Chapter 78
C78 – Assassination
Jiang Hao tumbled several times before coming to a halt.
A chorus of gasps erupted from the onlookers.
“Holy shit, a car accident!”
Good Samaritans wasted no time in dialing for emergency services.
Meanwhile, crowds of spectators gathered on both sides of the street.
“Such a shame for that young guy!”
“Hurry! Go check on the guy who got hit. How’s he doing?”
“Let’s hope he’s okay!”
……
Across the street, a middle-aged man in sportswear, donning sunglasses and a cap, watched the scene unfold, a slight smirk playing at his lips.
“Qin Ming, you may be in custody, but I’m a man of my word.”
“Now that I’ve kept my promise, it’s time to leave this place and rejoin the organization.”
This was Number Three.
But just then, Jiang Hao, who had been flung through the air, sprang up from the ground as if unscathed.
The crowd was stunned.
“Holy shit, he’s actually fine!”
From the building across the street, Number Three witnessed this too. He rose to his feet, eyes fixed on Jiang Hao with an incredulous stare.
“How can this be?”
His face twisted into a grimace of malice.
“Kid, you’re tougher than I thought!”
“It seems I’ll have to take matters into my own hands.”
With that, he turned and walked away.
Meanwhile, Jiang Hao eyed the twisted wreck of the car, his heart still racing.
Suddenly, he felt the prickle of unseen eyes on his back.
Without hesitation, he spun around to face the direction of the gaze.
There, he saw the back of a middle-aged man in sportswear and a cap, standing before a window.
Jiang Hao blinked, thinking he was mistaken, but then the traffic police arrived. Since Jiang Hao had been thrown clear, he was miraculously uninjured.
The small car’s driver wasn’t as lucky, suffering serious injuries and rushed to the hospital.
Jiang Hao decided not to press the issue and quickly made his way back.
Entering the quiet Tai’an alley, Jiang Hao was alone until a man in sportswear, hat pulled low, approached him head-on.
Jiang Hao, still rattled by the previous incident, caught sight of the man and felt a flicker of recognition, as though they had crossed paths before. But he didn’t dwell on it.
As the distance between them closed, a creeping sense of dread and anxiety welled up inside Jiang Hao. Then, in an instant, they came face to face.
They were about to pass each other when, without warning, both sprang into action. The man, donning a cap and sportswear, had somehow produced a dagger and lunged for Jiang Hao’s chest.
Instinctively, Jiang Hao grabbed the man’s wrist, diverting the blade. With his free hand balled into a fist, he delivered a thunderous punch to the man’s chest.
Number Three, caught off guard by Jiang Hao’s swift reflexes, was not only thwarted but also met with a rapid counterattack, his face etched with astonishment. Indeed, this was Number Three.
Shock aside, Number Three was quick to respond, launching a punch of his own. But he had sorely underestimated Jiang Hao.
In the face of mortal peril, Jiang Hao had summoned his full strength. Their fists collided with a resounding crack.
With a stifled grunt, shock flooded Number Three’s eyes as he was hurled backward, slamming into the wall and leaving a crater that spread like a spiderweb.
