Chapter 80
C80 – The Inexplicable Death
Suddenly, Number Three’s head tilted at an odd angle, and blood began to pour from his eyes, ears, nose, and mouth. He was lifeless.
Jiang Hao jumped in shock and quickly stepped forward.
“Hey! Hey!”
“Are you okay?”
There was no response to Jiang Hao’s questions. His face turned a shade paler.
“Damn, he’s not dead, is he?”
Mimicking what he’d seen on TV, Jiang Hao placed his finger under Number Three’s nose, now bleeding from every orifice.
But the next moment, he stumbled and ended up squatting on the ground.
“Holy… He’s really dead!”
“What do I do? What do I do?”
Panic set in for Jiang Hao.
“Should I call the police?”
“No, it’s deserted here, no cameras, no one to vouch for me!”
“I didn’t kill him, though. He was just fine a minute ago!”
Jiang Hao stared at Number Three, blood still oozing from his orifices, confusion in his eyes.
“This looks like something out of a TV show, where a secret organization trains people to die on command.”
“It’s like he heard me mention calling the cops, and then this happened!”
“Could he be from some secret organization?”
With these thoughts, Jiang Chen reached out to examine Number Three’s body.
But as soon as he touched the corpse, his body went rigid.
“Ding! Human corpse detected. Would you like to decompose it?”
Jiang Hao could hardly believe his ears.
“Damn, can a corpse even be decomposed?”
Jiang Hao looked at Number Three’s body, hesitated, then made up his mind.
“Decompose!”
He needed to dispose of the body now. The best way was to make it vanish from this world completely!
Otherwise, no matter what he did, it would only bring endless problems!
And the system’s decomposition would leave no trace behind.
“Ding! Congratulations, host, on a successful decomposition. You’ve gained the skill ‘Immunity to Poison,’ 2.1 skill points, and 2.1 experience points!”
Poison Immunity Level 1 (0/1): The bane of all toxins. With this skill, you can confidently sample a myriad of herbs from now on!
“Disintegration complete. Initiate fusion?”
As the system’s prompt echoed, the corpse under Jiang Hao’s control vanished in an instant, leaving not a single trace behind. Jiang Hao watched in disbelief, as if he were in a dream.
Yet, the gaping hole in the nearby wall stood as stark evidence that this was no dream at all.
With the disappearance of Corpse Number 3, Jiang Hao finally shook off the shackles of fear.
But the message from the system that popped into his mind made his lips involuntarily twitch.
“To hell with tasting a hundred herbs!”
The system’s snark allowed Jiang Hao’s tightly wound nerves to relax considerably.
Rolling his eyes, Jiang Hao issued his next command.
“Begin fusion.”
As the fusion process unfolded, he felt an energy surge through his body, sending a shiver down his spine, and then, nothing more.
Once the fusion was complete, Jiang Hao turned to meticulously inspect the ground for any remaining traces.
After thorough scrutiny, he quickly made his way home.
Ignoring his mother’s welcoming words, Jiang Hao beelined for his room and shut the door behind him.
It was then that he confronted the system with his burning question.
“System, why did the skill to resist all poisons emerge from decomposing a human corpse?”
Indeed, this latest decomposition had left him utterly perplexed; there was no apparent connection between a human corpse and total poison immunity.
“Ding, host, decomposing human corpses indeed does not grant immunity to all poisons!”
“In fact, the system didn’t gain anything from decomposing the human corpse. The immunity to poison was acquired from neutralizing the deadly toxins within that corpse!”
