Chapter 1: Nyx?Curse?

Chapter 1: Nyx?Curse?

UoT a prestigious university in Toronto, Canada was known for the geniuses and athletes that it held. Among the crowd walking out, various individuals stood out as one would expect of such a college.

However, one young man did so more than the others, with sharp unusual purple eyes and dark blue hair with a hood and headphones on. Naturally, he attracted many eyes, however, he didn't seem to realize this for he didn't care too much. He was quite lowkey and focused on himself.

Luke Stone, a young man with the title of the "unluckiest man alive" and it wasn't an exaggeration to say that, he once lost a fake lottery which was set up by his friends that had a win rate of 99.9% and a 0.1% chance of losing, of course, this could easily be seen as a coincidence if he lost once but losing 20 times in a row breaks that limit.

Luke only cared for one thing: the new VRMMORPG "Genesis 2076" which had Next-Gen sensors to capture reactions smoothly without any issues and its main theme was centered around mythology, one of the central ones being Greek Mythology.

As he was walking home, he felt a hand on his shoulder, looking back he saw one of the few people he trusted, his close friend Nate.

"Dude I called out to you like, a100 times, you good?" asked Nate, worried whether Luke was sick or something. Seeing him, a smile crept up on Luke's face, "Hey, yeah, I'm good just excited for the launch, so I needed to calm down," he pointed to his headphones.

"Ah makes sense, you've been salivating at the thought of playing the game for practically months, I can't wait to play as well, I think I'm going to choose the Assassin class," Nate said while crouching and pretending to be an assassin.

"Haha, I might try my luck with the unique class lottery, especially since I don't really have any specific pick out of the 5 basic primary classes," Luke said and continued before Nate could react, "I know I know, my luck sucks but let's see, anyway since we have a week off, let's play together tomorrow?"Luke said as he ran off to play Genesis.

"Wait where the f*ck are you going??! we live in the same apartment!!" Nate exclaimed while running behind his friend.

Luke went straight to his room and put on the VR Headset which was required to play the game, immediately his vision turned blurry and soon went dark.

[Welcome to 'Genesis 2076']

[An alternate world where you can either become the cause of order or chaos. There are 5 basic classes one can choose from, however, you can choose to try your luck at the hidden primary class lottery where you're allowed to choose one of the 4 hidden classes IF you manage to beat the odds, that being said, if you fail to acquire a hidden class you will be given a random class from the 5 basic primary classes]

Luke thought to himself as the 5 basic classes appeared in front of him along with an eerie-looking door next to them, he looked at the 5 classes and proceeded to read the information given below.

*

Warrior- A mighty soldier who usually holds a large sword in one hand and a shield in the other. (possible paths- DPS or TANK)

Archer/Ranger- Long ranged bow users who boast tremendous amounts of damage, however, their defense isn't the best as they sacrifice it for movement and freedom. (possible paths- DPS or Scout)

Mage-A master at mystical arts with an arsenal of spells. Usually Mid-ranged as they require time to cast spells. (possible paths - DPS or Support)

Druid- It is said that Druids were once one of the major races before the war as they possessed healing abilities that were unmatched, along with a large number of support spells(possible paths - Healer or Support)

Assassin- Figures that live in the shadows and are masters at evasion and hit and run situations. However, they sacrifice their defense for monstrous evasive and damage-dealing abilities(possible paths - DPS or Scout)

*

The 'possible paths' the system showed are recommended paths or common paths that can be taken by people of each class, Genesis 2076 was an open-world game that took pride in the fact that the game is entirely up to the player, meaning any path can be taken by any class.

Luke knew he was going to go for the lottery but he still decided to read the description of each class. Finally, after reading, he looked towards the door and decided to risk it all by walking through the door.

In front of him was an option that allowed him to try and obtain a hidden class, he saw a wheel which was almost entirely covered in the color red except for the smallest fraction of gold which signified the hidden classes and had '0.01%' written on it, meaning one in every ten thousand people have a 'chance' of getting to choose a hidden class.

He stepped forward to press the button that spun the wheel and the second he did, his vision turned to gold, only after about 10 seconds could he see again.

He could see a tall woman with hair as dark as the night that fell gently over her forehead and reached her waist, she had pitch-black eyes that were enclosed by stars and for some reason, Luke couldn't get himself to stop gazing into them, despite being extremely pale, she was definitely one of the most beautiful people he had ever seen.

However, what confused him was that he never heard of such an NPC in the game, since Luke looked into the game and its terms and gameplay quite a lot, he knew that the NPC in charge of the class selection was an Elf, however, he soon lost any doubts he had when he figured he had better things to worry about.

"Night" He replied

[Choose any one hidden primary class]

-Arcane Knight(Warrior who excels in the usage of the sword and magic, has the most balanced stats of all, with the INT and STR being twice as much as any basic class)

-Berserker(Monstrosity that sacrifices health for damage, begins with lower health than a normal warrior but almost 3 times the damage of any basic class)

-GrandMaster(Weapon master, who can equip any type of weapon by breaking class restrictions, however, they start with half the stats of a basic class)

-Saint(Has a divine gift that blesses anyone who is seen as a friend but brings wrath upon those who are deemed as foe. This class has the highest VIT stat along with INT equaling that of the Arcane Knight class)

Luke already had in mind what he wanted to choose. He stepped forward and clicked on the Arcane Knight, his reasoning behind this was simple, it was the most balanced class of them all with the exception of the Saint class which he didn't want to play, so the Arcane Knight was the only option.

Both the Berserker and the GrandMaster classes were horrible in his view because of the unbalanced stat distribution, especially the GrandMaster, having half the stats of a basic class would make his start game a nightmare.

With Lukes's jaw touching the floor he looked to the NPC for help and to his surprise, the nightmarish beauty was nowhere to be seen, and all he saw was an Elf with a frightened look on her face as she muttered something.

"N-nyx.....Nyx's curse..." she said while falling to her knees.
