Chapter 1551: Death at Falling Goose
Chapter 1551: Death at Falling Goose
Falling Goose Valley was situated between Burning Plains and Wind Forest. Burning Plains were an extremely hot map, but Wind Forest was the complete opposite. Perhaps that was why Falling Goose Valley turned out to be a moderately warm map that a lot of birds loved to inhabit. Bird nests could be seen all over the forest, but it was a surprisingly quiet and peaceful place.
"Withdraw quickly!"
Chaos Moon yelled while heading first into Falling Goose Valley. The Dragonlight Cavalrymen followed closely behind her, and the Dragonlight Archers Far Shot their attacks at the enemy while withdrawing.
……
Right now, Forest Autumn Trail was filled with a cacophony of thundering noises because millions of Chaotic 27 cavalrymen were galloping through it. Leading at the forefront were five Level 255 guild leaders. Despite hailing from different countries, they all shared the same Chaotic 27 nation emblem.
A middle-aged man wielding a halberd sneered. "The Chinese have withdrawn into Falling Goose Valley, and its terrain is perfect to set up an ambush. This is a trap. It would explain why they’ve crumbled so easily despite being the number one guild of China!"
A young sword-wielding guild leader raised an eyebrow and snorted. "Banana Leaf, you are a leader of the Chaotic 27 and one of the ten guild leaders who are currently responsible for leading our main blob, so why are you so timid? Even if Ancient Sword is strong, they are just one guild against our 6 million cavalrymen. Do you really think we cannot beat them?"
"I don’t think it’s safe either…" Not far away, a dark-skinned knightress said with a frown, "They have 3 divine players—Broken Halberd Sinks Into Sand, Legendary Brave, and Lian Xing—and yet they had withdrawn almost too quickly during the previous battles. It’s obvious that this is a trap!"
"Not necessarily, no!"
A young magic knight with a spear chose this moment to step forward and point at the valley entrance. "My five guild leaders, you currently command 3 million cavalrymen and 5 million other classes, right? If you noticed, geese were startled into flight everywhere when Ancient Sword’s men entered the valley. This can only mean one thing…"
"Mean what?" The knightress stared at him.
The magic knight chuckled. "It means that the Chinese can’t have set up an ambush here, or the geese would’ve been startled a long time ago. Now that your fears are assuaged, allow me to remind you that we must pass through this place if we are to invade deeper into China territory. Also, we are millions of players strong. Don’t you think it’s a bit too cowardly to be stalled here by some imaginary fear[1]?"
The sword-wielding guild leader looked up and laughed. "There are countless leaders in the entire Chaotic 27, and yet not one of you is as bold or smart as this young man right here. What a joke! Anyway, feel free to stay behind if you want. We Filipinos are going with or without you!"
He then raised his sword and shouted, "Let’s go! We will pass through Falling Goose Valley at top speed and raid Wind City before the Chinese can react!"
With one guild charging, the snowball followed. Countless players followed him regardless of whether the decision was wise or not.[2]
"Sigh…"
The middle-aged player let out a sigh. "I still don’t think it’s wise, but it’s true that we’ve agreed to cooperate with each other. I won’t be the one to disrupt that unity. Plus, I don’t think even Ancient Sword has the ability to swallow our 6 million cavalrymen[3]! Let’s go! Cut through Falling Goose Valley and shatter the Chinese’s courage! Show them our power by claiming their fertile soil as ours, hehe!"
The words "fertile soil" nearly caused everyone present to salivate. They immediately spurred their mounts forward and charged through the valley entrance. Hundreds of thousands of players were through in just the blink of an eye, and at a glance it seemed like the stream of players would never end!
Falling Goose Valley was shaped like a bottle gourd, so it was fairly spacious at the center. Some Chaotic 27 players actually chose to rest temporarily at the center clearings while their allies continued to flood in.
……
It wasn’t long before the quiet tranquility within the valley was completely shattered by the noise of men. It was irritating to say the least.
Some distance away, I watched the enemy cavalry in silence from atop a peach tree branch.
Li Chengfeng looked at me and asked, "Should we attack now, Lu Chen? At least 2 million people have entered the valley already. If we don’t attack now, their vanguard may exit the valley first…"
However, I shook my head and said, "Patience. If we don’t destroy them all in one go, they will continue to be a threat in this Nation War. Since the Chaotic 27 have made up their minds to stick to the Northern Alliance until the end, we must take them out like Qin took out Wei during the The Battle of Shaoliang. We’ll crush them so hard that the memory will haunt them not just for this Nation War, but for the decades to come. Only then can we truly prevent them from ambushing when we fought against the Northern Alliance."
Li Chengfeng nodded. "Alright, we’ll wait!"
I smiled. "Can’t catch a big fish if you’re not willing to use a long line, man!"
It was at this moment a smiling Lian Xin flew down from the sky and said, "Look, another five guild leaders have entered the valley. I know their status because their IDs are all gold in color…"
He Yi chuckled. "Wonderful. All ten guild leaders are finally present for the slaughter. In fact, these ten people seem like the new persons-in-charge the Chaotic 27 have chosen to lead them. Poor Who Will Fight Me, hmph. To think that they would strip their own best expert of his authority. The Chaotic 27 truly deserve their name[4]."
I clenched my fists and said, "That’s perfect. Kill them all, and our dear friend Who Will Fight Me will surely regain his power! Send out the word to wait for my signal to start the operation 20 minutes later. All Dragonlight Cavalrymen are to be buffed with tactician and bard buffs, and the Holy Mages are to pressure the enemy slowly. Today, we’re going to annihilate their 5 million buffless cavalrymen with our fully-buffed army! Also, remember that the Dragonlight Cavalrymen are to carve up the enemy’s formation as 150,000-man parties. Scatter them all and give them no chance to escape!"
