flunra nodded in obedience and brought Calidora into the castle to have her assessed.

The child inside her belly is the utmost priority.

Nezera comes out from the building and rushes towards Calidora, helping Flunra to carry her.

As all people disappeared, leaving Rex standing in the open space—a devious aura began to surface around him as he turned to the side, looking directly at the Witch of Chaos who was hiding in the shadows.

"Don't even try, you won't get far..."
