Chapter 346 - Is This A Checkmate?
Quite a massive amount of mana was gathering on the sword, turning them into magical energies.
He had no idea what she was doing, but he couldn't just wait for her to complete what she was planning. He summoned a chakram on his palm, then fired it to Josie Finn. The chakram traverses the space between them in a split second.
But he gawked at the result; that chakram had disappeared like smoke upon reaching her vicinity.
Yman couldn't hide his surprise. 'That fearsome chakram disappeared just like that?' It was truly unbelievable.
"Quite troublesome," he mumbled while squinting his eyes. He sent another chakram, but the result was still the same as the other one. "As expected, those energies are too much for my chakrams," he frowned and exercised his fingers which turned stiff.
He couldn't risk charging in without knowing what she was planning. He had a suspicion that she was planning a super-powerful offensive strike.
Since he could not get careless, he decided to relax his breathing. At any rate, calming oneself was a weapon that could not betray one's trust.
All of the people around were astonished when the one-meter sword in Josie Finn's hands grew tall.
But on second look, it wasn't the sword itself that grew tall. The gathering magical energies formed like an extension of it.
Every onlooker exclaimed in excitement as they felt it wasn't just a simple extension.
"Look, everyone! The sword in Miss Realist's hands transformed into a more overbearing one! It has a smooth and brilliant surface, and magical energies are swirling around it! Just looking at it, I can feel the overwhelming power of it!"
Mora Lizz shouted in excitement.
At first, Yman wondered whether she could lift it at ease, but he widened his eyes when he noticed it was coming in high-speed at him. He could only flee away from his location. His enemy swung the massive sword that is now five times longer than before, without difficulty!
Bam!
That attack caused a long and deep trench on the stage. Luckily, he reacted at the right time.
Yet, before Yman could make an action against it, she was already aiming the sword at him. Another strike was coming!
"Unbelievable!" Mora Lizz exclaimed.
Bang!
"Woah! That almost hit him. Good thing he leaped away at the right time," Mora Lizz continued narrating their match.
But,
"Wha-!?" Yman exclaimed with slightly widened eyes.
Josie Finn was already on his tail. She hasn't given him a chance to regain his ground.
There was a mystical gleam in Mora Lizz's eyes when she held the microphone close to her mouth.
"This is an unexpected turn of events! Contestant Crimson was being overwhelmed without a chance to overturn the situation!" Her voice echoed from the two big speakers that were placed above the stage at the sides of the floating monitor.
Yman continued escaping away from Josie Finn. And Josie Finn was relentlessly chasing after him. At any rate, he must avoid getting swallowed by her momentum.
A high-pitched tone echoed from the two speakers which was followed by Mora Lizz's chuckle.
"Fufufu. How ironic. If before Crimson was trying to close their gap, now he's distancing himself from Miss Realist," commented Mora Lizz.
She was right. The current situation was exactly the opposite of a while ago.
Hum!
The humming sound reached his ears when the brilliant massive sword passed a centimeter away from his hair. He evaded the attack by ducking his head.
"Fuh~!"
A sigh of relief subconsciously departed from his mouth.
But here comes another strike!
He leaped backward. The sword passed below him, almost cutting off his legs.
At that moment of leaping, he threw a chakram to delay her chase. But Josie Finn easily cut it. The chakram split in two and disappeared after getting sliced.
Heh~
She sneered at him. And then she kicked the floor. Her figure shot towards in an instance.
He squinted his eyes. 'This is weird,' he thought.
Although her sword grew longer and bigger, she didn't lose her speed. But instead, she became faster.
Even Yman had difficulty in distancing himself from her. Perhaps the technique she was using wasn't just powering up her weapon but also boosting his stats.
A while ago, when she was still gathering her mana, he heard her whisper the word… Release.
He wondered what she meant by it. But after mentioning it, there was a massive increase in her power.
He guessed it was some kind of sealing technique. Though, as he said, it was only his guess. He wasn't sure about it. Only Josie Finn could tell and those who knew about it.
The effect of it was still vague to him, but looking at her, it must be an all-around boost, not
only to her weapon but also to her body.
If only he knew that she was hiding this kind of trump card, he would try to copy it. But it is impossible now.
Yman's feet landed on the floor and skidded slightly. Without wasting time, he leaped to his right to dodge. The massive sword was swung vertically and sliced him in half. Fortunately, it was only his afterimage.
'An opening!' He yelled inwardly. A raging fist came hastily towards her face. But that opening turned out as a trap.
Guh!
A kick on his gut sent him away. His vision turned blurry in that instance, and there was a noticeable loss in his health points.
His body crashed and rolled on the ground, causing minor injuries at that moment.
Now his health points have 73 percent left. That kick dealt a good amount of damage on him.
Everyone has a different kind of expression. Some were surprised, some fell silent, and some were hype from it.
Damn, he never thought to fall into such an obvious trap. He thought in regret.
He was groaning in pain while trying to get up. But then, he noticed a shadow overcast him. It was coming from behind him. When he glanced behind, he saw a familiar figure.
The black hunter beast! It was raising its front limb. Well, no need to guess what it's gonna do next.
Moreover, in front of him, Josie Finn was raising her massive sword to finish him.
Is this a checkmate?
Most of the onlookers thought so.
