Douluo Dalu 3: The Legend of the Dragon King

Chapter 1944: I Just Missed You

Chapter 1944: I Just Missed You

Through the efforts of Tang Wulin and his friends, Shrek Academy had risen from the ashes.

The rich life energy being released by the Eternal Tree was slowly nourishing the entire planet, and with Gu Yuena's Divine Origin realm spiritual power, she could sense that the entire planet was beginning to flourish with vitality.

The Douluo Star had been in the process of an irreversible decline, but it was now trending toward a very positive direction.

All of a sudden, the sound of door-knocking rang out, and Gu Yuena seemed to have already expected this as she said in a calm manner, "Come in."

The door was opened, and a group of people strode into the room.

They were led by none other than Di Tian, and everyone else in the group was also giving off extremely powerful auras.

There was a hint of finality shimmering in Di Tian's eyes as he made his way over to Gu Yuena before kneeling down on one knee. "My Lord."

Everyone else in the group also knelt down on one knee, while Gu Yuena continued to look out the window, seemingly paying them no heed.

Di Tian gritted his teeth before continuing, "My Lord, we've come to bid you farewell."

"Why? What are you going to do?" Gu Yuena asked as she slowly turned around.

Di Tian replied, "My Lord, I don't understand why you've refrained from striking at Tang Wulin despite the fact that you've had countless chances to do so. Perhaps you really have developed human emotions, but we can't allow the human race to continue to do as it pleases. The humans have destroyed our habitats and slaughtered our brethren, forcing us to the brink of extinction. You refuse to act against Tang Wulin, so all we can do is see through our cause on our own till the very end."

"So that means you're going to Shrek Academy to challenge him?" Gu Yuena asked.

Di Tian replied, "That's right. I really didn't think that you would develop feelings for a human, my Lord. Have you forgotten how the humans slaughtered countless brethren of ours? It's not just the dragon clan; all of the soul beasts are your people. For all these years, we've always been hoping that you would lead us on a resurgence to reclaim this world. I have no right to criticize your decision, but at the same time, I cannot stand by it. My Lord, either strike me down right here and now or allow me to make one final effort for all soul beasts. Even if this is a suicide mission, I have no regrets. Farewell, my Lord!"

Di Tian fell to both knees before kowtowing toward Gu Yuena, and all of the other Great Beasts behind him also did the same.

Meanwhile, Gu Yuena merely continued to appraise them in silence.

In the absence of a response from Gu Yuena, Di Tian rose to his feet before turning to exit the room, followed quickly by all of the other Great Beasts.

Di Tian had already urged Gu Yuena many times to kill Tang Wulin, and he had even attempted to do the job himself, only to be stopped by Gu Yuena.

Gu Yuena had told him over and over again that this was all part of the plan, and he had held onto a shred of hope this entire time, but as they witnessed Tang Wulin reach the godly level and fight alongside Gu Yuena, they finally began to fall into despair.

The closeness between Gu Yuena and Tang Wulin had erased all of their hope, but what could they do? There was no other option than to give their lives for their cause.

"Hold on." Gu Yuena's voice rang out just as Di Tian was about to exit the room.

Di Tian stopped in his tracks before turning back around. "What is it, my Lord?"

Gu Yuena replied, "Ever since I awakened in the core circle of the Great Star Dou Forest, I was destined to be an enemy of the human race. I'll admit that I did fall in love with Tang Wulin, to the point that I'm unable to control my own feelings, but never did I forget that I am a part of the Dragon God and the leader of all soul beasts. I love Tang Wulin, but we are destined to be enemies. The blood of the dragon clan flows in my veins, and I bear a mission and responsibility placed upon me by all soul beasts.

"In the instant I obtained the Dragon God's core, I could already sense that there was some type of invisible pressure existing within this world. It was constantly controlling this world, and I could only become more powerful slowly, but I didn't dare to attempt a true breakthrough as I could sense that any attempt to do so would lead to my demise. As you saw, the ruler of the abyssal plane, the Holy Lord, possessed far more power than I do now, yet he was still crushed like an ant by Tang San, and even his entire plane had been devoured.

"Under those circumstances, do you think there was any chance for me to strike down Tang Wulin?"

All of the Great Beasts faltered slightly upon hearing this.

Gu Yuena continued, "His grandfather is the planar ruler, his grandmother is the core of life of this continent, and his father is a godking; perhaps it's exactly because of all of this that he was so alluring to me. However, just as I said, there's no way we can be together; there is a rift that can't be bridged between us. He possesses the bloodline of the Golden Dragon King, but in the end, he's a human, while I'm a soul beast, and there's no way to change that. I've always been waiting for the perfect opportunity to strike, waiting for that omnipresent pressure to disappear.

"Thankfully, the Holy Lord acted as our scout, triggering everything that Tang San had set up in this world and allowing me to see this world for what it really is. Now, the Tang San is gone, while the planar ruler and the core of life are both in hibernation, so the time to strike is now."

All of the Great Beasts were astonished to hear this.

Di Tian was the first to recover from his stunned stupor, and he immediately strode over to Gu Yuena before falling to his knees and kowtowing again. "We were wrong to doubt you, my Lord."

All of the other Great Beasts also hurriedly followed suit.

Gu Yuena's gaze remained calm, but there was a hint of bitterness in her eyes as she sighed, "All of this was inevitable. You have nothing to apologize for; this is my responsibility, and it's time for me to fulfill it."

Right at this moment, a string of beeps rang out, and Gu Yuena looked down at the soul communicator on her wrist, upon which a gentle look surfaced in her eyes.

She waved a dismissive hand, and the Great Beasts hurriedly stood up before exiting the room.

Gu Yuena then answered the call as she cast her gaze toward the Eternal Tree, and asked, "What is it?"

"Nothing, really; I just missed you." A joyful voice rang out from the other end of the line.

"We met yesterday, didn't we?" Gu Yuena said with a pout.

"Gu Yue, I love you," Tang Wulin suddenly said in a genuine and passionate voice.

Tears immediately welled up in Gu Yuena's eyes, but she was able to maintain the tone of her voice as she asked, "Why do you have to say that every day?"
