Chapter 876 Four Pillars: Full Circle (5)
Hopeless.
That was the state the new humans were in after they had succumbed to the might of the three races.
Though they were able to fight back against the other races at the beginning thanks to the level of technology they were able to reach, such a level of technology could only last them for so long.
Aside from that, compared to the three other races on Veldanyr, whose species had unique qualities that allowed them to maintain their dominance one way or another, the humans of the new age only had their ingenuity and creativity going for them.
Of course, this allowed the humans to arrive at the level of technology that they were at.
However, if one were to compare their physical qualities to the other races, they were beaten tens to hundreds of times over.
With that said, once the three other races were able to destroy the technology that the new humans greatly relied on, it was no surprise that the humans immediately lost the moment they thought of fighting against them in close combat.
And thus, what was once Vaughn's attempt at bringing humanity back to their rightful place on Veldanyr, ended up becoming the start of a new era that humanity would remember for years to come.
As Valyr watched the memory gradually shift from its lost history to the part of history that he had knowledge on, the young man sucked in a bit of cold air as he watched the humans be shared among the other races as if they were mere objects.
Once those humans were back in the heart of the territory of the respective races, the leaders among those races immediately began their attempts in extracting as much technological information from them as possible.
After all, even though the humans were physically weaker than the other races, their ingenuity and creativity allowed them to create weapons that brought ruination on the opposing side.
Naturally, the other races wanted their hands on such weapons as well.
Unfortunately for them, rather than tell the other races everything they wanted to know from the humans, the humans chose to remain silent, telling them that they would rather die than spill such information.
Of course, not all humans could be said to have chosen a similar action, with some deciding to share some of the information they knew in exchange for freedom.
However, most of the humans either redirected the other races' attention towards false information or remained silent, prompting the three races to realize that there was another unique quality the humans had that made them stand out.
Their unyielding tenacity.
Because of their tenacity, the existence of the advanced machines the humans used to wield in the past gradually disappeared over the passage of many years.
Though some of the races were able to salvage parts from the territory that the humans once occupied, the humans had already thought about such a scenario a long time ago, reducing all of their technology to mere scraps.
Because of such an action, it could be said that only now was Veldanyr plunged into the actual Age of Darkness.
Though, unlike the darkness that the humans succumbed to after becoming prisoners to the three other races, this darkness pertained to the path to highly advanced technology that had unfortunately crumbled.
Nevertheless, whether or not the Age of Darkness meant one or the other, time continued to pass, with the three races beginning to transform the humans into items that could be integrated into everyday lives.
During the Age of Darkness, the orcs and werebeasts thought of the humans are slightly more useful livestock, having no qualms in turning them into the meal if the situation arose.
As for the elves, though they did not perceive humans as such, they were still treated badly under the elven territory, being pushed to extents that went far beyond what elves would do to their kin.
If one were to ask any of the three races on what they thought about the humans during this period, aside from the differing needs each race had that could be solved by the humans, there was another thing the three races agreed upon regarding their use.
Slaves.
For the next 70,000 years after the advent of the Age of Darkness, the orcs, elves, and werebeasts had their way with the humans, turning them into more or less everything they desired.
From servants to entertainment, to food and pleasure, the three races commonly viewed the humans from that perspective, though there were still a few that thought otherwise.
Seeing how the conditions of the humans gradually began to worsen over those 70,000 years, Valyr was left at a complete loss for words, his only thoughts at that point being to commit most of what he saw to memory.
On the other hand, Vaughn looked at the sight before him with a blank expression.
Then again, if one were to look at him closely, one would see a tinge of remorse evident on the edges of the man's eyes.
At this point, over 150,000 years had passed since the end of the Great Cataclysm, a number that caused the gears in Valyr's mind to halt for a bit when he first heard it.
After all, if he were to add the amount of time he had spent living between his two lives so far, the total would be around the ballpark of 30 years.
When compared to a number such as 150,000, 30 years was only a mere fraction of a percent of it.
"What were you doing while the humans were being treated that way by the other races?" Continuing to watch the three races have their way with the humans for a bit more, Valyr eventually looked at Vaughn as he asked the question that came to mind.
In response, Vaughn let out a long exhale before making a few gestures that prompted the memory's focus to shift.
Whoosh!
Moving away from the general landscape of Veldanyr, the memory soon focused on the Vaughn of the past, who was surprisingly still engrossed in delving through the many secrets the system had yet to show him.
Compared to the Vaughn from before the Age of Darkness, the Vaughn within the laboratory had unsurprisingly regained the drive he had lost while aiding the new humans adapt to Veldanyr.
Aside from that, thanks to the amount of time that had passed, the man now began to give off the feeling of a sage amidst the incredibly austere aura he now began to passively exude.
"I suppose I've spent enough time on my own." Letting out a sigh of relief as he finished another one of his experiments, Vaughn had the thought of taking a look at how the new humans he'd created were faring.
Taking a look at the amount of time that had passed through his Authority stat, the man's pupils shrunk as he realized that he'd left the humans he created for around the same amount of time he was the sole human in the world.
Going through multiple worst-case scenarios in his mind, Vaughn steeled his heart on what he would see after leaving the laboratory.
Only to be greeted by a reality that was tens of times worse than even the worst scenario he'd envisioned.
Seeing the beings he had recreated, the beings that bore the appearance of those who once ruled the planet, be treated by the other races as lesser than even livestock, Vaughn felt something inside him snap at that moment.
Swoosh!
Without warning, the man went on a rampage across the three territories, unleashing the might of a being at Rank 10 as he reminded the three races of the being that once instilled fear into them.
With anger and fury taking over his body, the man lost all sense of control as he sought vengeance, wreaking havoc all over Veldanyr for multiple years.
Because of the fury he felt, one of the three major races at the time, the werebeasts, had been reduced to a number similar to the dragons due to how atrocious they treated the humans compared to the other races.
Then again, that did not mean that the orcs and the elves were safe from his wrath, with over half of their population being wiped out due to his anger as well.
By the time his fury had subsided, over a decade had passed, causing him to fall to the ground in exhaustion.
At the same time, the races of Veldanyr were reminded once more of Vaughn's existence, his title now changing to the Deity of Ruin because of it.
Feeling immense remorse for how the humans of the new age were treated, the man recalled the Great Cataclysm, reminding himself of how useless they were against the Arbiters, even though their race were superior to the new humans in every way.
With that, it did not take long for a new idea to fester in Vaughn's mind as a plan was gradually being formulated.
For one, he was going to bring the system back, realizing at this point that removing it had given the other races a far greater advantage than actually having it.
Aside from that, he decided that he was going to continue where he left off on Project Rebirth. n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om
Though, unlike before…
He was going to make sure that the new humans had a few seeds of hope.