The air was pretty humid, so there was sweat on High Fighting Spirits’ face even though the battle hadn’t begun yet. He let out an honest chuckle and said, "Finally. I love fighting battles where my side has inferior numbers!"
Chaos Moon teased him, "That’s only because you’re serving under a wise general like Lu Chen. Otherwise, I seriously doubt you would like it. If Warsky was the one commanding this battle, he one hundred percent would’ve ordered to attack the enemy on the Burning Plains. We would still win, but it would be one that cost most of our players. This is the difference between Lu Chen and the likes of Warsky and Candlelight Shadow, and…"
She added with a blush, "That's why I like him so much…"
Eighteen Steeds of You and Yun shuddered. "I cannot believe you’re saying this right before the guild leader. I wouldn’t be surprised if you lost your corps commander status by the end of the day…"
He Yi pressed a hand on the Snow Crystal Dragon’s head and said indifferently, "Relax, I couldn’t lower myself to abuse my power for personal benefit even if I tried. Anyway, go get the buffs applied now. We need to reduce our casualties as much as possible since we still have a battle to fight at Fortress of the Iron Halberd."
"Yes, guild leader!"
……
Time passed bit by bit. Everyone was so nervous that the atmosphere felt stifling.
This time, I chose to form a party of my own and buffed everyone’s Attack by 200% with Martial God. The Famous General Skill was very suited for an annihilation battle like this. Our troops were hidden along the edges of the valley. All we needed to do was to charge forward, and the enemy was sure to panic and make this battle even easier. Even if they somehow kept their cool, each one of our players was still worth ten of theirs. This wouldn’t be as difficult as it looked.
Twenty minutes passed in the blink of an eye. The stream of players flooding into the valley from Forest Autumn Trail had finally trickled down to almost nothing, and over 5 million Chaotic 27 cavalrymen had entered our encirclement.
Chiang!
I unsheathed my sword in one ringing motion and shouted, "Now is the time! Ancient Sword Dreaming Souls, attack!"
Battle cries erupted from all over the edges of the valley as my players rushed out of their hiding spots and climbed up their mounts. Then, they began charging down the slopes from every direction!
"Shit!"
A couple of guild leaders turned pale immediately. "It’s a trap! Ancient Sword Dreaming Souls intends to ambush us here!"
The young warrior unsheathed his sword and shouted, "There’s nothing to be afraid of! We can crush any ambush with 6 million cavalrymen! Counterattack and destroy the enemy! We’ll tear their legend down, and create a legend of our own!"
……
Fully-buffed Dragonlight Cavalrymen galloped toward the enemy in one-thousand-man parties[5]. Because they had taken off from the mountain slopes, the increased movement speed made them look like a knife speeding straight for the enemy’s jugular. Leading at the forefront of the charge was of course me, Li Chengfeng, He Yi, Gui Guzi, Chaos Moon, High Fighting Spirits and the rest of our core players. We were the tip of the proverbial knife, and it was our job to punch through the enemy’s shield formation as soon as possible. Otherwise, the cavalry charge could potentially be slowed to a halt, and this battle would become much more difficult than it should be.
Bang bang bang…
On the Chaotic 27’s side, giant shields were dropped on the rocky ground of Falling Goose Valley as a guild leader shouted, "Stop them! Bury these cunning bastards in the graves they dug!"
Swhoosh!
In response, I raised the Xuanyuan Sword and fired Burning Blade Slash straight at them. The fiery skill cut right through a row of shielders and dealt basic hits, critical hits and even sextuple-damage hits. All in all, each shielder lost at least ten million HP from the single skill, stunning the delusional players of the Chaotic 27 into speechlessness. Not a single cavalryman who was struck by my skill survived the attack!
Flying at a low altitude, I fired Thousand Ice Slash next at the center of the enemy’s square formation. Then, I led the thousand-man party behind me straight toward them!
"Stop him! Stop that WEL champion! Trapping Nets, Charge, anything, JUST STOP HIM!"
The enemy commander was clearly panicking and not in the best state of mind. Otherwise, he would’ve realized that the standard Trapping Net rain was almost useless against me. I started zigzagging left and right in an unpredictable fashion to dodge the Trapping Nets and Charges. After diving several hundred meters behind the enemy lines though, I skidded to an abrupt stop!
Unlike the shielders I had killed up until this point, the ones before me were golden in color. I wasn’t expecting to see the Gold Cavalry here!
There were about a thousand of them. The Gold City hadn’t spawned in the Chaotic 27’s territories, so I had no doubt that these were borrowed troops from Hero Alliance. Right now, they were trying to impede my way.
"Stop him!" a Level 255 knight shouted.
I smiled and turned the Death side of my blade upward. Xuanyuan Art!
Countless columns of bloody light rained from the sky and removed 70% HP from all enemies within 1,000 yards of me. The Gold Cavalrymen instantly shuddered with terror!
"Kill!"
I charged toward them and cut them down without any mercy whatsoever.
1. T/N: can’t send a scout either since they’ll just be killed at the entrance. HOWEveR, since they’re going to enter en masse anyway, they could’ve checked the sides with their until they discover ASDS’ hidden army, which I’m totally sure they’re going to do ☜
2. E/N: Unfortunately, regardless of the call, moving united is better than hesitating. Even if the call is shit, it’s better to follow it wholeheartedly than hesitate and keep losing players questioning orders. ☜
3. T/N: you realize it’s dwindled to just 4 million, right? ☜
4. T/N: considering what happened to Lu Chen, truly a pot says kettle black moment ☜
5. E/N: They are moving in troops of 150,000, but individual parties (that are actually sharing stratagem of the leader) are 1k I guess ☜
