The Legendary Junkmaster

Chapter 140: ANT-V (5)

Chapter 140: ANT-V (5)

Naomi Jefferson let out a long sigh as she ran her hands through her long black hair in frustration! 'Idiots! If this kid from the Empire really is a Junkmaster, then we need to take care of the threat!' She slammed her fist into the wall next to her as she glared at the floor. 'Why won't the Alliance's council give me the green light!'

"Don't be too hard on yourself, Naomi. You have to remember the fiasco that occurred when we mistook that fellow called Sentinel for being a Junkmaster." Michael Ballinger let out a soft smile as he looked at his subordinate.

"Sir! Don't they understand what it means if the intelligence is true?" Naomi's face became twisted as she glanced sideways at him.

"Of course they do. But they're also wondering if we can trust an old prophecy. For all we know, the one who gave us this warning could have been lying. I mean, have you ever heard of anyone else who could see the future beyond a few days?" Michael raised an eyebrow as he met her gaze. "Think about it. From their point of view believing in these 'Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse' sounds ridiculous."

"Even if there's a slight chance it could be true, don't you think we should act on it? There are so many lives at stake! All of our efforts. Our ancestors' efforts. Is all to stop something like that from happening again!" Naomi's tone reeked of desperation as she pleaded her case. "We've all read the reports of those who survived it! We're just lucky that we got a second chance!"

"Naomi, I know those reports better than anyone. This is why I set up your department in the first place. But the source of this information would have us believe that she is the first horseman. Which puts her at an advantage. It makes our united nations reluctant to start anything with her." Michael shook his head. "This is why I warned you when you took the job to keep an open mind. Don't fixate on it being the truth. Just analyse the intel and see if it's possibly coming true. It won't be too late to act later."

Naomi sighed as Michael bade her farewell before dusting off his suit and heading to his next meeting. She stared after him as if she wanted to say something more, but decided against it. Her footsteps were slow as she walked through the halls of the assembly building. Finding her way back down to her department. As far as anyone but the top brass knew, her department did not even exist.

She slipped inside a storage closet on the second floor before pressing against a hidden door in the wall. Her eyes adjusted to the dim light coming from the wall-mounted lamps that spiralled downwards with the old steel staircase. The stairs led deep underground. To a brightly lit hall where her department was situated. She often found herself wondering if there were other secret departments somewhere above or below her. But that was beyond her pay grade.

As she entered the hall, she took a deep breath. A plaque hung over her head. 'Apocalypse Prevention Service'. Naomi shook her head as she walked over to the glass case that was the first thing that anyone ever saw when they entered the department. Sealed inside was a piece of paper, its words clear for anyone to read.

The Four Horsemen Of The Apocalypse

First will come the Archive. The all-knowing, whose warnings will be ignored by those who matter.

Second will come the Junkmaster. The all creator who will arm those who matter for the war to come.

Third will come the Unbreakable. The all survivor who will haunt their enemies.

Fourth will come the strongest of all. The all controller whose reach extends to everything.

When these four walk the earth, the beginning of the end has already arrived. When these four wage war, the earth will be ready for the second advent...

Naomi stared at this piece of paper every time she entered the department. After ten years it still sent chills down her spine. Many researchers had tried to decipher the text. But most came to the same conclusion. The Archive had to be a power that let its wielder see the past, present and future. It was the only way to know everything. But only the woman who left this behind had ever claimed to have this ability. No matter how hard the Alliance had looked, no Power seemed to even come close to matching her claims.

The second seemed obvious to them. It had to be someone gifted in invention. Although the saying of being the all creator in the text seemed to fall short with every investigation. Sentinel had been the first appearance that could have proven the text as true. However, it was discovered that even he had his limitations.

The third was agreed to most likely be someone with an extremely tough body by the sound of their Power. Though that alone could make them a troublesome problem to deal with.

There had been many speculations about the fourth but there were too many possibilities. They had scoured through lists of known abilities but nothing quite seemed to match. What worried them was that whoever it would be was deemed to be the strongest of the four horsemen.

Of course, these researchers had a number of guesses as to who those who mattered were that were mentioned in the text. Combined with the part at the end it sounded like the four of these individuals would likely be enemies. So they working under the assumption that each horseman would belong to a different nation. Therefore sparking a war as they attempted to tip the scales in the favour of their respective homes.

However, the last part suggested that when they did wage war, a second apocalypse would strike. Naomi stared into space as she thought about her kids back home. 'I won't let it happen...'
