Unlimited Power 03: The Sinful Ruler

Chapter 72 Chance (3)

Jake didn't find an answer to that problem, and when the girls asked him why he was so quiet, they heard of the current problem and tried to come up with a solution as well, but they didn't come up with anything. They didn't give up on finding a solution, though. They just decided to do so while they headed toward the nearest mountain.

Congratulations! The skill Cold Resistance has leveled up.

In just one hour, Cold Resistance had leveled up twice, and while it wasn't much, Jake felt some relief whenever its effects entered into action. He probably could make the skill level up faster if he let the wolves hit him with their Ice Winds, but that was troublesome since his legs would be frozen for several seconds.

"I am feeling a lot better now," Lana said after one of her skills leveled up, and then she increased her willpower.

"I bet we could get rid of this cold immediately, if we could make some coats out of the wolves' fur," Louise said. "It is a pity we don't have the skills for that."

Speaking of skills to do that kind of job, Jake wondered if he could obtain manufacturing classes like Blacksmith, Alchemist, and even Tailor. That would be interesting since the monster's bodies don't disappear immediately…

Frozen Gauntlets

Freezing Touch, +05 strength, + 03 endurance (0%), master this weapon to learn this skill and obtain the status points permanently.

Durability: 15/15

Freezing Touch: It decreases the speed and mentality of foes by three points per level for three seconds when you attack them with these weapons. The effect can stack.

Cost: 05 mana.

Jake's thoughts were interrupted when a snow wolf dropped a pair of gauntlets in the next battle. They were blue and had a crystal-like gem in the center of the palm. It was a pretty cool magic weapon that also had some interesting effects… it was a pity that they required mana to be used. Nevertheless, Jake decided to equip them and master for the status points.

"Are you sure you want to use those against opponents so big?" Lana asked.

"Why not? It will be pretty fun," Jake said.

Lana shrugged since a weapon with zero reaches like that would only make the battle harder… harder for Jake himself since he was the only member of the frontline and had yet to fail in doing his job at keeping the aggro on himself.

When the next group of wolves appeared, Jake didn't hesitate to charge at them. While he couldn't use Mana Blade without a sword, that didn't stop him from attacking all three monsters by using Sonic Punch. Jake hit the side of their faces and immediately stopped their charge.

When all enemies charged at him at the same time, Jake jumped in the air and made their heads collide against each other. As if that wasn't enough, Louise made a fireball explode and burn their faces.

In the next moment, Jake landed on the back of one of the wolves and then began to punch its nape viciously. Every time a hit landed, the creature trembled, and much to Jake's surprise, the monster died, unable to move.

"I heard that attacks on the nape of a person is dangerous… but to think that such effects would be real even in this game…" Jake frowned slightly.

Due to the fact that he was deep in thought, Jake didn't react in time when the next enemy charged for attacking him. However, Lana used Barrier, and she canceled the damage. Using that moment of surprise against the enemy, Jake punched the wolf's chin and made the creature stagger. In the next moment, he punched the monster with all his might and finished it. As for the last one, Louise finished it with her Fireballs.

"You really are something else… punching those things and putting your arms so close to their mouths," Lana frowned.

"Rather than that, did you guys come up with any solution to our current predicament?" Jake asked.

"We finally reached the second mountain, but almost two hours had passed since the start of the mission… at this rate, we will only keep losing time here," Jake said.

"We can always ask Luke for information," Lana shrugged.

"Nah, that guy is too suspicious," Jake said. "Normal people don't smile all the time and are always in a good mood."

"I think that is rather normal," Lana said. "Are you against even buying information?"

"Yes," Jake replied.

"You are such a pain in the ass…" Lana said and then sighed.

"Maybe we should change our approach," Louise said while she was looking toward the mountains in the distance.

"What do you mean?" Jake asked.

"How can I put this…?" Louise replied. "Maybe we are focusing too much on the mountains, just like before, we focused too much on the obvious on the Hellish Desert."

Jake stopped to consider that. It made sense, but would game developers use the same kind of logic on two missions, one after the other? It seemed that she wanted to look for the dungeon in other parts, like in the paths between the mountains. Still, that would mean that the dungeon would be underground…

"Well, we might as well try it since we don't have any other clue," Jake shrugged.

Since they changed their strategy, this time, climbing a mountain and looking at the terrain would be more useful. Still, the wind and snow decreased the visibility more than a little bit, so that would be useless… once again. Still, Jake had a certain idea… they had spawned in a few kilometers away from the closest mountains. Still, there were others behind them, even further away. Jake decided to head in the direction of the starting point, and then he noticed that the number of attacks of wolves was increasing steadily. It seemed that the mountains were only there to fool the players…
