Chapter 156 In Return, You Have To Work For Me
Lieutenant General Rivera stared intently at Arlan. The man in front of him was too calm even when they were talking about how to deal with the president. "I know that you have a group of skilled people working for you, Mr. Roa. Please lend them to me for a bit. I need them to capture someone for me."
Arlan chuckled upon hearing this. "You want to borrow my people? General, is the military short on capable personnel?"
Lieutenant General Rivera sighed upon hearing this. "The military has skilled soldiers, but I'm afraid that they are loyal to the president. I can't take the risk of giving this job to them." He shook his head with a solemn look.
"First, can you tell me who you want to capture?" Arlan already knew the answer to this question since Winter already told him about it. However, he still wanted to confirm it.
Lieutenant General Rivera hesitated for a moment, but he still gave in after a deep thought. "I believe you recognize this person." He said as he showed Arlan a picture of someone on his phone.
Arlan adjusted his posture as he stared at the picture. It was Donnyl Lisondra, the former police chief of Taguig City Police Station. Just like what Winter had predicted, the commanding general was also looking for this person. "It turns out that it was this guy..." Arlan smiled mysteriously at the commanding general.
Lieutenant General Rivera grabbed his phone and placed it back in his pocket. "We have been investigating Donnyl for quite some time and we discovered his connections with the president. After some digging, we also found out that he was responsible for cleaning up the president's dirty work. If we have him in our hands, we can bring down President Maracas!" He clenched his right hand as he said those words. During the last few days, he had lost more than ten subordinates just to acquire this information. He didn't want their deaths to be in vain.
While the commanding general was speaking, Arlan received a report from Khalon. "Boss, we have captured Donnyl Lisondra. We will be back within 2 hours."
Arlan's smile deepened when he heard his words from the communicator. He stood up and lit up a cigarette as he said. "General, how about this? I'll deal with the president and get rid of the corrupt government officials under him. In return, you have to work for me."
Lieutenant General Rivera's eyebrows jumped up in shock. "Y-You want me to work for you?" Arlan's words were so ridiculous that he almost thought that there was something wrong with his ears.
Even Krizia who was listening at the side was stunned. She stared at Arlan in disbelief.
Arlan took a puff from his cigarette before he calmly replied. "You didn't hear it wrong. I will deal with the president and his entire faction, but you will be working for me after that..."
The commanding general turned silent at his words.
Arlan continued. "I know that you have been under a lot of stress lately because of this matter and we both know that you are barely holding your ground against him. If it weren't for your soldiers, you would have already died more than a dozen times from all the assassination attempts in the last few days. Even your family is already affected. You should think about their safety, General."
His words were like the final nail in the coffin. The commanding general stared at him with a look of defeat. He stood up and lowered his head. "Mr. Roa, if you can take care of this matter, I'm willing to work for you..."
Arlan grinned as he quickly helped him up. "You can rest assured, General. To tell you the truth, I was already expecting your failure so I made some preparations beforehand."
Hearing this, the commanding general suddenly felt like he couldn't see through Arlan anymore.
Krizia didn't expect that the commanding general of Maharlika's military would actually agree to Arlan's ridiculous demand. 'He looks more like a mafia boss than Paolo De Luca...' She thought to herself.
"Mr. Roa, can you give me a hint on how you will deal with the president?" The commanding general asked.
"About that... it's actually quite simple... We just need to kill him." Arlan said before he blew scented smoke into the air.
Arlan's words made the commanding general furrow his eyebrows. "That is easier said than done. You should know that the Maracas Family have their own private army. There are dozens of bodyguards in the buildings around his office, ensuring his safety twenty-four-seven." He muttered while shaking his head.
Arlan flicked the cigarette butt using his thumb as he said. "Do you really think that his puny security detail can stop my people? I'm preparing for something more terrifying than him. If I couldn't even stop an insect like him, how could I survive the disastrous future ahead of us?"
The commanding general felt a suppressive aura coming from Arlan. Even someone like him who had gone through numerous life-and-death situations felt overwhelmed.
Arlan noticed that he had misspoke so he laughed lightly to ease the atmosphere. "Silly me. Please pardon my nonsense, General."
The commanding general no longer felt the heavy pressure. He thoughtfully stared at Arlan's smiling face.
"General, I'll give you a surprise later, but that will have to wait. Do you still remember the assault helicopter I showed you before?" Arlan said while looking at the time on his watch. There was still slightly over an hour before Khalon and the others returned. He might as well use this time to make the general have a better understanding of him.
Lieutenant General Rivera was taken aback, but he still nodded his head. "I do remember about it, but didn't you say that it would take a long time to create one?"
Arlan chuckled as he put his cigarette on the ashtray. "Follow me. I'll let you see the completed version."
