Chapter 102
102 Night Camp
“Meow....”
Kate could sense the coldness that permeated from Kyle’s body. She never had high EQ and probably could be considered pretty low considering that she didn’t like to interact with her friends that much.
But at this moment, she could clearly perceive the coldness from Kyle’s body.
She’s afraid of him.
Yet at the same time, Kate was dependent on Kyle. She knew that this kind of relationship was strange as a human being, but as his ‘pet,’ she really had no other choice.
Slowly, Kate raised her paw and put it on top of Kyle’s fist.
She could sense that his body temperature is low.
So low that it could rival ice.
Kate herself didn’t know what she was thinking at this moment, but she just didn’t want to leave Kyle alone. She wanted to stay with him even though she knew that there was possibility that he will kill her when he knew that she was not actually his little cat.
.....
She’s just his student.
Well, former student.
A person who should have never crossed path with him if only things didn’t change this way and countless giant mutated animals appeared out of nowhere.
“Meow.”
It was a strange feeling.
Kate could see that Kyle didn’t react and felt a bit loss and dejected. Did he not want to accept her because of her truthful answer? Maybe after this mission, he will leave her alone to fend for herself?
The notion scares Kate.
But if Kyle really didn’t want her to follow him, she could only walk by herself in this dangerous world.
She herself didn’t know how she would fare when facing giant mutated animals.
She’s more afraid of Kyle leaving her alone than afraid of his decisiveness and ruthlessness when facing other people.
“...Meow?”
Facing no response from Kyle, Kate was flustered. She felt somewhat dejected and then began to berate herself inside her mind. She truly didn’t know what she was supposed to do.
Kyle watched the dejected little cat in front of him.
He would have never thought of himself as a person who would care for others so much, especially a little cat.
But this cat is different.
So different that even he didn’t know why he didn’t want her to leave him, didn’t want her to fear him. He was trying his best to restrain whatever impulses he had in front of her so that he would not scare her away.
And seeing the cat being afraid of him, he honestly felt that his heart fell.
Probably it was because he hoped more from the little cat.
But even though the cat was afraid, she tried to approach him. With her little paws that seemed so soft that it could break in one touch, she was trying to move forward and looked at him.
Never realizing what kind of dangerous person he is.
Kyle looked at the flustered little cat in front of him and slowly extended his other hand and caressed the little’s cat head. She closed her eyes and enjoyed his touch without flinching back this time.
It seemed that she had come to a decision.
Decision to stay with him and be close to him even though she feared him.
“Little Kitty, I won’t hurt you,” Kyle whispered softly as he hugged the little cat as he would hug a baby. The motion was done carefully to make sure that he would not hurt the little cat in the slightest bit.
“Meow.”
Kate snuggled closer at the familiar warmth. Perhaps, in the past three weeks, she should have known that she would grow closer to Kyle. Habits were indeed very scary and being so dependent on him as a little cat would make it harder for her to leave him alone.
At the very least, she could now stay with him.
He didn’t push her away.
It’s good.
Kyle looked at the little cat in front of him and added in his mind, ‘Since you’ve chosen to stay, I’ll never let you go.’
He was not so kind so as to let anyone who stepped into his territory go away so easily. Since Little Kitty had decided to step inside on her own volition, Kyle simply would never let her go.
She had to stay.
No matter what.
Kyle always knew that he was a possessive person. His mother once worried about it because he had strong possession towards certain items, but Kyle just didn’t want to give what he treasured to others.
And now that this Little Kitty had been included in his treasured possession, Kyle will never let her go.
“Sleep now.”
“Meow.”
Kate responded softly and snuggled close to Kyle.
At the back, Jake was watching them with dumbfounded expression. He honestly had no idea what happened to these two within the short few seconds not long ago. There was clearly nothing here, but he felt that the temperature dropped drastically and then returned to normal.
He looked left and right.
What am I?
What happened?
Am I hallucinating?
All kind of nonsensical thoughts whirled within Jake’s mind as he stared at the pair of cat and her owner in front of him.
After some time, Jake took a deep breath and shook his head.
It was not his business anyway.
...
The night passed by quietly.
The four groups were being careful enough not to meddle with the others because they didn’t want to break the delicate balance between each of them. Even if they couldn’t cooperate together to deal with the giant mutated animals, they had to at least maintain cordiality to travel together.
Having to separate themselves into several groups would be even more difficult as their destination was the same.
And there were still a lot of giant mutated animals on their way.
“Something?” Dylan noticed that there was something off with Kyle when they departed in the morning. It seemed as if Kyle was in a somewhat better mood, yet there was some kind of cold aura around him.
He couldn’t understand.
“He talked a lot of things with Little Kitty yesterday.” Jake thought about what happened and then his expression turned strange. There were not many sentences said by Kyle yesterday, so can it be said a lot?
“What?”
“I’m not sure, but I think it’s something related to their private matter? Maybe they have some quarrels and make up? Or something close to it?” Jake himself was confused.
Dylan arched his eyebrows. He looked in the direction of Kyle but didn’t have the thought of asking more to Kyle. It was because he knew that no matter what, it would be impossible for Kyle to answer private question to him.
He should just think of another method if he wanted to find out.
However, they had no time to care because more giant mutated animals appeared in front of them on the second day.
Swish! Thud!
These giant mutated animals fell one by one as Jake dealt with the metal spears he formed. He frowned. “These giant mutated animals are getting stronger and stronger.”
“Most of the giant mutated animals are now rank 2.” Kyle nodded. “Some are occasionally rank 3.”
“This makes me suspect that among these giant mutated animals, there will be a rank 4 in the future.” Jake clicked his tongue.
Kyle nodded.
The other three teams were also busy dealing with the giant mutated animals. By now, they had also realized that these giant mutated animals were growing stronger and stronger as they approached the location of that granary.
At the side, Lotus bit her lip. “Do you know the reason why these giant mutated animals are getting stronger?”
Petra shook his head. “I thought that there might be something at the granary site that attracted these giant mutated animals.”
“That’s possible.”
Lotus was a bit worried.
In her past life, she didn’t take this mission nor this path at all. It was also because of this that she basically didn’t know that there were a lot of giant mutated animals in this path towards the granary.
When she headed there in the past, the entire place had long been raided.
There were only a few giant mutated animals left.
.....
It was easy to deal even with weaker people.
“Don’t worry, at this level, it will still be easy to deal with.” Petra waved his hand, not caring too much about these giant mutated animals.
Lotus looked at Petra and looked solemn.
She knew his ending.
And the real reason why she chose to join Petra Group was because she knew how strong this Petra would be in the future. Their team also had strong teamwork and would eventually become famous.
She wanted to be part of it.
And in the meantime, stay away from that big villain Kyle.
Lotus would have never imagined before her past life memory appeared that such a gentlemanly person was actually such a big devil inside.
