Chapter 148 Lich's Factory (3)
After aiming with both weapons carefully, Jake then used Mana Blade. Even before he could hit the first target, Jake had already aimed and also fired the next Mana Blades. Before the liches could notice what had happened, four of them had already fallen on the ground, headless. Things were working well for him, but he couldn't get carried away since liches were creatures that usually wouldn't have a lot of defense. Regardless, he had to keep doing what was working.
Jake's plan was rather simple: attack as much as possible with double Mana Blades. Even if the enemy had some defense or equipment to protect them, they were ultimately mages. So, their ability to receive damage couldn't be that high. In any case, the liches realized that a single person was attacking them from behind, and when the seventh of them fell, all of them charged at Jake. It was rather reckless, but it wasn't time to wonder why they were doing that, it was time to keep fighting nonstop.

"This is a lot more than I was expecting, but with this… I don't have to worry about using mana potions.
While moving away, drinking potions, and using Mana Blades, Jake wondered why the liches were chasing him like that. Usually, they would use magic instead of acting like that. Right at that moment, they looked more like enraged monsters than people that sacrificed their humanity for some sort of power. It didn't make sense, so it kept bugging him, even though he didn't want to let that disrupt his focus.
They only changed their approach when they realized that they couldn't run faster than Jake and because twenty of them had already fallen thanks to their folly. The liches finally drew their magic wands and began to fire some purple spheres toward Jake, and he felt compelled to dodge them when his own attacks failed to repel those. The dual mana blades were powerful enough to kill the liches instantly but not to block those projectiles. Their nature was weird, but Jake wasn't a specialist in magic, so it couldn't be helped that something like that would happen against them.
"As expected of those creatures who have such magic power…" Jake thought.
Jake managed to dodge all of the spheres because he focused on that instead of attacking. He didn't know what those could do, so he had to be careful. Even more so because Jake didn't feel or hear anything when they hit the ground. The sound of an impact, the sound of something burning or freezing…
"It is probably a debuff skill that will hinder my mobility…" Jake thought. "I can't let any of them hit me, but I can't focus on dodging forever either."
Jake made up his mind when he found a dark grove ahead. He entered it, and the liches followed him. However, they lost track of him, only to find Jake right behind them. With his swords, he cut the necks of two liches, and with the same motion, he used Mana Blades on the faces of the other two.

When the liches prepared their wands to attack, Jake kicked the bodies of those he had killed toward them, and when they dodged it, they gave him enough time to disappear again. The liches froze on the spot due to the surprise, and before they could recover from it, some Mana Blades flew from the right side of the group and beheaded three other liches. Those creatures quickly turned their wands in that direction and fired their spells. However, ten seconds later, they confirmed that they didn't hit anything because more mana Blades came from another direction.
The same thing happened again and again. In the blink of an eye, only five liches were still standing and trying to kill Jake. At that point in time, he couldn't help but wonder why they didn't try to escape… They couldn't be that stupid.
After a few more tricks, Jake decreased the liches numbers a bit more until only one of them was left standing. Thanks to that, he didn't feel the need to stay hidden anymore. So, he walked toward that guy… The lich tried to hit Jake, but he sidestepped to the sides and dodged them all. Eventually, Jake charged and then hit the lich's stomach with the hilt of his longsword, making that guy gasp for air while he fell to his knees.
"You are going to give me some answers… Is that clear?" Jake asked.
When that lich finally recovered from the attack, it suddenly made a weird movement. Instead of attacking or trying to run away, it tried to spit on Jake's face. That motion had been too obvious, so he managed to dodge, but that made Jake speechless for a moment. In the next, Jake attacked the face of the lich with his knee, and he didn't hold back, so he felt the nose of the lich breaking. When the lich fell with his back on the ground and grunted in pain, Jake made sure to break the legs of that guy. One after the other, in order to make him feel both pains completely.
"It seems that your hatred runs quite deep… And I was wondering why you guys chase me like that," Jake said. "You guys know some humans, right? What did they do to you?"
Despite the pain, the lich kept glaring at Jake as if he was the most hateful enemy in the cosmos as if he had wiped out his entire family while laughing maniacally. Jake felt really troubled by that since he didn't like to be blamed for something he didn't do. Regardless, Jake insisted on asking questions, despite the fact that he didn't like to inflict torture to get the answers. Still, the lich ended up dying instead of doing what he wanted.
